Mass Effect Andromeda Receives Backlash For Poorly Done Gay Sex Scenes

Mass Effect Andromeda lacks decent gay sex scenes in both quality and quantity.

Well I'm glad I'm never going to go that route to know if its good or bad.. ;)

game4funz2965d ago

Same here. But I do notice that I never saw an article talking about those same issues for hetero romances in DRagon Age inquisition. Why wasnt anyone complaining then?

Highlife2965d ago

Gay sex is poorly done. Disgusting

ravinash2965d ago

@ Highlife

I don't think you were the target market for those scenes.

rainslacker2965d ago (Edited 2965d ago )

Was bioware ever praised for having great sex scenes of any kind? All their sex scenes are like some crappy 80's teen movie sex scene. Pretty pointless and silly, and always fade out before any actual sex.

Think the fact the scene was a gay sex scene is purely incidental to it being poorly done.

Unspoken2964d ago

Ugly female characters, transgender issue, poor gay sex scenes? These idiots are becoming the very thing they complain about in "social justice warriors". Like who gives a flying f?

Forget story and game play, who has time for that?

How hard is it for a typical straight man making a video game sex scene to sit down, with a box of tissues and a scented candle to watch some hardcore gay porn.

Psychotica2965d ago

For a straight man, it's not "hard" at all..

andrewsquall2965d ago

So even after letting all the talented devs go and getting in people that makes the staff more "diverse", they STILL ended up being biased and against gay people. Nice. Hope it was worth destroying a franchise over.
And when I say "destroyed" I mean by the time the NEXT game comes out, then we will see how much damage this has done to the name.

UltraNova2965d ago

Lesson of the day at Bioware: You can never please everyone so just keep doing what you do best.

Well at least I hope they learned that.

game4funz2965d ago (Edited 2965d ago )

That is why I feel the team is under performing.
They are being tasked to please people's gender preferences, ideologies, political views, and media acceptance or expectations.

People should not feel forced to be more diverse or more inclusive. It should come naturally if it should come at all.
And unfortunately it is not coming naturally but instead being forced.

TheCommentator2965d ago

The problem is that their best isn't very good anymore, and they're pleasing significantly less people than they used to.

morganfell2965d ago (Edited 2965d ago )

"That is why I feel the team is under performing."

They are underperforming because they are trying to please people...period.

Instead they should fulfill their own artistic vision and then let the chips fall where they may. They should seek to please themselves first, pour the care of what they are doing into the project and the game will be successful. Their goal, wrongly, was to make a game everyone will buy. Instead they should have been concerned about making a game they themselves would want to keep playing and then the sales aspect will take care of itself and in grand fashion.

It is like people that go to the gym to lose weight. It never works. People start to make excuses and skip days. They want the end result but do not immerse themselves in the process. But if they get involved in something physical and develop a love for it the weight loss takes care of itself. Bioware focused on sales instead of game making. If they had attended first and foremost to the game the sales would have taken off. "It is like a finger pointing a way..." You know the rest.

By attempting to please all of these different groups and not offend anyone they tried to navigate a minefield blindfolded on a unicycle. And they didn't make it. Instead of producing the game they loved, it was assembled with a production line mentality according to a floorplan designed by a committee of social architects... who all wanted something different.

When you try to be everything to everyone you wind up being nothing to anyone.

joab7772965d ago

I will say though, that while the eyes and skin textures are last gen or worse, the rest of the game is gorgeous. Combat is phenomenal and I really haven't had any dialogue issues. It's not a terrible game.

8.5 until I read this article. Now it's a 4 at best lmao!

-Foxtrot2965d ago

Next game will hopefully just pick up after ME3 with Shepard recovering from being indoctrinated

"Whaaaaaa ME3 never happened, the Reapers are still coming? Better go to a new galaxy you guys have just discovered to find a way to stop them"

GrubsterBeater2965d ago

This is what happens when you try to appease the SJW cult. Nothing is ever good enough, and they will continue to complain, even when we are forced to be gay by the state, they will still say we aren't being "gay enough".

