One of the reasons I hate Xbox consoles. Way too many updates that change things! you can never get used to anything.

XbladeTeddy2995d ago

The more updates the better I feel. Just shows they are supporting it well and trying to make things as good as they can for the consumer.

yay1112995d ago (Edited 2995d ago )

Most changes are in response to consumer feedback so travis' comment is just stupid

FriedGoat2995d ago

Thats BS yay. The Xbox ui on the 360 managed to get consistently worse with every update.

ThanatosDMC2994d ago

Yay for updates. Damn thing still take 2-3m to boot up.

nevarDcirE2994d ago

Switch your console to instant on mode...

When I say 'Xbox on' my console is up and running before my TV gets it's picture, before sky has a signal, and before my home theatre makes a sound.

Their UX/UI teams have always seemed lost to me. I remember when they removed the Blade interface and then put it back in again. It's as if they have no clue about when something is working and just change things randomly with no real thought behind it. And they don't seem to take into account the energy spent by their user base having to relearn the navigation.

UnHoly_One2995d ago

They never put the blade interface back in.

Unless you are talking about the guide being modeled in that style. It was never the actual dashboard style ever again after it was removed.

InMyOpinion2994d ago

UnHoly_One - That's what I meant. They added a fallback Blade-like solution for when you held down the XB-button (if I remember correctly).

rainslacker2994d ago

You're surprised by this? UI changes are what MS does. Usability is typically the least of their concerns. Speaking in general, not just Xbox. Overall, I haven't had any problem with Xbox's UI, because I just boot it up, then play games on it. Beyond that, I don't use all the bells and whistles.

but your explanation is very reminiscent of how they handled Vista, then to Win7, then 8, then finally 10. They had a good thing going with XP and it's lackluster successors, then go and ruin it with Vista because it was flashy and what people were liking on mobile. So it's obvious MS doesn't really think of the end user experience that much...despite them probably spending ungodly amounts of money on focus testing the UI's before release.

Nu2995d ago

I actually liked the 360 dashboard better

fathertime44642995d ago (Edited 2995d ago )

Me too. However I must admit the new home button function is taking a lot longer to get used to. Either I'm getting to old or it's just not right. Personally I liked it better the other way it was or even the 360 blades

GuruStarr782995d ago

I agree. I've been on Xbox live damn near it's inception and while I did finally get totally used to the original setup, (one press on the home button took you back to the "home" screen") they go and change it. I even refuse to be a beta tester on dashboard updates, since they always seem to be a downgrade, or so different that they take a while to grow used to.

mwjw6962995d ago

Ok old man we get it! Change scares you. LOL how pathetic you "gamers" can't figure out a new UI in 9+ months. What a bunch of technically illiterate group you are, better go back and hide under your rock. Change happens get over it.

ziggurcat2995d ago

I would rather have constant updates than no updates at all. I never understood why people complain about these things when they're only meant to improve the experience, and fix bugs in the OS.

2995d ago
Trekster_Gamer2995d ago

Why come here if you don't even like XBOX in the first place?

Microsoft listens to its customers they add new features and streamline things.

meka26112994d ago

Gotta love that you got downvoted for stating the obvious.

I thought I was the only one annoyed by this. My buddy didn't even notice since he goes to siege directly anytime he plays. But it bugged the hell out of me when trying to switch games.

TheCommentator2995d ago (Edited 2995d ago )

Your "recently played" and "pins" show up with one press of the guide button, just like before, but is it really that horrible to have to press the guide, right, and A if you need to?

The guide is 3-4 times faster now so if it was still the old way it would have taken just as long waiting as it does now to get to the dashboard. People complaining are just lazy and don't want to push 2 buttons for that 1% of the time they need to go to the dashboard. Why do you even need the dashboard at all though? Before, you pressed the guide, right and A to get into Games and Apps. Now you press the guide, right, down, and A. Woo. Are you really complaining about this? Also, the Store is faster to get to because it's right next to Games and Apps when you press the guide, so why do you still need to go to the Dashboard at all?

shinrock2995d ago

The Xbox hate campaign is real on here.

TheCommentator2995d ago (Edited 2995d ago )

Lol at the disagrees when they can't answer the question, "Why do you need to go to the dashboard at all?"

FYI, the Guide has direct access to:

Home
Games and Apps
Store
Gold Benefits
Recently Played
Pins

Only things I don't think you can access is Community and One Guide.

HyperMouse2995d ago

yes it is, the home button should take you to the home screen

TheCommentator2994d ago (Edited 2994d ago )

@ Hyper

It's called the Guide button and it takes you to the Guide. It says Guide at the top of the window when it opens, so why do you assume that I should go to the Dashboard on my XB1 when it's pressed?

Conversely, PS4 has a Home button that takes you Home. That makes the same amount of sense that pulling up a Guide menu does for MS.

