Capcom is in a Sad, Sorry State Right Now

Capcom is still lost, but the Nintendo Switch and Monster Hunter may provide a light in the darkness.

andrewsquall2876d ago

I've heard its good but how am I supposed to go out a buy a RE game by Capcom in 2017? Just how lol? I'm serious, THAT is how much they damaged the name for a fan like me. And that is why they are in a sad sorry state right now.
Its like AC Syndicate, it was a decent game but nobody bought it because of the disaster that came before it.

The only thing I have to look forward to by Capcom right now is a RE2 REmake that they DON'T make a balls of. Them not talking to Alyson Court about voicing Claire (and its NOTHING to do with strikes as she has confirmed and reconfirmed again) is already the first stepping stone to disaster.

RE7 is one of, if not THE best, horror game i have ever played.

just saying

andrewsquall2876d ago (Edited 2876d ago )

@mezati99 Cool, again, I haven't said ANYTHING bad about RE7. I even agreed with you.

just saying

^_^

supersonicjerry2876d ago

well you go to the store and buy it that's how you buy RE7

If releasing a good game doesn't redeem themselves, then what does? Seppuku?

Capcom is a mess. Probably not as bad as Konami though. They have some great franchises, but refuse to utilize them. Yes RE7 was good, but I'm starting to get tired of the series. Would love to see a new Onimusha and Dragon Dogma game. Even a reboot of Maximo or Power Stones would wake me up and take a look.

" They have some great franchises, but refuse to utilize them "

Great as in you like them, they likely don't move enough units justify releases. I like Onimusha bud, but I also get the game series just didn't sell enough to really warrant a release now days.

I mean, how much did Power Stone move in terms of units?

nitus102876d ago (Edited 2876d ago )

I will agree that Dragons Dogma and especially the Dark Aririsn Add on (you had to repurchase the game) were excellent in many ways especially the battles. The meeting with the "Reaper" on the island was a shock (I was not expecting that). What I did find annoying were the quests which were predominately "go there kill that" or escort missions although there were a few which really did add to the adventure.

All up DD Dark Arisen was a very good game and IMHO if Capcom fixed the quests and randomise some of the enemy encounters (within reason), pickups (there is a little randomisation) and have more interesting quests with possibly guilds and guild conflicts (hint) the game would go from very good to epic.

BTW. The need of oil and one or more lanterns was IMHO a neat feature since it did get very dark at night and in dungeons (Why don't more games do this since this reflects actual reality?). Some really nasty creatures do come out in the dark even in the early part of the game. Talk about "Darkest Dungeon". 😉

Yes, I've enjoy most of Capcom's elite franchises on many different platforms. I'm all for new IP's from them as well. They still have a lot of older franchises that they could reboot and gamers would buy over a million copies. Konami is the same way, but they are pretty broke about now. MGS & Castlevania have been their only meal tickets for awhile.

badz1492876d ago

aside from RE, out of all their IPs, they decided to do Dead Rising. WTF Capcom? is this Western focus really paying off? even RE7 has lost its Japanese roots and is more like American Horror Story game now. it's a good game but where's the original RE spirit, Capcom? DR was created for western market too back in the early 360 days too but now it seems uninspired and look how easily people got bored of it. DR4 sales proved it.

come on, Capcom...just go back to what made you awesome back in the PS2 days.

_-EDMIX-_2876d ago

"they decided to do Dead Rising. WTF Capcom? is this Western focus really paying off?"

Well.....yes.

Consider this, Dead Rising 4 flopped to them, but moved 600k. Dead Rising 3 moved well over 1.5 million units.

Dead Rising as a series moved more units then Dragons Dogma and Ace Attorney, so yes....I'd say its working out for them.

" even RE7 has lost its Japanese roots" ??? LMFAO!

Resident Evil has never had any "Japanese roots" the entire series has always been focused on American concepts, not Japanese. I have no clue what your talking about bud. You literally just made something up...

"it's a good game but where's the original RE spirit" OH great, cue in the concept that can't be measured.

"DR was created for western market too" What do you mean "too"? As in like Resident Evil? The one you just stated "lost its Japanese roots"? lolz oooooook.

