The Great Video Game Crash of 1983 ruined the reputation of games in the United States. Retailers were reluctant to take chances on new consoles, as they were burned with excess inventory after the crash. When Nintendo came to retailers with the Nintendo Entertainment System, retailers weren’t sure they wanted any part of it.
