It's been almost 20 years since Banjo-Kazooie released on the N64. It has been almost 17 since its sequel, Banjo-Tooie, launched on the same system. Since then the only Banjo we have seen was the divisive Nuts and Bolts which changed a lot of the fundamental aspects of the game. Jump forward to May 2015 and ex-Rare developers banded together to form a new studio, called Playtonic, and start a Kickstarter for a game called Yooka-Laylee. This promised to be a "Rare-vival", a game that would be dripping in nostalgia from games around the Banjo era. Does it succeed in doing this? Or are some things better left in the past?
Playtonic is a developer made up of a bunch of former RARE devs, and the first title they worked on was the 3D platformer, Yooka-Laylee. Those who followed RARE over the years definitely saw the DNA of Banjo-Kazooie in Yooka-Laylee, but it turns out the original plan was even deeper than that.
Wouldn’t they be exclusive to the Xbox One version just like they were exclusive to the Xbox 360 versions of Sega All Stars Racing
Although since Banjo-Kazooie skins were available in every version of Minecraft, it could’ve been possible for the same to apply for Yookah-Laylee
The PS4 has a killer roster of incredible platformers. Ranging from simple 2D platformers to vibrant 3D platforming games.
No mention of Astrobot on the VR, one of the best platform titles Sony have put out
Limited Run Games has announced Mutant Mudds and Yooka-Laylee tabletop games, both of which are available for pre-order until early September 2021.
Been playing it since I got my backer code yesterday. This game is amazing and anyone who gave it a bad score clearly never played 3D platformers or just suck at the game. This game is unforgiving, which is a good thing. It's FUN and the gameplay is awesome. Sure the camera will try to fight you at times (which is my biggest complaint so far) and there are RARE frame drops but other than that it's fantastic. Easily worth the 8s and 9s.
