Swedish retailer confirms Nintendo distributor is scalping the SNES Classic Edition

Yesterday NintendoSoup reported how customers living in Nordic countries were getting screwed by greedy Nintendo distributors scalping the SNES Classic at the wholesale level. Some people remain skeptical and are convinced the abnormal large markup comes from the retailers themselves.

This is really disappointing, Nintendo needs to crack down and sell these things from their own website.

Big surprise. Nintendo would have been smart to just allow preorders, one per person, and then manufacture that number of SNES classics plus a few more for shelves. Scalpers would get screwed, everyone who wants one would have gotten one. Simple.

That's a good way to go about it. Why not just mass produce them though, I mean there's obviously a demand for it.

It's just a cheap emulator, there's no reason they couldn't just mass produce it and sell them by the thousands, it makes no sense to me. They're just letting scalpers rush in and gain huge profits while they're cool with just selling a limited supply, it's a weird business move to me. You'd think after seeing what happened with the NES Classic they'd just call it a collector's edition and sell them higher or something.

Only problem with your thought, Nintendo owns zero factories, while sony and Microsoft own several so they never get hampered, Nintendo on other hand have to wait on these factories to make all their products

fenome2510d ago (Edited 2510d ago )

Good point. They have billions of dollars in assets though, so who's fault is that?

Edit:

My phone screwed up before I was finished with my first comment and now after reading your reply it looks like a stealth edit but it wasn't. Lol

I always try to clarify my edits, unless it's just grammatical errors :p

conanlifts2510d ago (Edited 2510d ago )

@ gemmol. Yes Nintendo own no factories but they could. Their market value recently passed Sony's value. They are not a small company. They currently rank 1033 in the global company rankings.

conanlifts2510d ago (Edited 2510d ago )

At a minimum they should produce double the number of snes classics compared to the nes classic and make this quantity available in the first month.

LastCenturyRob2510d ago

With how Nintendo handled the NES classic edition, Switch and now the SNES classic, they can go "F" themselves! Not spending a dime on a company that has zero respect for its consumers.

rocketpanda2510d ago

This was unfortunately to be expected. Judging from their past experiences in distribution they have become a joke handling these things. They couldn't even handle distributing Amiibos correctly, small little plastic figures ffs!

I reckon this is just the tip, other regions are will experience the same BS....again.

The world could use a little balance - Final Fantasy VI: Replaying a Timeless Classic

"Final Fantasy VI has left one heck of a legacy and it's still thought of as one of the greatest games of all time by many SNES and Final Fantasy fans. It even appeared as the final speedrun in SGDQ 2018 which took roughly seven hours." - Alex Legard from Video Chums

Some things never change. I went back through Yoshi's Island just the end of last year for the umpteenth time and it's still amazing.

Mavericks and mayhem - Mega Man X: A First-Timer's Perspective

"I love classic SNES games and Mega Man X was one such title that I felt compelled to play and I finally did so on the SNES Mini. It doesn't have many action games and the only other 2D shooters are Super Metroid and the controller-throwing Contra III: The Alien Wars." - Alex
