Yeah it seems WB don't get it

They had a great game with Shadow of Mordor and for the sequel they add all these awful things. When a company adds online features FOR this kind of shit and Microtransactions then you know it's been done the wrong way. Online should be done if it feels right and fits in...not for money purposes so if it doesn't fit the game, which it bloody well doesn't then don't do it.

Shadow of War could be a good game if you get past all this crap but it could have been better if resources went into it as a single player only game.

I hate to say it but they need to be taught a lesson...I hope this game does shit in sales but since the reviews will completely ignore any of this and will most likely be "bought" into WB little scams, scared to p*** them off it'll probably help the game do really well. If people can be suckered into Destiny 1.5 then anything is possible.

Krysis2788d ago

You know you're toxic right.. If people spend their money on a game like Destiny 2 and enjoy it then how are they being suckered I see your opinions on here day in and day out and if a game does not fall within your line of thinking then it's just trash. I bought Destiny 2 and I'm having a lot of fun as are about 15 different people on my friends list with that being said if that makes me a sucker than whatever but it's better than being an insolent child.

fiveby92788d ago

Have to disagree with you on Destiny. D2 is a good game. Better than D1 so far.If D2 is for suckers then just about every sequel game you must feel the same way. Gears, Forza, EA Sports games, etc. They are all iterative games. Now maybe you didn't like D1 and that's fine, but I am doubtful you have even played D2 let alone it's end game content.

However, I do partially agree with you on Shadow of War. The MT strategy is clearly tainting the game. What was once a highly anticipated game is now not even on my radar screen. Maybe I'll wait and see what word on the street is long after it is released. Day 1 though? Not at this point if ever.

Well, I remember there was a lot of hype for the game when it was first announced, but now every time there's an article for it somewhere it seems to be met with a "meh" feeling.

On top of all the microtransactions and BS that's ticking off gamers, they've got way outside of Tolkien lore and most people that are fans of Tolkien's work outside of the movies are pretty ticked off at that too. Overall it looks like they've managed to kill a lot of the hype for the game, which is crazy considering how successful they were with the first game.

Goldby2788d ago

@fiveby9

You r right. Diablo 2 is a great game.
On another note. D2 will always be diablo 2 and never destiny 2

antz11042788d ago

Here we go with the Destiny hate. Lol once again you completely sound like you have no idea what you're talking about.

thekhurg2787d ago

You still don't understand destiny. It's so funny.

FITSniper2787d ago

Destiny 2 is quite fun. Yes you can rush through everything and be done in a few days. Same goes for tons of games that many think are good. But D2 has more to do than D1 and D1 was still fun to play regardless. And not all of us can play 12 hours a day. I haven't even done all the Strikes yet, haven't attempted the Nightfall, haven't done anywhere near all the Adventures and Lost Sectors, the other missions, etc. Still need to gear up too.

Yep. Like I said before I'll wait until the complete edition goes on sale. Not like there is going to be shortage of great games any time soon.

morganfell2788d ago (Edited 2788d ago )

Remember how everyone blew up about microstransactions in the game only to realize they were wrong? You would think people would wait before they start throwing themselves off a cliff. I have the Mithril Edition Preordered and am glad I do. A lot of this BS sounds more like something from competing game *cough* Assassins Creed

"Thankfully, everything can still be earned in-game without dropping a dime on a micropayment"

"Do you have to buy Gold?"

"No. Gold is awarded in small amounts at specific milestones and for participating in community challenges. It can also be purchased through the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store and by adding funds to your Steam Wallet using real money. Everything a player can buy with Gold can also be earned in the game over time for free, but Gold gives players the option to acquire these items faster. No Gold purchases are necessary to enjoy the complete game experience."

"Gold does not give you any advantage over other players. A player who invests enough time can progress the same amount and have access to the same content as a player who purchases Gold. Gold is not required to progress or advance in the game at all."

"And finally, will loot chests contain special items that you can only acquire by purchasing Gold? "

"No, all of the aforementioned items can be earned playing through the game. Gold merely allows you to get your hands on them immediately."

morganfell2788d ago

Its people crying because someone against whom they cannot play, is in their Single Player game half way around the world and those far away people decide to take a paid shortcut rather than grinding and these people are losing their minds. Ridiculous and utterly childlike.

