The Final Fantasy VII Remake has been in development for a while in collaboration with Fukuoka-based developer CyberConnect2, but apparently Square Enix decided to move everything back in-house, as mentioned by recently-appointed Project Lead Naoki Hamaguchi, who recently has been working on Mobius: Final Fantasy.

If it takes this long just to get one episode, imagine how long we'll have to wait to get the complete FFVII Remake experience.
Them moving development internally shows they haven't made much substantial process to make the first episode come out anytime soon.
I really hope the first episode comes out in 2018 but I have my doubts. They said that each episode will be as big as a full game so I can't imagine how long it will take them to make all three.
In my opinion they should have just kept the original intact but update everything so it looks current gen. That's something the Crash collection does and I would like to see that done with the PSX Final Fantasy.
