Seems like they've applied the same policies across the board at Microsoft. They don't want to have exclusive games on the xbox every year but it seems like they've taken it to extremes. The difference being that Pro won't have any exclusive games, period (assuming Sony is absolutely adamant on that). There are no exclusive accessories either. It's really just a console to bolster what you already have and is seen entirely as optional.

One X will at the very least have VR titles unavailable on the standard Xbox One. I wouldn't be surprised if HoloLens is X exclusive as well.

Two very different visions, I think. I think Sony is really not trying to alienate whereas Microsoft might be trying to wean their customers for a transition to X. I think the differences in offerings will become more pronounced with time. I wouldn't be surprised if One X becomes a weird standalone generation- independent device that has exclusives and support until the next official Xbox releases. That would at least somewhat coincide with their vision for console generations.

First they said it was the end of the traditional console cycle - but publishers told them there was no way they would move to a new generation without Sony and PS5. So now they've backtracked and the Scorpio' ambition was scaled back and the XBO X is firmly part of this generation and Penello is talking about generations again.

They were never going to release a console every year. That's just dumb. It's gonna be every 3-4 years. But like the smartphone model, if you have a fairly decent iPhone(4s), you can still download the latest apps. If you have an older iPhone, 3GS for example, you won't be able to download the new apps, but on the new iPhone your old apps will work and maybe better. Same thing is gonna happen with Xbox.
Instead of a complete reset, where you lose access to your games. and devs will lose their install base.
It's an outdated model and it's not good for consumers and developers. It should not be tolerated any further.

For those saying, well I have my PS4 and my PS3 to play their respective games. So with the PS5 you have 3 consoles sitting under your tv, with 3 different sets of controllers that only work with their respective console.
Is it not a 1000x easier to have it all on one system and being able to sell your old console or give it away?

Great point. Sony and Nintendo are reliant on their consoles as platforms. MS has Windows and that dynamic may pull the companies in different directions. MS can afford to play around with Xbox a little (no more exclusives, beastly midgen upgrade) but as we've seen Sony is going to be a little more conservative. I didn't like the idea of these midgen upgrades at first, and I still don't, but I like to see these companies trying something a little different. My PS4 is my sole console now and I really don't feel like it's been undercut by the PSPro, my roommate has a PSPro and though the visual differences are obvious, they're not dramatic.

^^I'm upgrading to a Pro next month. I think the differences will become more pronounced with games like Spiderman, God of War, and TLOU2. Even Spike Chunsoft wants people to play Danganronpa V3 on the PS4 Pro.

Personally I'd rather them squeeze it out for 6-7 years. I don't want it to be the norm after this. I think this gen is an exception to the rule because 4K is just starting to hit mainstream and get adopted by the mass market.

Call me crazy, but I like seeing a system be supported for long periods of time. Everything else seems to be disposable nowadays, I really don't want to see the same thing happen to my consoles.

This really is no different than previous gens. The xbox one and ps4 came out in 2013, and simply released models of the same platform that enhances the graphics and performance.Now we can enjoy games that look like the versions they show in the trailers, instead of the shit down grades that we got durning the ps3 and 360 era, hell even this era. But any fool knows that in 2 or 3 years we will get another Next Generation launch.

I'm not really sure about that. This may depend on how much each platform has evolved over the previous one. Anyone who owns a PS4 and sees videos about Pro does not feel uncomfortable about not having bought a half-cycle console. On the other hand, anyone who sees this news about XBX feels that they now only have a paper weight with their XBO. I do not know if this is healthy for the gaming industry.

I don't understand the mentality. Sony has amazing exclusives coming up and everyone is praising them for this ( which they deserve). Yet in their next comments they talk about the ps5 and how it will be revealed and released in the next 1-2 years. Why do people want a ps5 so much at a time when sony is delivering the games. The ps5 is 3-4 years away. It will not be discussed next year. They are not in a rush as they are already leading and outselling the competition. But just for info the quote regarding ps5 is below.

If they had planned to start discussing or releasing it in 1-2 years they would not be saying"some time".
Plus ps5 cant be done for around 3-4 years unless they release it either at $499 upwards or only as a small upgrade over xbox x. I think about 3 years.

The next gen consoles need a more poweful gpu, more ram and a newer cpu ( which is more expensive). So if they did this by 2019 it would be priced above $499. Or it would only have a minor gpu upgrade over the X. Sony will not do a small upgrade over X. Also the ps4 has so many great exclusives coming up, why do so many people want a ps5 suddenly?

Furthermore, since we are speaking on statements, let's focus on your statement of relying on 3rd party support. If you would notice the market trends, Xbox is not currently a strong enough brand to depend on that strategy hence the 30 million console deficit behind Sony. 3rd parties focus on the console that has the most saturation, which increases their chances of their IP being adopted, so even if that were your desire it is not likely that a 3rd party strategy will change the current climate of the Xbox. Your statement is based on personal preference, while mine is based on market analysis cemented by empirical data.