"come on, Capcom...just go back to what made you awesome back in the PS2 days"

Oh, when they were making games that were not selling? I love those games too, but Capcom has REAL logical reasons why they won't waste time with some of those IPs.

If you are just going to base this on classic "feelings war" then forget it.

Cmv382877d ago

Besides rre7 which was heavily influenced by outlast, has capcom released a decent game any time recent?

FullmetalRoyale2877d ago

Mega Man Legacy Collection? Lol
I know it's just a collection, but as a fan, the amount of concept art and other art in the game was so great to pour over. It felt like a respectful release, unlike a lot of other releases.

wonderfulmonkeyman2876d ago

Legacy collection was great, but we really need a new Mega Man entry. Preferably in the Legends series, though that seems the least likely, but I'd still pay good money to see that series finally finished in terms of storyline.
Heck at this point I'd just be happy with a remastery of the first two, with updated controls and graphics, and maybe a few new sub-weapons to build. At least then I'd have some hope that Trigger isn't forgotten...

ZeekQuattro2876d ago

The Legacy Collection is a joke compared to the one on the GCN and PS2 which had more games and bonus content all in one package and not piecemeal like Legacy Collection 1 and 2.

BassMan1252877d ago (Edited 2877d ago )

It was clearly influenced by PT. Also, every Monster Hunter games released on 3DS sold very well.

mezati992876d ago

"heavily influenced by outlast"

Lol

Warshade2877d ago

They own a bunch of great franchises but only put out a couple a year and ignore most they own. They really should focus more on niche gamers and less on trying to make games for everyone. Tell your CEOs that profits from niche are better than iffy MAX profits that may not come from crappy try to make everyone happy titles!

thatguyhayat2877d ago

Give onimusha a spot light. Give resident evil a break

TC7312876d ago

I miss Samanosuke and Jubei :*(

PhoenixUp2876d ago

Give their most successful franchise a break? Ok that makes sense

Let's not stop there and ask Nintendo to give Mario a break & Square Enix to give Final Fantasy a break,

TC7312876d ago

Considering Mario and Zelda are the only things keeping Nintendo afloat, they probably wouldn't go for that.

modelgod2876d ago

Yes, give it a break. Mario will always sell and and for a game that releases like every 5 years, FF is trash! I bet they're regretting not releasing SF5 on the X1. Haha! !!

NapalmSanctuary2876d ago (Edited 2876d ago )

Its all Takeshi Kaneshiro's fault.

EDIT: Almost forgot: /s

_-EDMIX-_2876d ago

or......you know, both?

Different teams.

Both can exist.

Resident Evil is the best selling Capcom IP, you'd have to be on CRACK TO NOT MAKE A RESIDENT EVIL!

Onimusha is a series I want to see back, but its not an either or. Putting RE a side isn't going to make anyone buy Onimusha that wasn't going to in the first place.

Both can exist and do well, but Onimusha needs a small ,respectable budget.

Capcom understand it won't move HUGE units. The last Onimusha legit, I don't even think crossed 1 million units.

The series just kept selling worse and worse and they were right to move on.

I hope we get a Onimusha 5 one day, but they will need to keep that budget respectable. I'd like to see some Onimusha remasters too! A collection would at least let Capcom know where that series stands with fans. Last Onimusha came out in 2006 and NEVER left the PS2.

I feel a whole new generation of gamers would enjoy and be welcomed to the Onimusha series with a collection. I feel them being worried about Onimusha 5 has a lot to do with them not even supporting the series past PS2 with ports, like crap, they port EVERYTHING! RE, Mega Man, SF, DMC etc, Onimusha sure didn't move HUGE units, but I felt the series moved enough to really justify a collection. DMC only sells slightly more then Onimusha and I felt if it had a chance to get a PS3 title, maybe things could have been different. They just judged the series based on Dawn Of Dreams and moved on.

Onimusha 5 would be a welcome announcement

Abandoned Capcom years ago, they keep pushind out horrible, unfinished games and milk the same old franchises multiple times per year. Sorry, aint gonna get those fads.
