Second Opinion: The Wii U Is Still Nintendo's Best Console

The Wii U never got the respect it deserved, and on this week's episode of Second Opinion, HPP's I Coleman is ready to set the record straight.

Wii U is Nintendo's worst console and it will be followed by gamecube and Switch. Nintendogs can dream if they were still in 90's but they have to face reality. Something Nintendo cannot do unfortunately.

Too bad for you.. I personally loved Wii U, Wii and Gamecube.. still play their games..and all of those consoles have lots of good exclusives.. I understand the fact that they dont have big third party support.. but thats why PS or Xbox consoles are..well to each his own I guess.

I think your wrong about the switch. Just seeing how it's sold so far for just Zelda is amazing. I know it's early days but i think the switch is what the wiiu should of been but only time will tell.

As for the wiiu for me i really enjoyed it for the 1st few years and had some amazing games like Mario kart, Mario 3d world, DK, pikmin 3, windwaker (i missed it 1st time round) wonderful 101, splatoon, super smah bros and more.

The lack of 3rd party was it's issue and i do think it will be the switch's issue I'm terms of the big name yoy games like FIFA, cod, bf, NFS ect as i don't think this is where Nintendo will sell console but 3rd party's who take advantage of the switch could do well just like the did with the 3ds. I also don't see Nintendo bringing out a 3ds replacement as for me the switch is it and alot more. If Nintendo can give the switch some of the big portable IPS like Pokémon for example then they could be onto a big winner with it.

It's still early days though like i said but for me i see it being a good selling console for Nintendo

@mcstorm & Venox2008 Even the Wii U was sold out. Most major consoles always sell at launch. 90% of Nintendogs will buy in the first month. Its not the first few and next month that you should be ok with. Its the end of the year. Wii U was hyped and with all the third party support. It was getting the big hitters like COD and FIFA which are essential console games. Two years later. None of those important third party titles ever saw the day on Wii U again. Same will happen to Switch.

Switch will suffer the same fate as Wii U did. Its a console for ONLY NINTENDO fans. Not for everybody else. Most third party will be non AAA indies and bulk of the games will be Nintendo made. Basically, Switch will have a very small audience. I put my money on this about Wii U and i won. I will win again this time around with Switch. Since im so good at predicting Nintendo. I will predict that Switch will be Nintendo's last HOME CONSOLE. Within 10 years from now. I promise we will see Mario games on other platforms like PS5 & Xbox 1080 (whatever its called). Nintendo will cease to exist as a Home Console company.

I thought the Wii was the worst console tbh. The amount of quality games on it was much less than the Wii U. I may be slightly biased though because of how they butchered Smash bros.

it's certainly absurd to call the Switch the best console Nintendo has made. After all they did come out with the NES and SNES. To this day the NES still stands up and holds its own in gaming. Let's not forget about this thing called the Gameboy Advance or DS. then there's the Switch that has Zelda Breath of the Wild and has been out less than a month. To call it the best at this moment is idiotic. While it is a great concept/console it needs the software to back it up and make it truly great...

The general consensus is that it is not. I have and Wii U. I think it is a gimmicky console, that was dated out of the gate, overpriced and had questionable support. The GameCube, SNES, NES and N64 are all better consoles. With better hardware for their time, less gimmicks and better support.

I like my Wii u. Had some really good games on it. I'll always remember the Wii u fondly after playing Mario 3D world and captain toad treasure tracker. Want to get yoshis wooly world soon too!

I love it because you can use Wii games too, instead of having to use an actual Wii. Fantasic games on Wii U but not their best console.

The BC was completely disappointing. You were forced to use the trash waggle controller scheme. I was hoping I could use the Wii U pro controller but no. It would have doubled the library of awesome games.Wii U still has wonderful games that make it worth it though.

It's an opinion piece, I do still enjoy my Wii U, which includes accepting all the lack of third party support amongst the list of its shortcomings.

What's admirable about the system and Nintendo, is that so much effort & quality went into their exclusives.

A failing system yes, but Nintendo continued putting a lot of heart and soul into the first party titles.

In one respect it does remind me of the Dreamcast days slightly, it didn't sell a tonne, yet was home to a number of classics.

As a secondary system it was most definitely complimentary.

Yeah i like the wii u. Prob only like 30 games worth playing, but a lot of those are some of the best games of the generation. They were polished to a T as well.

The console itself isn't great but there are some seriously good games on that system. It only takes a quick glance at metacritic to see how many games on that system were rated above 90.

I just really wish they had revisited some of their classic franchises instead of focusing so heavily Mario games, last time I checked there were more than 10 Mario games but no Pilotwings, Metroid Prime or F-Zero anywhere to be seen.

I hate how Nintendo can make the most crappy of consoles that also happen to have the greatest of games. I personally would never buy a Wii U, but if my sister lets me borrow hers I'll be sure to binge play all the excellent games I missed out on

A console is only as good as its games so I don't know how anyone could think that. The Wii was the worst console I ever owned. I think the WiiU would have been worse had I owned one.

How can I take seriously an opinion that puts this above the NES, SNES, N64 or even the GameCube.

I like my Wii U more than the original Wii and more than the 3DS. But I still think NES is the best. I know a lot of people (most probably) feel that the SNES is the best Nintendo console ever, but I think it easily goes 1) NES 2) SNES 3) N64. After that I may personally go with Wii U, but its still no more than a secondary console and you can't even make the argument that its the best Nintendo console ever.

As a launch Wii u owner, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that it was the worst console Nintendo ever made or marketed. Remember when it was announced at E3? No one understood what it was, even after a lengthy presentation. The whole time I owned it, it was basically a Mario kart 8 machine, with a playthrough of super Mario 3d world to boot.

I remember being so bored waiting for new games that once Mario kart 8 got stale, I sold it. Especially after I found out Devils 3rd was a dud.

Yeah, I know, it's an Opinion....but, cmon.... NES/SNES/N64 were the glory days of their best consoles, hence why those were the best things they ever sold outside of the Wii Soccer-mom craze that it became - Wii clearly wasn't the best they made, but just the best seller.

For me and my situation the wii u was the perfect console. I'm a pc gamer who wanted to try something else. I loved it and still do. I mean it's a console, so there are various issues but I get hardware to play games and the wii u has some amazing titles.
Also I went away for a few months a few years ago and was able to take my wii u with me and have some fun without the need of a TV!

The concept was what made me buy a Wii U. Lack of 3rd party is what kept the console in a draw for a year+.