Seriously, this is why we can't have conversations on N4G. You mislabel things and won't answer honest questions about the subject when asked. How come you chose to answer the obvious question by saying it is too hard, but chose not to tell me why you even need to access the Dashboard in the first place. You contribute nothing to this conversation other than to prove your ignorance. Thanks for that, at least.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan either. I know we simply have to press A (maybe press A twice?) to go to dashboard. I enjoyed pressing the X button and going there directly

2995d ago
LordoftheCritics2995d ago

I like it as a single tap to home too.

The eff MS?

TheCommentator2995d ago

What is it that requires you to go the the dashboard anymore? I'm honestly curious.

meka26112995d ago

I'm guessing you most be the laziest mofo around. Oh my god, not having to hit a button twice instead of once, what were they thinking? /s. It's fine to have to do that, because now everything else is easier access and the whole OS is a lot faster than before. It's not much more effort to hit a button again. I hated having to hit the guide button twice real quick to open it like before, mostly because the timing was weird.

GuruStarr782995d ago

I don't think it's about "having to press a button twice". It's more that they changed something that was already quite simple and "comfortable".

Imagine if you pressed the PS4 button and it took you to something other than than the home screen. It would kinda suck (I've had both companies systems since the OG Xbox and the PS1).

I'm willing to give it a chance, maybe it is better, but at the moment it feels "wonky" as opposed to "easier".

LordoftheCritics2994d ago

Say that when they stop making zippers in your trousers. You would then have to undo your pants to pee.

Keep your quick and dumb comments to yourself.

meka26112994d ago

Lol at lordofthecritics, what the hell does a zipper have to do with hitting a button another time?

Dinkis2994d ago

me too and that's the only thing I miss

TheCommentator2994d ago

You can't even tell us why you need to get to the dashboard anymore. Typical prick, running your mouth off at Meka like they aren't making sense, when you can't even qualify your own statements. Talk about the subject or GTFO.

Also, learn how to use analogy. Yours sucks.

LordoftheCritics2994d ago

Lol why is your panties in a bunch.

He was running his mouth at me making one helluva assumption about who i am.

Chill and stop trying to come at me. I am not obliged to answer your question.

rainslacker2994d ago

How are you not banned? You've thrown out personal insults to more people on this site in the last month, than I've seen from the entire user base in over a year.

Come on mods. It's getting completely ridiculous what this guy is getting away with. Other fan boys can be annoying and confrontational, but they still don't throw out these personal attacks on a daily, if not hourly basis.

meka26112994d ago

Rainslacker; With all the BS on this site from fanboys I doubt someone is getting banned for something like that. Hell I get annihilated if I say something bad about horizon on n4g.

rainslacker2994d ago (Edited 2994d ago )

@Meka

Personal insults at least warrant a restriction. I know the mods are marking his comments as inappropriate, just go look at his history, so it's not like they aren't seeing it. But as far as I can tell, he's been throwing out insults, calling people stupid, retarded, pricks, etc on a daily basis, without a single restriction in weeks.

About a year ago, I once used the word Pony, in reference to myself in a sardonic manner to reply to someone else who used the word as an insult, and I got a one week restriction. I've seen that word thrown around 5-10 times in articles these past couple weeks, and nothing.

The mods are getting lax. I'd say they're understaffed, which they are, but they are dishing out the inappropriate comments, so they are seeing the posts. Maybe they don't care anymore, and just want N4G to go more downhill than it has since this gen started. I don't usually care about these things if someone just goes off here and there....we all have our bad days and what not. But TheCommentator is bringing nothing to the discussion lately, and seems to lash out at anyone who has a differing opinion, or something bad to say about MS. I can see people around here who get into heated arguments....like me and Gangsta_red at times....and we can try to discredit each other based on spurious reasoning often....but we don't go around throwing personal insults at each other.

This isn't really about the reaction you get from other forum goers. It's that TheCommentator is breaking the rules, and doing it often, and no action is being taken against him. If the reaction to your negative horizon comments comes with personal insults, then that reaction is wrong. But talking about your opinion, even if vitriolic, is not against the rules.

Anyways, I hate to be off topic like this. I don't care to derail the overall discussion here. It's just something I noticed from him as late, and was hoping to bring it more to the forefront. Continuously marking his comments as inappropriate isn't doing anything.

Even the Meta Quest can be an Xbox — Leaked images show an Xbox-branded Quest 3S

Windows Central writes: "CEO of Microsoft Gaming, Phil Spencer, had previously been vocally opposed to the idea of a native Xbox headset, stating in 2019 that 'nobody's asking for VR' on Xbox. However, Microsoft's marketing strategy for the Xbox Series X|S generation has shifted with the rise of Xbox Cloud Gaming and the 'This is an Xbox' marketing."

