Mass Effect Andromeda Xbox One S vs PS4 Pro Graphics Comparison

Let’s compare two versions of Mass Effect Andromeda. 1080p running on Xbox One S and 4K captured from PS4 Pro. It seems the power of Pro can be spotted in crisper background, more detailed plants and a little improved lightning and shadows. Can you find more differences?

it's good to see they did absolutely nothing to enhance the experience for PS4 Pro users... good job, Bioware /s

yet another reason to not support this terrible, lazy studio.

bouzebbal2984d ago

this is typical EA.
i feel sorry for those switch owners... EA games ports aren't gonna be fun to look at.

EddieNX 2984d ago

Most of us "Switch owners" also have a PC XB1 or PS4 tbf. I feel sorry for people who will be missing out on Splatoon 2, Mario odyssey and Xenoblade chronicles 2 etc. F%£# EA's games...

TankCrossing2984d ago

What is typical EA? In Battlefront and Battlefield 1 they have some of the best looking games available on each respective platform. Frostbyte is a very impressive multiplatform engine.

Mass Effect Andromeda runs at a much higher resolution on the Pro. How much additional resource do you think they should throw at that relatively small audience, given they already clearly spread themselves too thin?

zaherdab2984d ago

Don't be sorry for them ... actually i envy them as EA will probably not be releasing that many games on the switch

ziggurcat2984d ago

It's not so much EA as it is Bioware.

bouzebbal2984d ago

If no ea or no major third party games the system will fail miserably, just like its predecessor.
That's how it works, and with these guys being so lazy they will make one laughable port and never make anything anymore

curtis922984d ago

Don't feel sorry for us, bud. We've got Nintendo exclusives and PS4 exclusives to keep us happy. Cause, incase you didn't know, it's not all us vs. them. A lot of us appreciate multiple companies/systems.

bouzebbal2984d ago

Eddie

So you are excited for games that are sequels to wiiu IPs, the worst selling console in the company's history ??
This is being a fanboy.
These franchises are good ones, no doubt. But if make third party publishers don't make games for the system it will be history in no time, just like wiiu, a console I own and I really cherish !!!
I don't care about third party games myself, but they are critical to a system's success

Smokingunz2983d ago

I'm actually enjoying my switch more than the p4 and x1. Haven't touched them since. It's a more fun system to play. U should play one first before talking.

philm872984d ago (Edited 2984d ago )

Are you watching this on a 4k HDR monitor/TV? If not then you won't notice much difference. PS4 Pro renders it at 1800 (checkerboarding), Xbox one (and S) renders it at 900p.

ziggurcat2984d ago

You would still see a difference in the textures. There is no discernible difference between the two.

Ju2983d ago (Edited 2983d ago )

Well, every time I see those videos it doesn't look like much. Then you pop in the game and actually play it, it's night and day. All these Forza bullshots almost made a believer...it's just not. No matter what those filtered videos try to tell us. It's just not the same.

philm872983d ago

ziggurcat, how would you see a difference in the textures? If it's 4K resolution textures you won't notice a difference on a 1080p tv/monitor as it can't pic up the extra detail.

windblowsagain2984d ago

This will be the last Mass effect anyway.

D.O.A

sampson31212984d ago

when they do the wipes it's like someone cleaned the lens when the pro is shown.

Bruh2983d ago

But they did lol

- 1800p ( checkerboard)
- Much better ambient occlusion
- Better shadow maps
- Better use of motion blur
- Improved texture maps
- Increased DOF

GuruStarr782984d ago

looks pretty much the same. I've been playing it on pro and I'm liking it so far. I see that some of the animations are dated, but it's not too hard to overlook. I like the gameplay and I'm hooked on it at the moment. I guess I'll have to finish it to really give an honest number outta ten, but as of now, it's an 8 for me.

AspiringProGenji2984d ago

I'm not sure how are those bad animations not hard to overlook when the game has you having conversations with tons of characters most of the times, unless you just look elsewhere other than the TV. As a big ME fan I won't risk it because I know how important were face ro face moments in teb trilogy. It is a shame this had to be an issue

TankCrossing2984d ago

It seems silly to miss out on the game just because the internet is whinging. The whole trilogy had "bad" facial animations, and it seems you enjoyed playing them.

andrewsquall2984d ago

@TankCrossing What about the massive gameplay problems and glitches. Not sure why people are just focusing on the "whinging" of JUST the facial animations. There are SO much more things wrong with the game.

You can get the game and enjoy/tolerate it, that is up to you. But at full price for Mass Effect Andromeda launched 6 days ago, up to patch 1.04 already, you were ripped off by EA and Bioware and you condone this type of game development also.
For people like AspiringProGenji and I, we just don't want to be ripped off or disappointed at the moment.

Chris122984d ago

@andrew. He's bought it and loving it, but you say he's been ripped off. You haven't bought it and you're complaining about it. That's some great logic.

AspiringProGenji2984d ago

The trilogy did not have bad facial animations. Some were awkard yes, but not like this. The characters felt more real, not dead and devoid of emotions like in this game.

yeahokwhatever2984d ago

The animations are a non-issue to me. Character's entire faces didn't move in Goldeneye 64, yet somehow, that game was super fun. Also, the dialog is so weird that the animations don't even matter.

joab7772984d ago

Me too. It's an 8 but I am loving it so far!

