Except it’s not really free. You need to subscribe to get access to this.

gaffyh2359d ago

Darksiders is awesome though, especially first one.

@Bronxs *sigh* ..... there's always that one guy who has to state the obvious and get all technical about the term "free" in combination with a subscription service..... I consider these games free because when you think about it, Sony does not have to give out at least 2 free games per month for their subscribers. They could have just done what MS did throughout the xbox360 years and just make you pay to only play online and that is it but they don't.... So whatever, it's "free" monthy games to me ;)

Elimin82359d ago

@ thunderbird86.... I respect what you're saying but if you're gonna pay, it aint FREE!

darthv722358d ago

@thunderbird... I play online on the PS3 and guess what.... I don't pay.

It's also why I don't play online on the PS4.

2358d ago
yomfweeee2358d ago

darth you're so against paying to play online that you're giving up over a $1000 worth of games that you would would get for that $40 PS Plus membership? Last year $1175 dollars worth of games.

But at least you're making some kind of a statement!!

darthv722358d ago

@yom... yes, yes i will pass up on online for the ps4. That is my SP platform. xbo is my MP platform.

dantesparda2358d ago

@Darth

Why wouldn't you pay for Plus but pay for Live? You make no sense. And historically Live has always been more expensive than Plus and given you less. Heck it still gives you less. On Plus you get 6-8 games and usually at 3 or 4 of those are playable on the PS4 while Live only gives you 4. Then again, you NEVER make sense. And dont give me this fanboy bullsh't that Live is better then PSN, cause its not, thats just fanboy bullsh't. As a matter of fact I usually get more lag on Live and i get slower and more fluctuating download speeds on Live.

darthv722358d ago (Edited 2358d ago )

@dante "Why wouldn't you pay for Plus but pay for Live? You make no sense."

Actually it makes perfect sense. I pay for what i want because it is my choice. I have been a long time gold member and now my kids use the same gold service with their own accounts (one gold account can work for the rest of the family). live has the games that i want to play online such as halo, gears, forza... the usual ones that most people criticize the system for having.

On the Ps3 i played my share of killzone, resistance and MAG but I wasnt interested in Plus when it came out because it was mainly a discount service. sure they offered you games for being a member and i was for a year. got games like the first darksiders, castle of illusion remake, mirrors edge (to name a few) but when my subscription lapsed I chose not to renew it because I could still play the online portion of those games just fine without it. sure i would miss out on the giveaway games but... so what.

PS4 comes out and now its mandatory to pay to play online... so while i may have games that offer online multiplayer (like kof and sfv) I only play the offline portion. I plan on getting GTS now that they have said they will expand the offline side of things and now SFV should be getting an arcade mode for offline play as well. I'm okay with not paying for + and paying for live. I play more multiplayer on live because that is where my friends play.

Can that be an acceptable reason to you or others who dont agree? Oh yeah, I also like how with live you get to keep the free games on the 360 if you cancel your sub. With Plus... they all stopped loading (except mirrors edge and i didnt pay for that one) so i deleted them from the hdd.

Sonic_Vs_Mario2358d ago

Bronxs15
Xbox 360 games with gold are yours to keep forever without a subscription that's backwards compatible on Xbox One. It's Free! Unlike PlayStation Plus

PygmelionHunter2358d ago

@Army_of_Darkness

Except PS+ started as a premium service that offered online storage, game trials AND an Instant game collection, among other goodies.

So no matter how you spin it, Bronxs15's statement is right. You ARE paying paying for those games.

If anything, online play should be considered that so called "free bonus" because it was added later on. See? Anyone can spin if approaching the topic incorrectly.

Thank God for PC online gaming still being free, like they all should be, and without moronic shills defending greedy business practices just to damage control their precious plastic-producing companies...

The 10th Rider2359d ago

Darksiders is pretty great, but it's been so cheap elsewhere anyone who doesn't own it probably isn't interested.

sampsonon2359d ago

never played it so I'll give it a go. hey, it's free so why not.

manabyte772359d ago

That hasn’t stopped people from begging for Knack, The Order 1886, and Killzone. They’re dirt cheap, especially over the holidays, yet people still beg for them.

The 10th Rider2358d ago

@manabyte77,

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Darksiders 2 has been available on Humblebundle in bundles on PC, PS3, Wii U, and PS4. It doesn't get much cheaper than Humblebundle.

IamTylerDurden12358d ago

Darksiders 2 was only available in the $15 tier. Don't exaggerate.

masterfox2358d ago

If you know what kind of game Darksiders II is you wouldn't say that. ;)

joab7772358d ago

I’ve been wanting a reason to play DS2. Now I have one. This is great for me!

Zabatsu2358d ago

Eh, I guess I'll try Darksiders 2.

KillZallthebeast2358d ago

Lol I bought it a few years ago never opened it and gave it away. I'm less busy now so this isn't too bad of a month for me at least

2358d ago
InMyOpinion2358d ago

You should. It's really really good. Much better than the first one and one of my favourite games from last gen.

ocelot072359d ago

Got Darksiders 2 in the PlayStation Humble Bundle for $4 along with Darksiders 1 and a few other titles. Poor this month.

IamTylerDurden12358d ago

Umm Darksiders 2 was only available in the $15 tier. So i'm not sure where u get $4.

Proof... https://www.destructoid.com...

ocelot072358d ago

It was 6 or 7 months forgive me if I couldn't remember the exact price. Plus I got mixed up with the PlayStation 2K bundle. I got that was and only paid about $4 and got the likes of Evolve and Xcom ect. Still $15 for both Darksiders on PS4 and PS3 and a few other games was pretty good.

However, My comment still stands imo opinion I think this is a poor month compared to the last few months and probably on par with last months. Just because I think it's poor this month does not mean others will think it is. Darksiders is an ok game and God of war fans will probably enjoy it.

