Yes, Rockstar shouldn't protect their intellectual property. Fuck those guys.

lelo2play2712d ago (Edited 2712d ago )

Protect if from what? R* has no intention of bringing Red Dead Redemption to PC... witch goes to show R* are just being di**heads with this move.

If only someone would launch a decent PS3 or X360 emulator on PC so people could give R* a big fu** off and play the game on PC.
Microsoft could launch their X360 emulator present in the Xbox One on Windows 10 PC :)

LackTrue4K2712d ago

@lelo2paly

And what's the point to any of that 5hit?

If your waiting this long to play the game on pc. Your a loser,

The game is dirt cheap on an Xbox/PS3.
You're only got your self to blame if you choose not to play it for this long.

ShaunCameron2712d ago

@ lelo2play

Um. No. R* exercising their rights as producers to protect their merchandise is hardly d***headed.

Erik73572712d ago (Edited 2712d ago )

They should port it if they want to protect it. It's common knowledge that sony and Microsoft pay rockstar to not release or delay their games for pc.

ShaunCameron2712d ago

@ Erik7357

Common knowledge only to a bitter, insignificant minority.

Phil322712d ago

Yeah, it makes sense. Doesn't make it any less disappointing, of course. :X

ChristopherJack2712d ago

Protecting it from what? The big scary modders adding post-support value to their game? Oh the horrors!

It's beyond pathetic that you guys are defending this anti-consumer behavior. This is the sort of complacency that allows terrible producers to erode all consumer rights.

It's not as if they were intending to profit from this, if anything this would've just meant more GTA V sales for R*, what's the problem? Seriously, if you're going to defend this behaviour, you can at least explain why.

DevilOgreFish2712d ago (Edited 2712d ago )

The game was never on pc to begin with. so it was likely a bad decision from the start.

x_xavier_x2712d ago (Edited 2712d ago )

@ChristopherJack

Could you please explain why you believe this move by Rockstar violates your "consumer rights"? The modders intended to port an existing game, of which they have no legal ownership, and give it away for free.

I can't fathom why anyone would think this cease-and-desist order is "anti-consumer"? Unless, they actually believe that owners of GTA V on PC are entitled to receive other Rockstar games for nothing.

DevilOgreFish2712d ago (Edited 2712d ago )

"The game was never on pc to begin with. so it was likely a bad decision from the start."
Just to clarify i meant legally. modding is usually done with games already released on pc.

Senboza2712d ago

@lelo2paly

What if they want to bring it to the pc one day? It's their sh*t, they can do whatever the fck they want with it

Kornholic2711d ago

"Protect it from what?"

Are you really that stupid?

ChristopherJack2711d ago

@x_xavier_x haven't you ever heard of Fair Use? Has anyone here heard of it? Comes down to the simple principle: if they aren't commercialising another's' work, nor would it have any realistic negative impact upon their original work, then it's fair game.

Of course, a bunch of guys can't financially afford to debate this. Shame, all that hard work & they don't even get to release their interpretation.

Now please, explain to me how this isn't fair.

roadkillers2711d ago

Remember back in the day when people bought video games they were losers... now if they dont they are losers lol, this world.

Artemidorus2711d ago

They should give people the freedom after a certain age.

The fact people want to fiddle old games is a good thing.

We all know when Rockstar create something, the majority reading this will own a copy at some point.

Mikerob20072711d ago

haha yeah agree. At the end of the day its their property so they can do what they want.

stiggs2711d ago (Edited 2711d ago )

@ChristopherJack

"...haven't you ever heard of Fair Use? Has anyone here heard of it?"

I seems like you've HEARD of it but it's clear that you don't understand it.

The Fair Use doctrine is not a get-out-of-jail-free-card for those that infringe upon the copy written property of others, even in the cases in which the litigant's venture in non-commercial in nature.

"the noncommercial purpose of fair use does not make it fair use automatically, since it allows the public to obtain material at no cost that they would otherwise pay for" -- LA Times vs Free Rublic

In certain circumstances Fair Use allows for the LIMITED use of another individual’s copy written material such as in the case of parody, criticism or research but the provision strictly forbids wholesale copying or competing with existing intellectual properties.

In regard to computer software and games, the injunction against the Fair Use provision is even more binding.

"Reverse engineering of computer software in the US often falls under both contract law as a breach of contract as well as any other relevant laws. This is because most EULAs (end user license agreement) specifically prohibit it, and U.S. courts have ruled that if such terms are present, they override the copyright law which expressly permits it." -- Bowers v. Baystate Technologies[30][31].

Please don't come her and delineate legal terms to their simplest level in order to bolster your point. It just makes you asinine perspective look even more ridiculous.

While it's bad news for modders, that could be a good sign for consumers if it means R* is actually doing something with the original RDR (E3 remaster announcement?)

Alexious2712d ago

That could be the only silver lining....But it would also mean that RDR2 is getting a delay, in all likelihood.

Marcello2712d ago

This is a very interesting turn of events, lots of mods out there for GTA5 why pick on this one :O

@alexious, please dont say RDR2 is delayed, the wait is killing me as it is :(

ccgr2712d ago

better late than never :\

Nu2712d ago

I think Bethesda actually uses modded game code developed by modders in Skyrim Remastered.

LavaLampGoo2712d ago

Well that's a shame, can't exactly call it surprising, but it's a shame.

2711d ago
PaulKersey2712d ago

Typical corporate paranoia. They think people won't buy RDR2 if they have this mod to play.

Sunny_D2712d ago

It also could be that they don't want the mod misrepresenting their game in a negative way if the mod turns out to be crappy.

Sam Fisher2712d ago

Or they just dont want you playing a rdr mod in the gta 5 engine since thats what they are planning to do with rdr2?

Artemidorus2711d ago

So what part did you think misrepresent the game?

Big_Game_Hunters2712d ago (Edited 2712d ago )

Thats just business.

All these console only guys want to say how PC will never get RDR but then they realize they would be hypocrites for calling Nintendo out on the same thing.
