Friday the 13th: The Game Review (PS4) - PlayStation LifeStyle

PSLS: "Friday the 13th: The Game shouldn’t have been released in the sad state it currently is in. From glitches that make players invincible to terrible matchmaking that had me waiting over 10 minutes to get into a room, it’s putting it nicely to call the end product a mess. It’s really heartbreaking to see since there are still positives that manage to shine through if one can look past the galling lack of polish. The core gameplay, when it works properly, can be fun when played with friends, and there are some refreshing ideas underneath the jank. Several months from now it may become the multiplayer hit it strives to be, but right now it’s an embarrassing release that can’t be recommended."

I dont understand some of the high scores out there, the game is Broken in its current state with match making, and then bugs from the Beta are still present. I see a lot of people defending it saying the dev team is small and Indie, but that shouldn't give it a pass regardless.

Like this reveiw states, when it does work it is fun

mindtwang2903d ago (Edited 2903d ago )

The higher scores that I've seen have been with the PC version. They got codes earlier (so maybe the servers weren't a mess then), and it probably worked better in a closed environment.

That said, I think outlets should strive to test multiplayer-centric games out in retail conditions. I know that isn't always up to the reviewers (more of an editor's call), so not trying to criticize anyone who had a blast and gave it a positive score.

Christopher2902d ago

Wait times on PC we're still between 5 and 10 minutes last week. Many reviewed it with the thinking that more people would bring those down at release.

Summons752902d ago

Yeah. It does not look like it is in any sort of condition to be released and needs at least another year. I was watching some gameplay and it just looks choppy last-gen graphics with pretty bad animations. It makes Mass Effect Andromeda look like a functioning game which is really bad seeing that game is a pre-alpha mess.

I wasn't expecting too much with Adam Sessler behind the scenes.

40 bucks for a buggy 3 map game.... seems fair/s

YAO-BLING2902d ago

this should be called out since alot of other indie games was broken on release.. no excuses.

30 pound for this game, what a joke

demonicale2902d ago

Yes it's so average and that's why i can't put the game down!. I'm more interested in playing this game than Horizen atm ... yeah let's think about that for a moment.

pootymcpoockle2902d ago (Edited 2902d ago )

I'm having a blast with this game, so it sucks that people are having so many problems.

I must be lucky, as I played for about 6 hours last night with almost zero issues. The worst thing that happened was that I got disconnected from a game due to connectivity issues, but that only happened the one time.

A guy did Austin Powers himself when driving the car though, and when he got out of the car he was pinned against the wall and couldn't move. Jason couldn't even get to him either so that kind of messed things up a bit.

isa_scout2902d ago

I had the same experienceyesterday as well. Everyone I played with in the lobbies was laughing and loving it. This is one of the best multiplayer experiences I've ever played. Is there bugs? Sure, but none that have ruined the matches.

solderman2902d ago (Edited 2902d ago )

3 Maps and PS2/Xbox character animations from a company called "Gun Media" "Media" being the operative word. It looks like a game made by a promotional media company and not game developers.

The fun comes from the hide & seek aspect. But the player model interactions are down right atrocious.

demonicale2902d ago

The team is very small what did you expect?.

Shoot whats next Child's play?Actually that sounds badass

Tedakin986d ago (Edited 986d ago )

Evil Dead is great. I'd love a Halloween game done this way. Maybe it's a 3 way fight. One player is Michael Myers. 5 players are helpless victims trying to survive, 3 players are hunters trying to stop Michael Myers. Hunters could be Laurie Strode, Dr. Loomis and Sheriff Brackett. Boom, I just laid out the game for you, Gun Media. Lets go.

TheSanchezDavid986d ago

Alright, this game needs to happen!

shinoff2183986d ago

All thise games would serve better being single player. I see multiplayer attached and i stopped even watching. Shame

sourOG986d ago

It would. I bought evil dead and played it once lol. If there is any franchise that would get me to play this style of game it’s killer klowns.

CrimsonWing69986d ago

That’s my thing. I’m not into these asymmetrical MP games. Sure, they’re fun the first few days, but after that I’m over them. I’d rather a single player narrative driven experience that really pays homage to the source material like Ghostbusters The Video Game. That thing was essentially Ghostbusters 3 in my eyes and was such a love letter to the fans with Easter eggs and explored lore.

TheSanchezDavid986d ago

While I would love a solid, competent single player component, the fan in me is stroked to play these games, period. Plus, I do generally enjoy multiplayer horror titles like Dead by Daylight and Evil Dead, so I'm waiting on this with eager anticipation!

mastershredder986d ago

A mainstream moment full of mediocre cash-grabs is nothing to celebrate.

TheSanchezDavid986d ago

Evil Dead: The Game was good. And Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Killer Klowns still aren't out yet, sooooo can't really say they're mediocre with any validity quite yet.
