What Star trek can learn from the Mass Effect formula

Ashley writes "Even by now, still close to the launch window, numerous bugs in animation have been well documented, T-poses and dead eyes being at the forefront. However, rather than really delving too much into the problems of Mass Effect: Andromeda, I want to talk about the bright aspects of not only the game but also the general Mass Effect formula and how I feel its structured gameplay could be applied with great success to another sci-fi IP – Star Trek."

A fully fledged triple A Star Trek adventure could make for a great RPG

joab7773000d ago

Yep. Though Andromeda reminds me of Star Trek and it's why it's so good. You actually feel like an explorer of a new galaxy.

SaveFerris3001d ago

I'd like to see a game based on the original series, but with a different ship and crew. Without Kirk, Spock and co. it probably wouldn't be as popular though.

gangsta_red3001d ago

I would love to see Kirk and crew in a full fledged RPG. And i would want the setting to be exactly like how it was in the 60's show but to be treated serious like the show.

Horseygamer3001d ago

i think mass effect would make a great TV series

morganfell3001d ago

Love Star Trek. I worked on a game over a decade ago and it is still my favorite. Still looks great on a modern system.

Really great story, and fits the canon to a Tee.

Derceto3001d ago

Now flip the title. What Mass Effect can learn from the Star Trek formula. It's far more expansive.

I refer of course, to Rodenberry's Star Trek. Not this cinematic diarrhea by Abrams.

For All Its Flaws, Mass Effect: Andromeda's Approach to Romance is Something ME4 Can Learn From

While Mass Effect: Andromeda was let in several key areas, one of its approaches to romances is something Mass Effect 4 should consider revisiting.

I hope Mass Effect 4 ignores the inferior prequels and instead closely follows the far superior Mass Effect: Andromeda and Dragon Age Inquisition.

anast158d ago (Edited 158d ago )

Mass Effect 4 should just make Mass Effect 1 but better with current tech. Fans would be happy. As far as romance, they should take notes from the Witcher and Cyberpunk.

Ristul158d ago

Later Bioware games have to little build up. You can have a normal conversation and all of a sudden BAM! The character you talk to becomes super flirty.

TricksterArrow158d ago

Reminds me of Baldur’s Gate. I wanted to practice some magic and Gale made it super weird. Not even gonna mention Astarion.

gold_drake158d ago (Edited 158d ago )

iii dunno about that.

the only really great and funny dating partner, is that outlaw guy anyways haha he was funny as hell.

other than that, i found every character to be very annoying.

Shout out to Keri the Asari reporter. Current relationship status be damned as she's game either way. Anything for a good story. 🤣

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast200d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine200d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast200d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman200d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast199d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

it's like bitch but your shirt back on, your not blue or spikey get away from me

BioWare Thinks Mass Effect Andromeda Was Better Game Than Reception Suggested

BioWare thinks Mass Effect: Andromeda was a better game than what reception suggested; taught the studio not to shoehorn open-world without any meaningful content in it.

thorstein235d ago

I played it and it wasn't as bad as people said. Is it in the 8-10 range? No.

It's a 6-7, which means it's a solid game.

LordoftheCritics235d ago (Edited 235d ago )

Veilguard and Andromeda are of similar level to me.
6 to 6.5 ish

Though I think i enjoyed Andromeda's combat and sense of scale a little bit more.

XBManiac234d ago

Veilguard has better graphics.

neutralgamer1992235d ago

I agree with you It was a 6.5 type game. Gameplay was solid everything else was lacking. Playing at launch with all the issues was just absurd. EA could have let the developers keep patching and fix the game but they stopped just like they did with anthem. It’s crazy to think multi billion dollar publishers can’t afford to keeping patching their games get medium size developers can support the game for years

But when you have android wilson running the company what else can we expect.

OtterX235d ago

Except 6-7 doesn't translate as solid. 6 means a bit flimsy, but still good/enjoyable if you can look past the flaws. 7, a little less flimsy, and enjoyable. 8-10 would be "solid".

But I get your point. I skipped the game entirely, so I don't have an opinion on it.

H9235d ago

I played this game back when I wanted to give every game I bought a fair chance and finish it, it was the reason why I stopped doing so, god the game was bad

TheNamelessOne235d ago

I actually enjoyed Andromeda. It wasn't a 10/10, by any means, but I played it years after the fact, after a lot of patching, and I had a good time with it.

anast234d ago

Same, I enjoyed it too. I might even replay it soon.

TheNamelessOne234d ago

Might do the same, honestly. Went through the trilogy a couple months back.

raWfodog234d ago

I liked it as well, and also played it for the first time over a year after it was released. The original trilogy was a better story overall IMO but I still enjoyed Andromeda.

lellkay235d ago

The game is so unbelivably bad, it's laughable.

pwnmaster3000235d ago (Edited 235d ago )

It really wasn’t. Well for me nd I’m a big fan of the series.
Was it mass effect standard? No
But overall I thought it was a decent game.
6-7/10.

Armaggedon234d ago

You might want to try playing a truly bad game. Go boot up two worlds or gollum to get the perspective you need

MatrixxGT234d ago

Wow, two worlds…red ringed my 360.

Armaggedon234d ago

Lol. Its one of the only games that I have experienced buyers remorse with. The only one I can think of is riders Republic.

matt139235d ago

So delusional, the title was an embarrassment to the original trilogy. it’s the equivalent of 2042 to the battlefield franchise.

thorstein234d ago

2042 had a redemption arc and what exists now is a pretty good FPS.
