Why are some Monster Hunter fans upset about a new game in the series?

A short while ago, Capcom announced it'd be bringing Monster Hunter XX, the latest instalment of its long-running series that released for the 3DS this March, to Nintendo's Switch, and all was well with the world. Soon after, it announced another, all-new Monster Hunter that'd be coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC early next year called Monster Hunter World. And all of a sudden things don't seem quite so rosy. Why is that?

Sounds like salty Ninty fanboys.

NOPE. It just doesn't make sense, is all.

Capcom is using their proprietary MT Framework engine for MHW (which works well on Nintendo hardware). Having no Switch version (which I'm sure the hardware can handle, though at less resolution) virtually makes it an elusive for the Japanese market.

The main issue is; Monster Hunter Generation xx should be out on Switch for the North American market before MHW. Maybe they don't want to encroach on the sales of the 3DS version, though this whole situation is shady as heck.

You kinda just proved his point

I'm an OG Monster Hunter fan. Got the first one back in the day on ps2 upon release and I was mad when they started releasing on the Wii and DS, knowing that their limited power would hold the games back.

Guess it's karma that they're mad now. :) MH WORLD HYPE!!!!!!!

Fist4achin2929d ago

I'm sure whoever is mad will get over it.

Sounds like such a first world problem to me...

Switch Can't run a game like this, plain and simple

DialgaMarine2929d ago

Because it's not on Switch lol

I mean how dare Capcom bring Monster Hunter back to the platform it started on, after Nintendo has exclusivity rights for several years?!?! The blasphemy of it all!

I don't get the appeal of a game where you go around killing really awesome looking creatures. It's like fantasy Cabela's.

rezzah2929d ago

The appeal or the addiction is the hunt. Learning and growing to hunt these massive creatures. Everyone fails many times at killing their first giant beast, but they learn from their loss until one mission they manage to kill it. After the first kill, the amount of deaths between kills become shorter until you begin dying only due to your own mistakes or unpredictable actions by creatures.

The game is highly repetitive like many other games, but the rush of taking down each creature every time overrides the sense of repetition. Reap your rewards, build your armor and weapon then go back for more.

CorndogBurglar2929d ago (Edited 2929d ago )

If Cabela's was an awesome co-op experience with different weapons and gear that you make out of your kills, unbelievably fun battles with giant monsters that each take different preparation and approaches to kill, and a level of strategy and skill not really seen in many games these days, then yes, I would agree. It would be exactly like Cabela's......

You can literally generalize any game down to what you just did and make it sound completely un-interesting.

He's been in most, if not all the games and is iconic to the series. I guess he can be considered the unofficial mascot but every game has its own unique monster as the poster boy.

Because you had fun. I started Monster Hunter with my son on PSP 17 years ago. We put a ton of hours into the games since then. Never did I look back at any game I’ve sunk a lot of hours into and think, I might regret having all that fun.
