Casual Review Reviews: The Secret of Margrave Manor

Casual Review writes: "Inertia Software's latest hidden objects game builds the mood up well with a haunted house theme, but offers little else that is fresh to the casual gamer. The player is put into the shoes of Edwina Margrave, who received a letter from her grandfather on her 20th birthday dated 10 years ago. The letter invites her to the Margrave Manor to solve its many mysteries and includes a stone puzzle piece within the envelope to start her off. Upon her arrival, she is greeted by a butler who explains to her that the piece she received is only one of many needed to unlock a hidden room in the manor. Thus, she begins on her journey through the many rooms of the Manor searching for all the puzzle pieces required to unlock the secret door.

An innovation Inertia Software attempted in this game was the random placement of objects within a level. This makes every play-through of the game a unique experience, increasing the replay value of the game. On the other hand, this feature also makes levels absurdly cluttered - while this is the nature of every hidden objects game, overdoing this causes levels to become frustratingly difficult. The game also restricts the player's view of the item list, allowing only 3 to 4 items to be visible at any one time, and revealing the rest only when those in sight are found. Combined with the abovementioned clutter of the levels, this makes the experience of playing the game exceeding tough."
