Divinity Original Sin II Review - The best RPG of the decade - Kitsuga

Divinity Original Sin II is an epic RPG from Larian studios. A story in 4 acts, the game masters all of the RPG basics, and more a solid 5/5

I'm sure it's a great game, but that's a bold statement.

It is a great game. I think it is the best game this year. Best RPG this decade? No. Best CRPG. Probably.

As someone who's already put about 40 hours into it, I say I agree with the statement. The freedom and choice allowed to the player with every single thing you do or say in this game is amazing. A lot of games say your choices matter, or allow you to play good or evil and neither matters, but this games allows you to feel the weight of your choice both big and small.

Not to mention the writing, even choosing an undead character, you get tons and tons of unique dialogue that you think would be over looked, but nope, every other line i'm reminded i'm undead, from drinking with a lady and it going though my body, to shaking hands with a stranger and them reacting to my bony hands.

Also the combat, it's turn based but it's so satisfying when you level up your team enough to wipe out the enemy or overcome a great fight. The death animations help a lot to, seeing an enemy get knocked off their feet when they die, or broken when frozen, burnt to a crisp in fire, or electrocuted or worst never gets old.

I understand that because it's not an action RPG, people may overlook it but it cannot be understated how fantastic this game gets everything it sets out to do right, from combat, to writing, to choice, and then some. Heck you can even play it online with friends or play dungeons and dragons style.

Can't forget the 6 different origin stories, with characters all with their own motives and unique dialogue/storylines both when you play as them, or travel alongside them.

I think the only game that stands close to this one imo is Witcher 3.

Yeah, I have over 100 hours. It is incredible game. The thing that stands out to me is the amount of voice acting and how well it is done. Probably the best voice acting in a game I’ve ever heard.

I’m not ready to crown it best of the decade, but I agree with just about everything you said.

Jaypi032766d ago

@Razzer I can respect that. To each their own at the end of the day. I do love the voice acting, especially compared to part 1, i'm glad they went with a more professional team of voice actors.

Also according to steam I have 173, the 40 was for my current campaign.

I still have to play the first.

Razzer2766d ago

Me either. lol. But I’m definitely going back to it when I finish this one.

Bladesfist2765d ago

I played the first when this came out and have now moved on to the second game. It's also really good and I found it a bit easier to get into than the new one as the new one has more mechanics in the combat system which can make it a bit demanding when you first start. The games are a good challenge on the default difficulty so go in expecting to die and just try and learn from your mistakes or try go somewhere else if it gets too hard.

Fist4achin2766d ago

Im itching to try this, but i am a weirdo and have to play the first before i try this one. Thats just me though...

phoenixwing2766d ago

The first is pretty good too

I'm glad CRPGs are making a big comeback, but getting the proper light shined upon them.

Here are five top deals you may have missed from the Steam Spring Sale

Jack writes: "The Spring Sale is currently taking place, spanning from March 14th until March 21st. Some of the most popular games on the market are having their price slashed and we’ve hand-picked a few."

These kinds of lists are often terrible for me, mainly because I either already have the games, or I'm just not interested in some of them. Great for people new to PC games or people who haven't kept up with game releases.

phoenixwing415d ago (Edited 415d ago )

I'm too poor these days to buy every game like I used to. I quit my job because it was too exploitive. So until I find a new one I'll be enjoying my immense backlog lol

FinalFantasyFanatic414d ago

Mine's become very exploitative too, sick and tired of doing the work of 3 or 4 people, failing and getting stressed out while the company makes record profits every year. I can't go without work, but I'm hanging on until I can find something else, sometimes it sucks living in a rural/regional town.

@finalfantasyfanatic
Yeah I'm lucky that I can go without work for awhile. Otherwise I would have just had to bear it. Hang in there. One important thing is to always be looking for a job somewhere else on the side if you're even a little bit unsatisfied.
