Why Is Sex in Video Games Still Taboo?

If gratuitous violence is all right in video games, why not sex? Could a release called House Party spark deeper debates and possibly knock down some of these walls?

I have to say, CC produces some of the worst articles and it has nothing to do with one being a girl or not. Lashing out at woman is too much akin to what you get from them so don't let their group thought put you in their trap. I fail to see why we are constantly asked to act like sex and violence are the same...now thats a type of sex called BDSM lol. Joking. Anyway, when someone makes a game,if it doesn't feature sex, fine. If it does fine.

The problem I see is that some people try to use sex or violence to sell a bad game. Then I have a problem. Its just like clickbait to me. It shouldn't be used to replace substance. Other than that, all bets are off, but what you think goes into the game in it.

Well it just seems totally contrived to me. On one side you have a female movement wishing to be taken seriously or as equals in the male dominated core gaming scene, then you have these websites employing female writers to address the real issues that matter most. SEX.

Games like Witcher and Mass effect have it, and plenty of others. Just because we don't see it forcefully inserted into every game doesn't mean it's taboo. I prefer it only when it's meaningful to the story.

Adding sex in games makes it 18 rated and limits the potential audience. Most parents will not buy such games for younger children..

I don't think most parents would give a crap about an esrb rating. Look at how many little kids play cod. Why is there a steady stream of revenue for that series? I think you're right to a point but not your conclusion. That mattered when brick and mortar was the only way. Most devs didn't want an AO esrb rating because they wouldn't put it on the shelf. I believe half (or close to) all sales are digital now so that doesn't matter as much anymore. Plus, I don't think that policy is popular anymore. Why cut your business over something so stupid? Not clicking on cheatcc articles anymore but the answer is, its not... hasnt really been. The issue usually stems from the depiction of sex, not the topic. Sex has been in games for a LONG time. Naked people running across the screen is where it starts to get iffy because people still see games as content for children or that is marketed to children. So then you have the Joe Camel effect of it may be for adults but it feels like they are marketing to children.

I just don't see it as necessary, unless you're playing a game like Bonetown
But I also don't see graphic sex scenes in movies as necessary either, they just use it to sell to people who don't need substance.
If it's implied there is sex that gets the job done without a needless, graphic scene.

I've always questioned why a parent would buy their underaged kid a violent game, yet if a game has sex in it?!...

I agree with the article. This issue and the core meaning behind it (free expression) is getting hit on all fronts. How ironic that everyone has torch BUT the people who buy it and the people who create it, the only ones that matter. Is it common decency to extinguish products or history because it hurts your feelings? I don't think so, I have no sympathy for any of the players involved in that mindset. I prefer the old days when such things were taken to the highest courts so they can get laughed at. It's a guerilla social culture now, its "intellectual". Why is sex rare in video Games? The lawlessness of too many laws. Legal, physical and cultural.
