New Game Review – Vaccine (Switch) | Way Too Many Games

Bringing back the worst memories from 1996.

Just like the premise of most horror movies featuring zombies and mutated creatures, Vaccine is an interesting idea gone so poorly executed it was turned into a monstrosity. This is sadly one of the worst games available for the Nintendo Switch right now, even though it is quite an original concept made by just one brave person.

Props for the effort... I guess?

I want my 1,000 yen back regardless

pretty sure tank controls are the worst control scheme ever envisioned

NapalmSanctuary2913d ago

Only if you suck at using them. Maybe this game bad, I'll give you that, but its not cause it uses tank controls.

DaDrunkenJester2913d ago (Edited 2913d ago )

Tank controls should have died with the invention of dual analog controllers which was in '97. Developers just took a while to really figure out how to control players and the camera in 3D...

NapalmSanctuary2913d ago

Acting like there is only one acceptable form of controlling a character on screen is like saying there is only one acceptable flavor of ice cream or only one acceptable set of toppings for a pizza. Old school RE games weren't good for what they were, they were great because of what they were. The fact that they don't make any good games with those sorts of cameras and controls any more isn't an evolution of gaming, its a dumbing down of the medium.

the switch is still a thing?

Apparently it didn't die after Breath of the Wild. Haha

The Many Mistakes Commited By Modern Horror Games

Give me hope. Give me fear. Don't give me another walking simulator...

WTMG's Leo Faria: "Sadly, we live in a day and age in which not many horror games are released, and among those the good are few and far between. Sure, we have some good exceptions such as Resident Evil VII, The Evil Within 2, and Detention, but we’re also getting a ton of games completely plagued with lots and lots of frustrating horror game clichés."

Ugh, too many walking sim jump scare games lately. Hence why I really didn't enjoy Until Dawn. Not only was it bad jump scares, but the butterfly effect thing was pointless. All that changes is who runs out the front door at the end.

lptmg2610d ago

what the hell does Until Dawn have to do with walking sims?

Jinger2610d ago

Because that's all it essentially is. There is barely any interaction

TricksterArrow2610d ago

Or who dies and how they die much before that... In other words, the system working properly.

Fist4achin2610d ago

How about turning them into action shooters with tons of ammo at your disposal and your character an unstoppable bullet magnet...

Vaccine Review (Switch) | Nintendo World Report

"Vaccine fails to be competent as a rogue-lite as well. Nothing carries over upon death. The randomized manor never really changes significantly. The rooms, weapons and enemies you’ll find remain the same on each run. Each failed run feels like a waste of time. Luckily, most end well before the game’s allotted 30 minute time limit thanks to the unfair difficulty. But even with the short runs there’s not a lot to make you want to come back."