Ah, a contributing factor to Meta dropping PSVR2 support for Beat sabre! Microsoft’s always stuck with the modus operandi of “if you want an original idea steal someone else’s” and try to destroy markets they cannot win in. They are doing to to console gaming and now trying VR!

OtterX12h ago

It's like a rich kid who pays the smart kid to do his homework for him.

*Yea, such a shame about Beat Saber dropping Playstation support btw. :\

OtterX12h ago

The XBox way. Hardware, even game development companies.... let them do the hard work of building things, throw them some money, then slap an XBox logo on it!

Jin_Sakai12h ago(Edited 12h ago)

Good old fragmentation. Just what Xbox needed.

IRetrouk12h ago

Looks nicer than the standard one

PapaBop9h ago

This is probably nothing more than a branding attempt to show Xbox really is on all platforms. The Quest already has the Xbox Cloud app that supposedly works great. Would be cool if Microsoft actually entered the VR space in a larger capacity but if they was doing that, I imagine they'd have showcased it at their summer showcase.

Vits6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

Yeah, it's basically the same idea as the ROG Ally Xbox. Just a regular device that gives you access to the Xbox library and carries the brand, but nothing really special or groundbreaking beyond that. It’s not some custom Xbox hardware, just a repackage of existing tech with a logo and some software perks.

Now, when it comes to VR, Microsoft actually made a pretty serious attempt with something called Windows Mixed Reality. It wasn’t just a headset, they were aiming for an open ecosystem. They had APIs for developers, support baked into Windows, and even tools to convert regular desktop content into VR environments. On paper, it was a solid play. But it never caught on, third part support was half-baked and basically only Samsung headsets were worth anything. After about five years of trying to push it, they gave up and shelved the whole thing.

The bigger issue here is that VR just isn't ready for the mainstream. People love to hype it up, but at the end of the day, it’s a hard sell unless it’s cheap enough to feel like an impulse buy and even when you can do that, you need to support it with software. Making it a extremelly expensive segment for any company, just look at Meta, bleeding literal billions every years trying to get this stuff off the ground, and they are the market leaders.

Japan: Nintendo Switch 2 already outsold lifetime sales of Xbox Series X|S and PS5 Digital Edition

The Nintendo Switch 2 has proved to be a success the world over, however, one nation which is particularly keen on the Nintendo’s latest platform is naturally Japan. Recent sales data has shown that…

I guess the resistance against always online and digital only consoles is BS. The people have voted with their wallets.

NotoriousWhiz1d 4h ago

What are you talking about? Switch 2 is neither always online nor digital only.

DivineHand1251d 2h ago

Nintendo can literally block your Switch 2 console from accessing their online services at any time. When that happens, it becomes a brick. You won't even be able to play those games that use game key cards that are not installed on the console. Some users who have been blocked tried factory resetting their system, and when they tried to boot it up with a new account, they are stuck.

Speaking of game key cards, the majority of third party publishers have opted to use those instead of loading their full game on those cartridges. Imagine having a library of game key card games and going on a long trip but not being able to play a particular game because you need to connect to Nintendo servers to download the game first. It is not like the old days where you just plug in and play.

Game key cards make sense for large games like GTA, Red Dead, or COD, but I don't see why publishers who have games with sizes less than 32 GB need to use that option.

Profchaos1d ago

If you try to mod your system it could get banned from online play like every single system since the ps3 and xbox

The director of the original Silent Hill: “I look forward to seeing bold interpretations.”

Keiichiro Toyama—the creator and original director of the 1999 Silent Hill—shared his personal thoughts on the recently announced remake by Konami, reflecting on what the project means to him after more than two decades:
“I felt something similar when the game was adapted into a movie. It deeply moved me to see the names of the characters and locations I had created come to life visually, even though I wasn’t directly involved. That wouldn’t have been possible without the continued support of the fans and the dedication of the developers who’ve kept the series alive.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how the remake evolves this time. With the advanced technology we now have, I’m sure I’ll be surprised by how the game is reimagined. Since the original was built for the first PlayStation, there will naturally be challenges—like the camera and controls—but I’m eager to see bold and creative solutions to those elements.”

Haha Not only is bold and creatively not what the industry wants, it’s not what most people want.

They want to get scammed and pay twice for a thing they already own.

jznrpg1d 3h ago

I’m sure many would want bold and creative done well, but that’s easier said than done. I like variety so give me a little bit of everything, done well of course.

Nightcrawler892d ago

Hope they use his vision in the game

Inverno2d ago

Was the SH2 remake even bold? Or was it more or less just a 1 to 1 over the shoulder remake?

Scissorman1d 11h ago

it was not. it greatly expanded the areas and puzzles to the point where it felt like an entirely new game. the enemies and boss fights were given a MASSIVE upgrade. the abstract daddy fight in particular was incredible. and the team added two new endings.

Pedrof2d ago

I wouldn't hold my breath on "bold".