The 10th Rider2788d ago

@morganfell,

People are upset because that type of thing can effect the entire design of the game. Even in games with online microtransactions you can typically earn things by playing the game. Does that mean it's an effective way of doing things? No, it doesn't. Oftentimes the amount of grinding you have to do to earn the stuff is ridiculous. The publisher is going to push the developers to make the rewards difficult to earn so that people are more likely to spend money to get the things they want.

No Way2788d ago

I don't believe for a second that the two players will progress at the same speed. Why need gold then? Gold will help to move faster. Obviously you will advance much faster, if you pay for it. A given, I guess. But, I highly doubt that they didn't slow the progression for the "over time for free" player, to incentivize them in buying gold.. let's be real, morganfell.

showtimefolks2788d ago

Morgan

One thing you fail to understand is the grind of the game will be that much more because they much rather people say screw this it's taking too long and simply spend money

When gamers defend MT in games with a leveling system that requires grinding they totally forgot the fact developers can make the game in sense where something which use to take 30 minutes to achieve most may take 45 to 50 and over the long haul in a lengthy game that extra grind time adds up

Dark_Overlord2787d ago

The reason I'm against it is due to people randomly being able to attack your army (I hope this can be switched off), and you lose the units (from what I can gather), what's to stop one of these 'whales' non stop buying gold for high level units then essentially ruining everyone else's SP experience due to them invading and destroying their armies? That's my huge issue with this crap. :)

morganfell2787d ago (Edited 2787d ago )

"That's my huge issue with this crap"

Are you are saying you have a huge issue with an issue you do not even know is an issue?

To everyone already caterwauling, you had better hope the game is as bad as you say. I won't forget this post. Personally I do not think Warner Bros are going to shoot themselves in the franchise foot and wreck a game that is just getting its first big expectation legs - it was an under dog first go round - for the sake of some DLC money. When the game turns out to be great, lets see how many people can ignore it, how many saying they bought it, and how many picked it up and refused to tell anyone - really love those types.

And as I said, history. History shows people criticizing this game having to continually back peddle every time the truth comes out. First it was pay to win, then it was the marketplace, now people are supposing their army will get attacked, orcs are single use, and the devs will make you grind when grinding - that's why they call it grinding - in order to earn things. Better get a chalkboard, what's next?

Dark_Overlord2787d ago

@Morganfell

"Are you are saying you have a huge issue with an issue you do not even know is an issue?"

erm.... they CONFIRMED that you will be able to attack each others armies, so yes my issue will be if it affects my SP game for no reason other than trying to get people to buy MT's. That is why I said I hope that I can turn it off, if not then yes it is a huge issue and WB can go F themselves.

If I can turn it off, then good :) The problem is they have not stated if we can, so until that point then I will assume it is forced.

morganfell2787d ago (Edited 2787d ago )

So you think the devs haven't stated that you can or cannot be attacked - despite every major game allowing it to be turned off. So people are choosing "can't disable the feature" and are talking about the sky falling? It would be one thing if people presented both sides but they are not doing that when they get upset. I love the capital letters for confirmed. It's misleading in light of what we do and do not know.

And it has been CONFIRMED that you can turn it off. Forts cannot be attacked if you do not share them online.

From the community manager:

"There does seem to be a lot of confusion with the social conquests but the most important thing is no one can invade your game and wreck it, that's not what it is about at all. You have to make the choice to A) share the fort and B) attack other peoples uploaded forts by yourself it's not something that will just happen, if you do not wish to do either it is not mandatory.

All you are doing is sharing the state of your fort so that other players can then attack it online and no cost to yourself as a challenge to see who can do it the fastest or best and gain some rewards, doing this doesn't mean your fort becomes open to attack in your single player game.

The only way you can loose orcs is if you attack one of these social forts in ranked mode, there is even a friendly mode option so you can take the challenge and risk nothing."

Remember the articles that said the game was always online? How did that turn out. That was the first controversy. Then the DLC issue. Really shot down. Now this.

