Sadly the only real way to achieve the maximum potential would be to drop support for the previous consoles. But that can't happen this quickly into a generation. But if devs really apply themselves there is no reason why devs can't push the newer machines to the limit like GG did with Horizon for example.

Eonjay3010d ago

Right but how do you account for the extra manpower required to develop 4 different versions of the same game for the current gen? I mean, there are too many PS4 and Xbox Ones out there to consider dropping support just yet.

naruga3010d ago (Edited 3010d ago )

imo the idea which the article proposes (exclusive games for PS4 pro and Scorpio) ...is more like a cryptic support for the Xbox system. .....
everyone knows that if Sony drops the support of og PS4 with exclusive games on PS4Pro will be the end of of PS brand (60 fing million of people now playing on og PS4 and in many markets PS4slim sales now blooming surpassing PS4pro 3:1) ......

also the developper that saying these things is most probably clueless from development and lazy as he just wants easily accesible more power instead of exploitng to the maximum a console .... sounds more like an Xbox fan would say 'cmon Sony drop ogPS4 because Scorpio cant compete with it'

True, but the biggest issue is the fact that today's console game developers are trying to bring PC gaming experiences to consoles and mainstream say gaming experiences. The result is a broken game or a game with too much dlc content. Game developers are no longer making console games. A 2011 gaming PC aka PS4/Xbox One doesn't help either.

No. More like everyone slowdown and get a better understanding of current tech, rather than racing to the next new thing.

They've needed to make it about software rather than hardware for some time.

This quickly? The original xbox and xbox 360 say hi

thejigisup3010d ago

It's a very different time, technologically speaking and a very different market for consumers.

iplay1up23010d ago

Uh, the 360 was out for what 8 years before XB1, Only Xbox had a short lifespan.... So yeah, your wrong.

danny8183010d ago

Developers are just now digging into the Pro. Of course, first party developers tend to always get the most out of the new hardware... though, some third party devs are starting to take advantage of the extra power. Games like For Honor, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, Final Fantasy XV and even The Division, which recently got a native 4K patch. Im sure there are more developers who are tinkering. Games like GTA V would be incredible with a patch and you know Rockstar is going to eek every ounce of juice they can, to get the best results.

Like any other new console, devs need time to tinker. To find what works best for their games and exploit the added power. With consoles now closely mimicking PC hardware, it should be easier than ever to develop across the board. Just code for the highest common denominator and scale back for the lesser hardware.

Pandamobile3010d ago

Maybe it can't fix it, but it certainly helps smooth things over.

Previous console generations had radically different hardware architectures which basically meant that everything had to be re-done from the ground up to support the new advances of the hardware.

With this generation of consoles adopting the widely accepted x86 PC architecture, and using the same AMD CPUs and GPUs, developers don't have to scrap everything they built for the previous cycle just to get stuff running on the new platforms. Backwards compatibility makes it easier for devs to get started on supporting new platforms without completely alienating the previous consoles.

Graphics whore at its finest.

Flipflopp3010d ago

I think it's crazy to make Scorpio with tons more power than the One but not consider it a next gen system. I know where they are going with it by trying to overshadow the PS4 Pro, but to keep it in the same playing field as current consoles seems like a serious handicap coming out the gate.

danny8183010d ago

i seriously think that the Scorpio will be next gen it just doesnt make sense when the Ps5 will come out in 3 years time and the scorpio may have its graphics capabilities

Rematch director says there’s “room for more than one take of football”

In an industry with countless FIFAs, sorry EA Sports FCs, Sloclap’s Rematch is a brilliant arcade football game that feels incredibly unique. Putting players in the shoes of an individual player, the new multiplayer game is essentially Rocket League without the rockets and cars… it’s football.
