Walmart Begins Quietly Cancelling Some SNES Classic Edition Pre-Orders

Absolutely. While I'm glad this should help combat bots that have made things hell for those who genuinely want to just own a console, I'm sure some people just looking to buy for friends or family got caught in the crossfire.

Lots of my friends on FB are getting the same emails today. It sucks, as they were simply buying an extra unit for someone they knew.

No, it was absolutely for people they knew, because not everyone's close friends can be camping at a computer all day, waiting for the tiny window when you can actually try to order one. Some people have kids, some people are in meetings, and some people sleep occasionally. Hell, I myself wouldn't have gotten one if it weren't for a friend who was in the right place at the right time and was able to do an in-store pre-order at GameStop.

Not everyone who buys two units is a scalper. Are there a terrible amount? Sure. But good people did get burned here.

This is why I always pre-order with GameStop for things like this. It's the only place that's even remotely guaranteed to have the proper stock.

While I totally agree with this move, I do feel bad for the honest ones. If anyone who was honestly trying to place 2 or more orders for their friends family, don't get mad at Walmart (This Time lol) This is the scalpers fault, they are the reason honest buyers are going to get screwed. At the same time, I honestly feel every retailer should do this and I'm glad Wal-mart is taking a stand.

Really shitty title. Thank goodness for the following article, though. I thought Wal Mart started canceling preorders again since they did it a little while back when they accidentally put the item on sale. But nay. This is a great way of combating the horrible scalper problem that these low-quantity/high-demand items are having nowadays.... or I guess have had since the beginning of commerce.

These companies who sell this kind of special item should limit purchases to just 1 from the get go, that only one item can be chosen on pre-orders on their websites... Of course, I don't mean on everything on their websites... just limited edition stuff.

It's not the scalpers that's the big problem, even though they are a problem. The real problem is, if Nintendo is going to bring their classic consoles back for purchase, then maybe they could make enough consoles so people that want them can actually buy them, then stuff like this wouldn't happen. They can't even keep their current console on shelves without shortages.