They gotta do better on the premium side for sure. Where are any of those jrpgs from the ps1 Era. Come on Sony.

jznrpg2h ago

Most of the Sony JRPGS have been released. Square has a ton that could be ported over but they would need Squares involvement.

VenomUK2h ago

Crime Boss! I know it hasn't reviewed well but I love the eighties action movie vibe of the trailer but didn't want to risk any money on it so this is a great way for me to play it.

outsider16242h ago

Looking at this list, i gotta ask what is even the point of premium?

raWfodog2h ago

I'm good with just my PS+ Essential

Abnor_Mal1h ago

G-Police is a game I have fond memories of and will definitely download to replay. I remember controlling your helicopter was a bit difficult and would make my hand cramp having to press all the shoulder buttons to go up and down and I think yaw left and right.

The next game they should add to Classics is Colony Wars, and I wouldn’t mind replaying Nightmare Creatures. I’d also like to replay Black, PSI Ope: The Mindgate Conspiracy.

If gamepass is so pointless and unprofitable why did PS shamelessly copy it with Plus extra?

shinoff21833h ago

Psnow was out well before gamepass. To boot most people talking sht about gamepass are talking day 1 releases. That and the fact that Xbox players as a whole aren't buying games like they should be. It's day 1 releases, Sony doesn't do that so you can't compare.

InUrFoxHole3h ago

Aren't buying games like they should be? That's the most company statement I've ever read.

thesoftware7302h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Shin,
While they do talk shit about every aspect of everything MS, including game pass, you just minimized it.

The first claim used to be that "It's all old games" because MS doesn't make new games. I then sit and watch people celebrate games that have been on GP for months/years, being celebrated on PS Plus.

Then when plenty of new good games were hitting regularly, the complaint changed to, the games suck, and the quality of them is bad because of GP.

When that well ran dry, it moved to GP, which is unsustainable and hurting developers.

Then, when MS said it had been making a profit, the goalpost moved again to ownership of games, and GP is driving killing off physical media.

In the meantime, Sony has produced a Digital Playstation and created a robust sub-service that they revamped after seeing the success of GP and admitting their service would not catch up to GP(Sony said it, not me). They also released some games on day 1 in the service. Both companies are doing very similar things, but the less popular brand generally receives the brunt of the negativity.

jznrpg1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

@InUrFoxHole this discussion has been stated many times on this site. Buying games is good for the industry for many reasons, keeps more studios open and helps them to be profitable which they need to be to stay open, it gives us a say in what games we want to play and continue to see and gives us the ability to demand quality with our wallets. If the majority rented , games will end up having lesser quality or be short or both , we will get less games, higher rental prices and studios getting shut down or downsized, more games with Micro-transactions and battle passes to help pay for the lack of people buying the game.
Gaming is a hobby that needs money to stay healthy and the best way to do that is to buy your favorite games and support your favorite studios. I don’t buy all games full price but I do for my favorite studios and favorite types of games because I want more of them in the future. I do buy some games on sale 40-20$ and occasionally cheaper than that but even that is better than a rental.

ChasterMies2h ago

“shamelessly”

These are giant corporations, not Renaissance painters.

MrNinosan2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Maybe collect some braincells before calling yourself TheProfessional.

GamePass copied PSNow, not the other way around.
PSNow later changed name to PS+ Extra and Premium.
What makes GamePass unprofitable is because day 1 games makes gamers stop buying games and the amount of subscribers is too low to make up for it.

You don't need a lot of math knowledge to figure the rest out.

S2Killinit2h ago

Didn’t PSPlus do it first and MS copied. I kind of remember it this way… your comment didn’t age well.

And you seem to be missing the point.

VersusDMC2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

My memory is that playstation started it with the instant game collection which is pretty much what the Monthly games on PS essential is now.

PS now was cloud only and on demand (pay for by hour or day) with no subscription.

MS did the games with gold and gamepass as an awnser to the instant
game collection.

Then PSNow changed to subscription and native downloads(not cloud) like gamepass.

I'm of the mind that gamepass is another version of the instant game collection but i could see people seeing gamepass as the first one to do it in that particular way.

I'm going on memory too so not comited to this timeline.

Eonjay2h ago

Its about Day 1 releases. They don't put game in there day one because they want to get their money back before they give it away for 'free'. This is what the debate boils down to. The reason day one becomes an issues is because in order to make money back on games costing 200+ million to make you would need to either have Plus cost more a month or you would have to have many more subscribers (which is preferable to these companies). Activision was spending somewhere in the range of 4 billion a year to produce yearly COD games. The profit they made a year came in around 1 billion. If the revenue from GP has to also pay for the production cost of COD, it would take many, many decades to see a return on the purchase. That is the issue.

RNTody1h ago

LOLOLOL Comparing a supplementary offering like PS Extra that you don't need to literally the entire point of Xbox and their primary selling point with day one releases of all their main titles. Well done mate for the false equivalence.

Man.... Premium has been a massive letdown but this is the only month they don't have a single thing for me. Oh well. I've gotten my money's worth so far and still need to finish up Rebirth and Rise of the Ronin then I'll hop back in to Relink and Helldivers after that.

Petebloodyonion1h ago

RDR2 is a win for Sony and Crime boss is a good fit to help promote a struggling game
but we're far from what was removed this month (including Horizon Zero Dawn)
https://www.pushsquare.com/...

crazyCoconuts43m ago

Yeah I was hoping burning shores would have been added now that it's a year old vs. the base game being removed.
I wouldn't be surprised if both MS and PS continue to either walk back the quality of games in the sub services or increase the price, since it's now clearer to them how cannibalistic these services are
