Gameumentary: As a fairly new but passionate Destiny player, do I care about what was shown at Bungie’s Destiny 2 gameplay reveal event? Yes, yes I do. There were a couple a big takeaways for me, but since almost every other site will be doing a play-by-play breakdown, let me give you my impressions of what is – in my opinion – the most important information.
As Destiny 2’s decade-long Light and Darkness saga comes to an end, experimenting with one new feature now feels more necessary than ever before.
In a world where Gambit thrived, Destiny 2’s seasons, storylines, and even its endgame might’ve revolved around PvEvP as a core foundation.
Destiny already has the pretty hyper 'raid' fixation and then they added legendary raid dungeons. Hyperfixating in PvEvP wouldn't work as well because you need a lot more than 2% of the userbase to keep that going unlike raids that are propped up by streamers who make running them their whole job. Most players don't play all the raids let alone run them over and over. And most who play PvP don't want structured PvE elements.
Destiny 2's Episode Heresy has done a lot of things right, but players have noticed an odd change that makes the endgame harder.
Already pre-ordered the digital deluxe edition but I'll admit to being iffy about "Destiny 2."
I really enjoy "Destiny 1" and I've been playing since its open beta so seeing how the franchise has evolved through its expansions and now its sequel.
Graphically D2 looks about as good as "Battlefield 4." I don't consider that a bad thing as BF4 was a great looking game and definitely looks better than D1, it's just not as polished as I was hoping. Granted, YouTube probably cuts resolution and I've heard this is still alpha footage so it may look a bit better upon launch.
Gameplay, it looks to depend on class. Warlocks seem buffed, Hunters look to be left the same, and Titan seem nerfed from D1. The fiery flying Sunsinger subclass for Warlocks looks awesome, good for them. :) Flying above your enemies raining fire down upon them and being able to drop to the ground and continue fighting looks stunning and I'm looking forward to playing as one. The Hunter arc monk subclass looks fun but not much different from Bladedancer for dispatching foes. Don't get me wrong, new Hunter subclass looks really cool and like a lot of fun, but it comes off as a gameplay skin for the bladedance, at least right now. Okay, the one cool new Titan element is the portable shield, which I can see being useful in PvE. Striker Titan is my favorite subclass in all of D1 and my favorite combo for that subclass is Shoulder Charge + Transfusion, which allows the Striker to be hyper-aggressive in standard play even when you don't have a super. In D2 this combo seems striped away. Now you can choose to have either Shoulder Charge OR Transfusion, not both at the same time and that really stinks imo. The Defender Sentinel subclass looks 'eh.' A throwable Captain America shield looks okay but I'm concerned about his defensive capabilities. When blocking with the shield how big is its area of defense effect? I'm guessing it's smaller than the old bubbles.
It also looks like changes in PvP will still impact PvE as it did in D1. Bungie nerfed a lot of stuff in PvP back in D1, which in no way was out-of-line in PvE, but as the two modes are linked changes in one mode had unwarranted and unwanted repercussions on the other mode. In D2 this looks to be continuing. My guess for this is based on fusion rifles, shotguns, and sniper rifles being moved from a secondary slot in D1 to the heavy slot in D2. There is absolutely no reason to do this in PvE at all. In PvP this does make sense, however, as it's basically forcing players to compete with primaries and abilities. 4-player PvP is okay with me, but I would like to see some v6v6, 8v8 play or higher; I loved the 6v6 play modes far more than 3v3 in D1 and was hoping for more chaos.
The biggest problem with D1 was horrendous latency and packet loss. All I've heard related to that has been no dedicated servers. If just reducing player count from 6v6 to 4v4, that's pathetic.
Hey Bungie...love the PvE aspect, but you are NOT doing this with PvP at all. It needs dedicated servers to be global, and 60 fps is standard for shooters today. Also, private matches are not coming either? This is something that was fixed and now is broken again.
Also, while I love 4v4, and prefer it actually, it can't be the only player count. It doesnt have to jive with PvE when other modes are available, but it is an issue when everything in PvE is 3 and 6 and ALL of PvP is 4v4.
The announcement of 4v4 made me think that PvPnwas being taken more seriously until I herd about the Peer to peer and 30 fps. This is not acceptable. If a medium setting PC can run at 60, the Pro and Scorpio can at least run 1080/60. PvE can be whatever you want it to be.
Sure.
