Star Wars Battlefront 2 Review: "Entertaining multiplayer, Unfulfilling Campaign" - GamesRadar

A very strong multiplayer offering tarnished by overly complicated character progression, and a lavish, beautiful story campaign lacking in substance or subtlety.

Yeah, with no criticism of MT's whatsoever, I hardly consider this a balanced review. Another, no thank you.

Becuzisaid2763d ago

Because this reviewer is required to take your stance on the issue? Give me a break. I'm not a fan of loot boxes, but I don't plan on buying any. Pretty easy system to ignore and not get bent out of shape about.

Many-hat52763d ago (Edited 2763d ago )

No individual needs take my stance on MT's. My point, is this is journalism. I'm sure you wouldn't deny there has been a backlash from fans regarding MT's in this game. For a journalist to ignore those concerns in his appraisal of the game seems rather odd to me, don't you think? Almost like he has an incentive not to mention them. If you choose to purchase, and you find that you can ignore the MT's, I'm happy for you. And hope you enjoy the game. I'm not in conflict with my fellow gamers, regardless of their views. For me, this isn't just about EA, or this game. It's about gaming in general. If you as an individual think the mobile business model for games is okay, then you should have no concerns, because that is where we are heading with mainstream gaming, imo. And that, is my concern. Enjoy your game, Becuzisaid.

Hanilugtehul2763d ago

the game is built around loot boxes but it is easy to ignore? i dont think you understand the problem, but hey go ahead and throw some money in eas black hole of greed.

Knushwood Butt2763d ago (Edited 2763d ago )

'The problem is that everything in Star Wars Battlefront 2’s multiplayer is tied to the opening of random crates, and while you can simply unlock the Star Cards you want with Crafting Points… they’re not as easy to acquire as Credits, which are used to grab those loot boxes. Oh, and if you want to pay real money for crates, then you fork-out for Crystals, which is the game’s third type of currency. It’s a real, real mess'

Does that not cover it?

Omnislashver362763d ago (Edited 2763d ago )

When this is basically their new controller, I'd say it belongs in the review.

I think all the grandstanding on the micro transactions issue is misguided. Just because people can advance quicker in the game doesn't mean they will, and even some people do get a head start it won't be long before most avid players catch up. I have over a million credits just sitting in SWBF 1 with nothing left to buy and I have no doubt the same thing will happen here.

Many-hat52763d ago

jronj,
If you find that this game does encourage players to spend real money in a way that's unethical, I'm sure you will let us know. Enjoy your game.

A Star Wars Battlefront 3 Has the Weight of a Galaxy on Its Shoulders

If a Star Wars Battlefront 3 was born of the series' recent hype, it would hopefully lean on every bit of Star Wars lore and iconography possible.

I’d love to see Battlefront 1 & 2 on the Switch 2

ZeekQuattro13d ago

Tried to hop back in after having not played in years but EA was being weird so I ended up not bothering even though they acknowledged my account. 🤷‍♂️

anast13d ago

It's has the highest peak in the history of this release. lol

Goodguy0113d ago

Wierd as battlefront 1+2 had low hype releases and didn't have much people really talk about these games.
With the state of fps multiplayer games nowadays, that is and with an overabundance of: battle royale, hero, extraction, and survival shooters. Maybe everyone is getting tired and sick of these genres? Will we finally get traditional pvp shooters that isn't just cod back?

I for one am wishing traditional comes back big...

A lot of those games fail. Companies are forcing it through because they people to continuously buy microtransactions. Also they don't need to focus on any artistic elements — just throw some garbage out there and make money.

Redemption-6476d ago

No actually a lot of video games fail. For example, there are thousands of games that get released every year, most small and indie games. A significant portion of indie games, estimated to be around 70-96%, are considered financial failures, failing to generate enough revenue to be considered successful. A significant portion of indie games are single-player. I don't see any media outlets writing about these failed games. But let 1 or 2 live service games fail and we will be inundated with articles, post, and videos about failing live service/AAA games.

It's just live service games that the most attention, nothing more. Point is very simple, live service games make more money than single player games and more people play them. Most companies will follow that

MDTunkown76d ago

You do realise it’s easier to count successful live service/AAA games than failed ?

Redemption-6476d ago

@MDTunkown

A significant majority of video games, be it live service or single player games fail. It is just easier to talk about failed live service/AAA games than 1000 failed indie games that some people pretend to care about.

IAMRealHooman76d ago

I mean, how many asset flip simulators exist, and are going to?
How many Synty, bare bones zombie survival games are getting churned out?
How many farm sims?
it'd be a 24/7 ticker of shit games not making profit or failing, games nobody was gonna buy to begin with.
so yeah the news is on AAA games that cost millions, with 100 person dev teams.

Redemption-6476d ago

The news is on AAA games, while constantly crying about wanting more indies, but have 0 desire to support the thousands of indies out there. Similar to how people constantly cry about there being too many remakes or sequels and wanting more original movies, but never show up to support those original movies.

Just as there are many assets flipped games, there are also good/unique indie games that people who claim they want more of ignore.

IAMRealHooman76d ago

We are just gonna have to reverse course as a community.
Go back to taking a gamble, and word of mouth from friends and not "influencers".

Wander stop looks intriguing, but 100k people watched Dr.disrepect say its looks mid so now they have to think it looks mid, and hype up he next COD or BR, extraction hero, survival game.

JEECE75d ago

@IAMRealHooman

The influencer thing is frustrating. I get that people have limited time and money and can't try everything, so to a certain degree you have to look at other people's opinions on things to decide how to spend your time and money. But there is definitely a line between that and just parroting one or two particular influencers' opinions about everything, and a lot of people have unfortunately crossed that line in recent years.

On certain games you can't even really talk to people about them because they just copy/paste an influencer's bullet point opinions on it, so you aren't even really talking to them about the game, because they haven't played it, they just parrot opinions.