"Thankfully, everything can still be earned in-game without dropping a dime on a micropayment"

Moe-Gunz2788d ago

I'm sure they'll hinder the progression to make it so grindy that it's almost forcing you to pay for those microtransations.

notachance2788d ago

you're an idiot if you think they won't skew the drop rate from normal progression to madly grind the same shit over and over.

ninsigma2787d ago

Being able to earn through gameplay everything you can buy is not the point. The point is they've likely increased grind time to incentivise using real cash.

morganfell2787d ago

"I'm sure they'll hinder the progression"

Would you mind listing next week's lotto numbers as well? And I'll see you after you buy the game when everything you claim turns out to not be true. One bad rumor after another about this game has been crushed. Yet people persist in swimming upstream.

Ughhh, this game. Not only does it looks like a mess visually, but then the game has all these horrible microtransactions and now this. I also have trouble trying to fathom how they've created and tried to defend their "Sexy Shelob" character. Not supporting WB on this.

Assassin's Creed: Origins is a game that deserves and will get my money, thanks Ubisoft.

fiveby92788d ago

Little early to say on the next AC game for me. But surely compared to Shadow of War, it does look at least better in comparison.

skinox12788d ago

The game visually looks good.

Blastoise2788d ago

So few games I like to actually support these days, feels like I'm boycotting every other AAA game because of some greedy nonsense.

-Foxtrot2788d ago

Annnnd people wonder I come off negative and become skeptical of so many things

This is one of the reasons. Shadow of Mordor was great...I was perfectly happy, let myself get hyped for a sequel, put trust in the developer to do us all right and this happens.

Trust is hard to come by in the industry and I don't see why people don't learn from their mistakes. Hopefully people will watch it when the third game is released and the devs are spewing their PR nonsense.

Imalwaysright2788d ago (Edited 2788d ago )

This is not the developer, this is all WB. I have a hard time believing that Monolith would say "you don't need to play our game..." after all the work they put into it.

2788d ago
Scar-2787d ago (Edited 2787d ago )

Games in general are going in a really bad direction because of the spend practices of most modern gamers. Look at Tekken 7 and SF5 Their BARE BONES titles these dev's see everyone else profiting and they all want a piece eventually. I honestly find myself gaming less and less because I've beaten the crap out of my favorites early in this gen, while most the new games are UNFINSHED/bargain bin titles that are insanely skip. Seriously how hyped can you get to be a full price beta tester.

Top 4 Open World Games With the Best Enemy AI

From Xfire: "Enemy AI is a difficult subject to tackle in video games. Some may argue that current tech isn't advanced enough to implement ultra realistic AI. However, in a world where your phone's AI can book appointments for you, can't it spot a hooded figure hiding in a 'crowd' of four people? In fact, the AI in 2006's The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was so smart that the developer had to 'dumb' it down for the final release."

Is Warner’s Nemesis patent really ‘gross’? I’m not sure I’d go that far

From VGC: "A few days ago, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) finally agreed to grant Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment a patent on its “Nemesis” system – a procedural engine which Monolith Entertainment, a WB Games subsidiary, used to bring the world of Middle Earth to life in 2014’s Shadow of Mordor and 2017’s Shadow of War."

GreenDragonCVR1546d ago

Is it gross that the patent "effectively makes exclusive to WB Games the concept of…a player-avatar’s interaction with an NPC affecting the parameters of a second NPC"? Gross WB has attained "exclusive rights to a system which on its face appears to describe most games on the market today"? And they did it to "profit off its licensure or exclusivity at a later time"?

Yeah man. Gross is putting it mildly.

Darkborn1546d ago

Exactly, it's a pretty broad mechanic that a ton of games already have or are developing for right now. Now they have to go back to the drawing board to dumb their games down just to be legal or cough up a ton of dough just to release it.

Ryushaa1546d ago

I will not give this site the pleasure (and revenue) of my click, and I will not waste my time reading this opinion piece. However only the headline is enough to know the author is a dumb***. A corporation making a game mechanic exclusive it is gross, to put mildly.
