I played this game to death on the PS2, but for some reason I'm tempted to get it again. Makes no sense. Ah well - what's one more added to the Tower of Backlog?

basilboxer2862d ago

I'd say it's definitely worth replaying. A proper FF for those disappointed with 15.

"A proper FF for those disappointed with 15"

You mean the people screaming and crying that 15 wasn't turn based? 12 isn't either.

RememberThe3572861d ago

FF15 was disappointing to because outside of combat, the game was pretty lame. The characters kinda sucked, the driving was awful, the story was empty, and the world just felt stale. Again, I thought the combat was awesome, but holy shit that game was boring.

BlahBlahWhatever2862d ago

Both are trash but you can say that XII is a bit less of a trash still this doesn't change that it is also a trash.

Zukarin2837d ago (Edited 2837d ago )

You're trash. This game is one of the best JRPGs ever made

Elda2862d ago (Edited 2862d ago )

Just picked this up at Gamestop due to store credit I had & I must say they did a great job with the graphics.I'm only a little over an hour in but I'm not use to the slowness of the turn-base battle system though I've played the original 11 years ago..it shows it's age.I'm guessing it'll get better once I get an entire group & get further into the game.

Use the speed mode with L1, it adds up to 4x normal speed on everything but audio/OST/cutscenes

txboy052862d ago

I wanna get this but I cant put down Elite Dangerous, hope the price drops by the end of the year.

Super remaster. Honestly, one of the best I've seen. It looks better than 90% of PS3 games, and if you have PS4 Pro it runs in 4k.

Darkwatchman2862d ago (Edited 2862d ago )

It actually only runs natively at 1440p on the ps4 pro. A far cry from the native 4K you would expect for a ps2 game

cartoonx12862d ago

honestly are you serious? it looks good but better thn 90% ps3 games? only thing it got is small texture update and some lighting + ambient that doesnt make it a ps3 game. also the 1440p on ps4 pro some how looks bad thn the 1080p on ps4 on a 4k tv. check out digital foundry article.

Elda2862d ago

I'm playing it on the Pro & a 4k hdr Samsung & it looks pretty good, just got to get use to the slow mechanics of the turn-base battle system.

Darkwatchman2862d ago (Edited 2862d ago )

They didn't actually say that. It looks softer than you should expect for a ps2 game running on a ps4 pro. It should do native 4K no problem. In their text article, they said it is better than a 1080p presentation, but only slightly so.

The reason they're so negative on it is difference of expectation. If you're only a 1080p user on a base console, ff12's image clarity will blow you away.

If you are a pro user with a 4K tv, you have seen higher resolutions on significantly more demanding games, including current generation only games. It is not as impressive to the 4K pro user considering what they have available in comparison to the 1080p base console user.

The disappointment is native 4K is absolutely possible for ANY ps2 game on the ps4 pro. It's just that the developers seem to be really incompetent and lazy with pro support specifically as evidenced by the return to Arkham collection's pro support.

If they gave the pro the same love they gave the base console, it would be running at a native 4K along with 16x anisotropic filtering and high quality antialiasing, but what we have now is a far cry from the ps4 pro's capabilities even if it does look better than the base console version.

Edit: I will say, though; while I am disappointed by the native resolution of FF 12 on pro and I did expect native 4K all along, the actual remastering effort is good and I'm surprised how good it looks for a ps2 game.

Digital foundry gets all hyperbolic about nothing, I stopped watching most of their videos because they are just annoying now.

Elda2862d ago (Edited 2862d ago )

No it's in 1440p though it should be in native 4k for a 11 year old game.

I'm glad Nioh got some love, but I think Nioh 2 should be there too, an even more polished game imho. :)

The graphics of 2015’s Bloodborne do not hold up. This game needs a remaster.

shinoff21831056d ago

I personally dont think ff10 is the best ff on there and bloodborne imo is the best rpg on there. I guess i still prefer my jrpg to be turn based and not action rpgs.