Before my departure, I also would like to expound upon your 20% comment below. While Sony did release a Pro system, with only a 20% adoption rate, their motivations for doing so was inherently different from Microsoft's. The Playstation Pro, was only released to accommodate the power necessities of their VR unit without having to bottleneck the current system. So let's do the math, 20% of 60 million is 12 million systems sold, while this may seem like a small figure, please entertain the fact that the Xbox has only 30 million systems sold. Once you take into account that the Pro has only been out for 8 months and it alone has almost half of the Xbox's saturation matched, the picture begins to look very bleak. In business momentum is everything, so to reiterate, Xbox needs more than a more powerful system to sustain market viability. Facts

You overlooked what i said and repurposed it ( maybe you didn't see my complete sentence 😉) to support your comment. It has exclusive games. Halo, Gears, Forza etc. Next if the games people want to play are cyberpunk 2077 and other multiplatform games why do you assume that this is not an important factor. If these end up looking and running better on the X then that alone increases the appeal, which as you put it increases its viability. The console itself will be rammed down peoples throats as " worlds most powerful console". MS will certainly capitalise on this and many general consumers will be sucked in by the term.
Of course i do not think it will threaten the ps4 in sales volume, but to assume it will not be viable is premature.

I know little to nothing about PC gaming, I'm sure I could remedy that with some google searches but the main reason I console game is because it's an all-in-one solution with minimal fuss if any. Now it's 2017 and consoles update every other day, change models every 3 years apparently and require installs on everything followed by more updates. Can someone please explain how we call it console gaming anymore? It has literally become the same shyt in another box people. Call it what you want but everyone has shifted to PC gaming and hasn't come to terms with it. I no longer see the cost efficiency of a console. If anything just periodically update your PC for likely alot less if you do the math.Now if keeping with the times is irrelevant stick to your 2013 consoles. Why must we always be forced to encounter the endogenous topic of the PC and the "inferiority" of the console's GPU? I don't mind saying it, who cares about how superior the PC is over consoles, it's not like you all gain some crowning achievement for owning a rig. Hell I'm on a PC right now that has a $2200.00 i7 processor on it with 2 $1200.00 cards and I've only bothered to game on it once. Could you image why? I'll save you the time of trying to process it, graphics add NOTHING to the gameplay. The story remains the same, the only thing that changes is the controls, if I want them to. Actually, if I wasn't a person of means, even so, I've developed an educated understanding that paying thousands of dollars just to play the same games that I can on my consoles does not illustrate superiority at all, only it's inefficiency. Outside of a few Steam games that are exclusive, I could forgo ever visiting PC play as, like Xbox, it has very few stand out exclusives or genres to justify the expense. I do rest on the notion that, like my Xbox, if ever there is a game I would like to play I'll already have the hardware with the only hurdle being blowing the dust off so I can locate the power button. The problem I have with these mid cycle upgrades is I feel they should just make the consoles upgrade-able. Rather than trying to release a new systme every 2 or 3 years that only a handful of people are going to buy, they may as well take a page from the PC book. The way I see it is that would be a win win for everyone. It would be easier for Sony and Microsoft to sell the components and easier to convince gamers that the upgrades are worth it. It would be easier and cheaper for gamers to just buy the additional parts than to shell out 500 for another console. It would be one thing if this were truly a new generation, but these mid cycle machines are technically playing the exact same games just at a lower or higher res and fps. While that is important for some, for most we are still perfectly fine with OG PS4 until something worth it that makes sense comes along like PS5.

Let me say this..... the xbox 1x is an amazing piece of equipment. However I do not see it getting taken full advantage of and it will not really help xbox make up ground. If i am wrong on that latter front i know xbox will push for more AAA exclusive title and be over all better for the community(I am actually taken back by how many people are in support of this machine). New hardware every 2-3 years but allowing you to skip a "generation" without missing out on anything. Each "gen" will be supported for two cycles (4-6 years) by design and further extended based on lower requirements if possible (not every game pushes the hardware).

I wish the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X didn't exist, it segments the player base and makes it so people that bought the console early are punished with bad ports. Look at The Last Guardian, it requires the PS4 Pro to have a playable framerate at 1080p. I fear that the same thing will happen with the Xbox One X, how is my fat Xbox One supposed to not have a compromised experience if developers are targeting a machine 4x more powerful?

I don't consider the PS4 Pro nor the Xbox One X "next gen" consoles at all. Why? Well they have the same name as their predecessor, just with a different subtitle, for starters. Just as well, the PS4 Pro is a PS4 with 4K and an Xbox One X is an Xbox One with 4K, when it comes down to brass tacks.
