With Wolfenstein: The New Order came something that almost every other shooter lacks: the power of character. While many shooters do come with single player campaigns, they remain short, designed as more of a training tool for the multiplayer to come, giving the player an array of different armaments to play with and enough features that everything is taught through the narrative.
Also added this month: The Evil Within, Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, Paradise Killer, Dishonored: Definitive Edition.
Riders republic. Nice. I never bought it but played beta twice. Good fun openworld game.
I kept getting caught up in other games so I never got around to buying Doom Eternal. If it's good I'll still buy it so i can keep it. The reboot was awesome, i think i played through it about 5 times, and platinumed it.
A whole lotta Bethesda titles in this lineup
Sackboy also got included as well despite already being as Essential title
Spiderman is in the titles leaving Extra in May. Guess 1st party titles aren't guaranteed to stay
Great Month, own most of them but looking fwd to trying monstor boy, nice sto have EW in my collection now and some wolfeinstein.
Despite lacking Call of Duty, the Nintendo Switch has many great shooters to replace it. Here are some of the best shooters on Switch.
Anyone else have a small but noticeable delay in aiming on Borderlands 2? Anytime I move the aiming reticle, there is maybe a quarter of a second (250ms) delay before it moves. Happens in both Handheld and Docked.
I haven’t bought one shooter for Switch. It’s just to weak to play them good enough. I really don’t play my Switch at all anymore. Going to sell them and wait for Switch 2.
BLG writes, "There can be only one best Wolfenstein game. Since the franchise’s debut in 1981, the Wolfenstein series has graced our gaming platforms for over forty years. It’s hard to believe, but it’s true! In honor of that legacy, we’re going to list some of the best Wolfenstein games and the worst. That’s right: it’s the Wolfenstein games ranked."
Scheiße! Nein.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein is the best in the series. After that:
New Order
New Colossus
Old Blood
I really wish they'd remake Return to Castle Wolfenstein from the ground up. Easily the best of them all.
"Emphasis on Character is Exactly What Shooters Need" <---Oh look someone discovered an important element of a single player game!! :O..... really this is nothing new, memorable FPS are thanks to is main characters and other elements, take for example, Gordon Freeman even thou he doesn't talk one damn bit we know is Freeman who we are playing with, Nathan Hale Resistance Fall of Men, Master Chief Halo.,your main character in Fallout games, not only the main character you are playing with but also the enemy you go against it can make a great Single game, Helghast, Chimera, to name a few.
Single Player FPS games aren't coming that much is not because those won't sell, is because we don't have that much of game developers that are creative enough to create a memorable Single player experience, imo is a lot more easier for a game developer to create a mindless MP FPS than create a well structured driven story FPS, and that's again because the lack of being creative, I mean in a mp FPS your main premise is respawn, kill, get killed, respawn, kill, get killed, respawn, kill, get killed, respawn, kill, get killed, respawn, kill, get killed, and that's it!.
Eh, in concept sure (when is it not?), but this game failed at it pretty hard on a lot of occasions. Certainly not a game I'd use as an example. The New Order is a MUCH better example if we're using Wolfenstein.
I am not going to 100 % agree. I do think games often benefit from better character development. But story and character development don’t need to be heavy. Bethesda Doom 2016, has very light story, but you could find extra lore within the game. Halo 4, had a character focused story that worked well, while other shooters have event focused story. Bioshock was also story heavy shooter like wolfenstein, but it had few cutscenes. The worse story to me is bad story, with lots of character development and too many cutscenes. I need to get around to playing Wolfenstien.
I greatly prefer the character focused storylines. Never understood why some people think it's bad, and criticize games that do it, calling them "cinematic", as if that's a bad thing. There seems to be this false dichotomy that you have to choose between an engaging storyline and great gameplay, I don't see why we can't have both.
I'll take a solid narrative and well written characters whenever someone wishes to offer them in their title. I don't feel it necessary for almost any genre, as long as the gameplay holds up and keeps me interested, on its own, throughout.