Themba762984d ago

i had on the pro too and honestly compared to other games especially horizon it looks like an xbox360 game or ps3 game it looks very dated. so i traded it for Nier automata

ShadowKnight2984d ago

I bought the PC version just for the 60fps

chris2352984d ago

i still don't get the point of these gfx comparisons. especially when xbox and ps4 are being compared. no one in their right mind will change his or her attitude towards the one or the other platform just because of how similarly a 3rd party game looks. i guess, these pointless articles are just clickbait and a reason to keep the artificial platform war going.

MatrixxGT2984d ago

Well then there's me who owns both consoles and don't buy into brand loyalty.

Darkwatchman2984d ago

Did you ever stop to think maybe just maybe some people find hardware fascinating and like learning about visual differences between the same game across multiple platforms even if they don't own the platform or will never get the game??? I love PC vs console comparisons even though I will never game on PC due to it being digital only, but hardware is fascinating. I like graphics comparisons.

andrewsquall2984d ago

Its that one time when gamers from all platforms can all come together and say "I don't care what it looks like on what platform, I'm not touching this steaming pile of crap. The sales are in and it flopped.

Chris122984d ago

Really? Show us some sales figures please?

2984d ago
Kiwi662984d ago

Your trying really hard to tell others to not get or enjoy the game just because you don't like the game , how about you let others decide for themselves instead

For All Its Flaws, Mass Effect: Andromeda's Approach to Romance is Something ME4 Can Learn From

While Mass Effect: Andromeda was let in several key areas, one of its approaches to romances is something Mass Effect 4 should consider revisiting.

I hope Mass Effect 4 ignores the inferior prequels and instead closely follows the far superior Mass Effect: Andromeda and Dragon Age Inquisition.

anast128d ago (Edited 128d ago )

Mass Effect 4 should just make Mass Effect 1 but better with current tech. Fans would be happy. As far as romance, they should take notes from the Witcher and Cyberpunk.

Ristul128d ago

Later Bioware games have to little build up. You can have a normal conversation and all of a sudden BAM! The character you talk to becomes super flirty.

TricksterArrow128d ago

Reminds me of Baldur’s Gate. I wanted to practice some magic and Gale made it super weird. Not even gonna mention Astarion.

gold_drake128d ago (Edited 128d ago )

iii dunno about that.

the only really great and funny dating partner, is that outlaw guy anyways haha he was funny as hell.

other than that, i found every character to be very annoying.

ZeekQuattro127d ago

Shout out to Keri the Asari reporter. Current relationship status be damned as she's game either way. Anything for a good story. 🤣

Mass Effect Companion Tier Ranking

One of the best things about the Mas Effect series is the companions you meet along the way. So here is a tier list of all the companions from Mass Effect!

IAMRealHooman170d ago

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast170d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine170d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast170d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman170d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast169d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

IAMRealHooman169d ago

it's like bitch but your shirt back on, your not blue or spikey get away from me

BioWare Thinks Mass Effect Andromeda Was Better Game Than Reception Suggested

BioWare thinks Mass Effect: Andromeda was a better game than what reception suggested; taught the studio not to shoehorn open-world without any meaningful content in it.

thorstein205d ago

I played it and it wasn't as bad as people said. Is it in the 8-10 range? No.

It's a 6-7, which means it's a solid game.

LordoftheCritics205d ago (Edited 205d ago )

Veilguard and Andromeda are of similar level to me.
6 to 6.5 ish

Though I think i enjoyed Andromeda's combat and sense of scale a little bit more.

XBManiac204d ago

Veilguard has better graphics.

neutralgamer1992205d ago

I agree with you It was a 6.5 type game. Gameplay was solid everything else was lacking. Playing at launch with all the issues was just absurd. EA could have let the developers keep patching and fix the game but they stopped just like they did with anthem. It’s crazy to think multi billion dollar publishers can’t afford to keeping patching their games get medium size developers can support the game for years

But when you have android wilson running the company what else can we expect.

OtterX205d ago

Except 6-7 doesn't translate as solid. 6 means a bit flimsy, but still good/enjoyable if you can look past the flaws. 7, a little less flimsy, and enjoyable. 8-10 would be "solid".

But I get your point. I skipped the game entirely, so I don't have an opinion on it.

H9205d ago

I played this game back when I wanted to give every game I bought a fair chance and finish it, it was the reason why I stopped doing so, god the game was bad

TheNamelessOne205d ago

I actually enjoyed Andromeda. It wasn't a 10/10, by any means, but I played it years after the fact, after a lot of patching, and I had a good time with it.

anast204d ago

Same, I enjoyed it too. I might even replay it soon.

TheNamelessOne204d ago

Might do the same, honestly. Went through the trilogy a couple months back.

raWfodog204d ago

I liked it as well, and also played it for the first time over a year after it was released. The original trilogy was a better story overall IMO but I still enjoyed Andromeda.

lellkay205d ago

The game is so unbelivably bad, it's laughable.

pwnmaster3000205d ago (Edited 205d ago )

It really wasn’t. Well for me nd I’m a big fan of the series.
Was it mass effect standard? No
But overall I thought it was a decent game.
6-7/10.

Armaggedon204d ago

You might want to try playing a truly bad game. Go boot up two worlds or gollum to get the perspective you need

MatrixxGT204d ago

Wow, two worlds…red ringed my 360.

Armaggedon204d ago

Lol. Its one of the only games that I have experienced buyers remorse with. The only one I can think of is riders Republic.

matt139205d ago

So delusional, the title was an embarrassment to the original trilogy. it’s the equivalent of 2042 to the battlefield franchise.

thorstein204d ago

2042 had a redemption arc and what exists now is a pretty good FPS.
