Strategy Informer: Saint's Row 2 Interview

Strategy Informer writes: "Strategy Informer met up with Lead Designer Scott Phillips and Lead Producer Greg Donovan from Volition for some extended hands-on time with Saints Row 2 and a nice chat about hot dog suits, sewage and laughing your ass off. And all with absolutely no bling in sight.

Strategy Informer: GTA IV's your obvious competitor, even though the games are poles apart. We were going to ask how you've managed to differentiate Saints Row 2 from Rockstar's game, but you've already demonstrated that by showing how anarchic you've made SR 2.

Greg Donovan Lead Producer: We had no way of knowing. Those guys weren't going to tell us, and frankly I think it was better we didn't know. It was better for us to just move ahead and not worry about it. We knew it was coming out and well, it's hard for me to figure out why we're compared to them (GTA IV) – there're a number of open-world games out. I think it's just because San Andreas and Saints Row were urban environment games and I think that's it. I think this one (Saints Row 2) is the one that will really prove that it is not a clone. Thematically and stylistically, the way you play the game, the pacing - it's all completely different. And I think the end result is better for players. Open world is a genre; it's not the 'GTA' genre. I'm not disparaging their game - I actually think it's quite good."

You know usually when someone says "you may have missed" it's games that were lesser known, hidden gems, underrated games. These are all super high profile games that sold extremely well.

FPS_D3TH916d ago (Edited 916d ago )

You know the 2000s is 20 years ago too? Maybe, just maybe this wasn’t an article targeted to 30+ gamers? Still says at the very beginning of the title “THE BEST GAMES you may have missed”. Regardless of how well they sold there’s tons of gamers who haven’t touched these older well known games lol.

Welshy916d ago (Edited 916d ago )

It's games you "may have missed", insinuating you were around and gaming in the 2000's and were there to miss them. If it was aimed at everyone else then they missed literally everything, not just the top games.

The original commenter is right, this is a badly written article at best pointless at worst.

Crows90916d ago

Besides only being able to miss it if you were around during that time..if your point stands then this is a horrible list. Tons of better games people may have missed

I would like the original max payne remade in a new engine with ray tracing. 😊

FPS_D3TH916d ago

Remedy games already working on that and I’m so stoked for it

XxINFERNUSxX916d ago

Oh yeah thanks for reminding me I totally forgot they were doing it. Also what the hell happened to Kingpin: Reloaded? On Steam coming soon and nohting from the dev.

MadLad916d ago

Yeah, I was just going to say. It's interesting seeing them back behind the series. Max Payne 3 was amazing, but then Rockstar just sat on the IP.
Well, they sit on virtually anything that isn't GTA and Red Dead now.

porkChop916d ago

What is this list? These are all hugely popular games. I was expecting games like Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, Advent Rising, Arx Fatalis, etc.

FPS_D3TH916d ago

the title didn’t say lesser known titles from the 2000s. This is 20 years ago now lol. Big assumption this list was made for older gamers.

Dirty_Lemons915d ago

That makes me feel so old.

Inverno916d ago

I've only played 3 on that list. Part of me feels bad about how little I used all the consoles I've owned as a kid. One bright side is, there's over 30 years of games to experience for the first time.

Games with Gold is a constant joke. They should really merge it with GamePass.

CrimsonIdol1827d ago

I mean, it IS merged with Game pass. you get game pass you get games with gold.

Monster_Tard1827d ago

No GWG aren't included with Game Pass, unless it's Game Pass Ultimate.

CrimsonIdol1827d ago

Ah my mistake, I have ultimate. But now that you mention it I do remember them getting me with the upsell, seemed a bit silly not to spend the couple bucks extra for Xbox live (and I guess also games with gold).

darthv721827d ago

Dunk Lords has a sort of NBA Jam vibe to it so that might be fun. I like rally racers but much prefer the Sega type (arcade style) over the more realistic ones. So that may be a pass. I already have SR2 on disc so I dont need that one. Juju looks cute in a DKC/Rayman sort of way so that might be worth a try. Overall though... its pretty bland month.

RgR1827d ago

Not sure who the target audience for this month was but it aint me.

DragonWarrior191827d ago

Hmmm well Saints Row 2 is something.

ps3rider1827d ago

Honestly the gold term here was a bad choice .. when it says gold it give impress there is silver and bronze before.

PS+ name is better
