Based on logistics, it means nothing. The domination of great exclusives continues

chaimera0862993d ago

Agreed. In the video I go into much more detail, but my opinion is that the lack of exclusives and the likely $600 price of the Scorpio makes it a hard sell, leaving Playstation in a good position. I could see Playstation responding somehow, but in a way that gives them better leverage with what they already have. A price drop of the Pro to $300 or even $350 would distance it that much more from the Scorpio and they can say "Hey, we have a 4K HDR system thats half the price". That and driving home the amount of upcoming exclusives puts them in a very safe position in my opinion.

Scorpio is too late for this generation, this gen is lost for Xbox...Scorpio tries to snatch some sales from this gen and continue to compete with the far more powerfull PS 5 .....MS tries to repeat the X360/PS3 strategy but with Scorpio /PS5 ...earlier in market system that would have the power to compete with the next entry of the competiton along wiht the help of some developer who will support the console by the gap that will be obligatory created by the PS4 transition to PS5 ...

chaimera0862992d ago

@Naruga I completely agree. I think that is exactly what Xbox is trying to do this go around. Force us into the next gen early to try and get a foot in the door and hope people come over like they did to the 360. I don't think it works this time around.

Lonnie182992d ago

There will literally be like 70mil ps4 out when Scorpio releases...so it will be business as usual for playstation.

chaimera0862992d ago

Depends on how they market Scorpio in my opinion. Playstation's sheer numbers definitely keep it in a position of power, but if they market Scorpio as a new system and usher in the "next-gen" between the two companies, then it does put Playstation having to announce PS5 sooner rather than later. I still think late 2018 is the earliest you see it, but if Scorpio blunders out of the gate Sony may play it safe until mid 2019. This will be an extremely interesting console release for sure.

Bathyj2992d ago

It doesnt put pressure on Sony at all because everyone knows its too soon for next gen and people want a couple more years at least out of this gen. You cant just start next gen because youre losing without a hope of catching up. What kind of a precedence does that set? I mean Nintendo can, but who really cares? Theyre too underpowered and seem to be content in their niche.

MS are trying to convince us this isnt a new gen. If they went the other way and called it next gen gamers would see it for what it is, bailing on another gen and turning to new hardware from a position of weakness. They are trying to convey power, not weakness.

Sony will continue to be the #1 seller for hardware AND software, which is what actually matters in this industry, business wise. The only pressure they have from themselves with how to make a console with an impact as big or bigger than PS4 and carry on the goodwill they have built this gen, and the last 20 years for that matter.

Not much I think. PlayStation has its own course, and it's doing well for them.

chaimera0862993d ago

Yeah, I think they have enough exclusives and good will to hold them over until they are ready to reveal the PS5. I think it'll be late 2018/early 2019 before they announce it.

chaimera0862992d ago

For those who want power but want to skip the hassle of a PC, buying both see the smartest move. Both have their exclusives (even though I'm hoping Xbox comes out swinging at E3 with some new IP announcements) and that covers all gaming taste.

Pantz2992d ago

Yep, I'm not very good with PC and always fall behind on builds. I still prefer sticking in the disc into the machine, it keeps me motivated to play the games while my steam collection lays uninstalled. Already bought the Pro + nice 4kHDR tv. Hoping the Scorpio will be even more powerful than the pro. Sitll plenty of good exclusives on ps4 and then could play multiplatforms best on scorpio. Plus hoping 360 games really will.

Bathyj2992d ago

Yeah Im not interested in PC gaming. Scorpio definitely has me watching how it goes. I dont think I'll be day 1 unless E3 knocks it out of the park but the next year will be intriguing.

chaimera0862992d ago

Phil Spencer mentioned having first party games to coincide with the launch of the Scorpio, so who knows. At this point Xbox could kill it this E3. Sony still seems the likely winner of E3 for me as they just have so many upcoming exclusives, announced and unannounced, that I just don't think Microsoft has the amount of teams or 2nd party relations to go up against.

Bathyj2992d ago

Yeah, but MS dont have to "win" to get me interested. I just want them to be competitive so I feel I want a 2nd console. Show us the games and gamers will come back.

chaimera0862992d ago

While I mostly agree, I do see it as possible that Microsoft can hit a little bit of Sony's user base and pull them over. Do you have any strong reasons that you don't see this affecting them even a little bit?

Elda2992d ago (Edited 2991d ago )

I'm interested in the Scorpio as well but if MS doesn't show off the most important thing & that is a slew of original new interesting i.p's & I'm not talking about Forza,Halo,State of Decay,Crackdown as I'm not interested in any of those games.I want to see new games where I'll say to myself..."I want to play those games" including an affordable price tag then I'll be a first time XB owner...Scorpio,which imo I think some existing PS owners would do as well.If MS can't pull that off at E3 this year then I will continue to play the console I know & love including other PS owners. The only folks that'll buy the Scorpio with a high price tag & no interesting games are the XB fanatics & diehards.

Lol, maybe I'm becoming an old fart, but excessive violence in VR seems to bother me more than in flat games. Feels more visceral when you're looking a person in the eyes before mutilating them.

By no means am I trying to be a prude and saying these games shouldn't exist. I just play them more sparingly, need more breaks. I need some beautiful, refreshing & relaxing VR experiences too to balance them out so I don't feel so heavy.

Don't forget they've put a lot of these on gamepass and ps plus so you can add that money to it. Good to see Sega going strong

Happy for sega ! I was expecting some kind of showing of their newer games at game fest but maybe they’re keeling it for TGS? Crazy taxi and jet set needs a trailer or something soon !!!
