DOOM for Nintendo Switch Review - DOOMed to Mediocrity? [Wccftech]

DOOM on Nintendo Switch runs a fantastically fun, playable version of our favorite console shooter, but it can’t be denied that optimizations and the lower framerate make for a less pretty, slightly rougher version of the game. Despite that, if you want a handheld version of DOOM, I still can’t help but recommend it. It plays well for the most part and is still loads of fun and a refreshing experience, even a year and a half later.

DOOM on a handheld is a great prospect, very impressive full console games of last year are now today's portable games.

UKRsoldja2361d ago (Edited 2361d ago )

Impressive? Not really. It's 2.2 times less resolution and 2 times less framerate than the other versions, plus the detail is set even lower. Near 5 times less pixels per second than X1/ps4. When you compromise that much, this game could run on the Gameboy Adavance..

Tazzy2361d ago

Lmao you know nothing about technology it looks impressive Xbox One and PS4 don't look that much better than the Switch version PC blows them all away. As far as Gameboy Advance doing it again learn about technology instead of going out and making yourself look foolish heres a comparison for all consoles and PC.

Foraoise2361d ago (Edited 2361d ago )

stop trolling, UKRsoldja. It's impressive as fuck.

Also, it would never run on the gameboy advance. Saying shit like, "Oh any game can run on any console if it's watered down enough" is bullshit and you sound like an ignorant asshole.

Having to even compare DOOM Switch to the other versions is delusional... everyone knows what they're buying.

Bummer, I'll stick with PC

Alexious2361d ago

PC is definitely the best version

Ikenda2361d ago

Why no one is saying that this is the best (well, and only) portable version of Doom out there? That's a number 1 spot, isn't. Anyway Doom looks amazing on the Switch, a handheld console (it feels that this reminder is needed constantly) , I'll totally double dipp and play arcade on the train to work.

ShawnardAgain2361d ago

Technically laptops are, just saying.

UKRsoldja2361d ago

Shh, let him have his delusion..

Shiken2361d ago

Show me a 300 dollar laptop that you can casually play as a handheld that can run DOOM, and then we will talk.

Thunder_G0d_Bane2361d ago

A laptop? Lool what you take a mouse with you on the train? Or a Xbox one controller? Or are you using the mouse pad to aim? Lool incredibly cumbersome compared to the portability of the Switch.

A laptop is not even comparable especially at the price of £279.

Can't imagine playing Doom at 30fps...

ctrlxthroat2361d ago

It's really not bad. Yes, you get spoiled at 60 fps, but 30 is far from bad. If you have a Switch, go for it!

Samus is on the list. Personally I'd swap the Space Marines with either Grey Fox from MGS or the COG armor from Gears of War.

NecrumOddBoy351d ago

You’re right. Hiding at the bottom so I missed it

REDGUM351d ago

There's no Dead Space listed in here, WTF!

Sciurus_vulgaris350d ago (Edited 350d ago )

I’d take the Space Marine power armour off the list due to it not originating in a video game.

10 Video Game Sequels That Saved Their Franchise

Video game sequels like Assassin's Creed Origins, Doom (2016), and Fire Emblem Awakening were just what these franchises needed to be revitalized.

Immagaiden358d ago

Lmao what’s Halo Infinite doing on this list?

Who would ever say Halo Infinite saved the Halo franchise

SullysCigar357d ago

Thought the same - very bizarre!

RE7 though... my God, what a shift over RE6! That franchise was definitely going in the wrong direction, so RE7 was a welcome return to form.

ModsDoBetter357d ago

Resi 6 was and still is the worst entry in the series.
7 was a great turnaround, despite people’s concerned about the switch to FP perspective.

DMC5 definitely helped the franchise after the whole DmC debacle. Whilst it was a decent action game, it was a far cry from the series and the characters we knew.

AC Origins is my favourite in the entire AC series. Despite the switch to a more RPG style of gameplay - the setting, soundtrack, length, etc were all amazing. sadly followed up by the ridiculously long and “more of the same” Odsyssey.

I don’t feel it’s fair to say the franchise slipped with Doom 3, Doom 3 was incredibly atmospheric and took the game in a different direction but there’s no denying Doom (2016) was sensational.

Halo 4 & 5 were disappointing but Halo Infinite definitely didn’t save the franchise? What?

TheEnigma313357d ago (Edited 357d ago )

I'm going to have to go with SMB 3. I was around when SMB 2 first came out and people hated it. 3 is still arguably the best mario game created.

HellspawnPR1981357d ago

"Halo Infinite"? Worse Halo ever. Whoever made this list just lost all credibility.

Hofstaderman357d ago

In future lists of a similar nature I have a suspicion Final Fantasy XVI will feature.

I don't understand the hate Doom 3 got, but the original has to be tops for me too.