Stop this stupid cultural and sexual its shoe ins that thea3 SJWs are demanding. It's just making things more and more ridiculous, and making them become more and more vocal, all while complaining even more. Make it stop!

slasaru012965d ago

I think animators were straight and they were disgusted to code a gay sex scene. I would feel the same.

ClayRules20122965d ago

Shame on Bioware, for ALL the wrongs they've done with this game. Unbelievable & unprofessional.

ironcrow23862965d ago

mass effect 1 - my fem shep gets it on with liara...mass effect 2 - liara; the suddenly lady of the criminal underworld more or less dumps me and tosses me aside...therefore Andromeda can suck it...not having my heart broken again so all these backlashes against lack of gay scenes means piss all :D

bluefox7552965d ago

To be fair, only about 4% of the population have experienced gay sex, so it's understandable that they might not get it right. Also, oral sex and sodomy are rarely shown in straight sex either as far as mainstream entertainment goes.

Nodoze2965d ago

Which begs the question as to why it is included at all. Working to appease 4% at the expense of the others?? The math does not work here.

Zriley562965d ago

How the hell is it at the expense of others? It can't take THAT much resources to toss together a decent 10 minute scene or two.

Goldby2965d ago

well if thats the case, there are 0% cases of humans having sexual intercourse and relations with Aliens from space./ why are they represented in the game?

Ashlen2965d ago

What expense is there when it's 100% optional, and equates to less than 1% of the overall game experience?

It's an 80+ hour game with 10 minutes of dialog and 5 minutes of cut scenes devoted to the romance.

game4funz2965d ago

@goldby

Because that is the natural course of the games concept and lore.
The creator of mass effect intended it to be that way and you can tell by the amount of lore there is to be had. That's why aliens are represented. The creators chose it. Which is different then having something chosen for you. The feeling of being forced to add something into the game.

Problem here are the complaints of what is in the game. And the complaints aren't coming from hetero or aliens. I think anyways. Maybe there are aliens among us.

Calither2965d ago

I'm sorry, what loss is there to anyone this wasn't targeted to?

Unspoken2964d ago

Nodoze has lost so much of his dignity by having to view gay sex that he now seeks counseling.

Goldby2964d ago

@Games4funz

So in a FICTIONAL world, where humans have sex with Aliens its ok becuase of lore, yet having gay people in the same game is absurd.....

THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY FUCKING SENSE. before humans find it normal to have sex with aliens, the human population will see gay sex as normal. afterall, one is at least the same species. natural course of human evolution.

For All Its Flaws, Mass Effect: Andromeda's Approach to Romance is Something ME4 Can Learn From

While Mass Effect: Andromeda was let in several key areas, one of its approaches to romances is something Mass Effect 4 should consider revisiting.

I hope Mass Effect 4 ignores the inferior prequels and instead closely follows the far superior Mass Effect: Andromeda and Dragon Age Inquisition.

anast105d ago (Edited 105d ago )

Mass Effect 4 should just make Mass Effect 1 but better with current tech. Fans would be happy. As far as romance, they should take notes from the Witcher and Cyberpunk.

Ristul105d ago

Later Bioware games have to little build up. You can have a normal conversation and all of a sudden BAM! The character you talk to becomes super flirty.

TricksterArrow104d ago

Reminds me of Baldur’s Gate. I wanted to practice some magic and Gale made it super weird. Not even gonna mention Astarion.

gold_drake104d ago (Edited 104d ago )

iii dunno about that.

the only really great and funny dating partner, is that outlaw guy anyways haha he was funny as hell.

other than that, i found every character to be very annoying.

ZeekQuattro104d ago

Shout out to Keri the Asari reporter. Current relationship status be damned as she's game either way. Anything for a good story. 🤣

Mass Effect Companion Tier Ranking

One of the best things about the Mas Effect series is the companions you meet along the way. So here is a tier list of all the companions from Mass Effect!

IAMRealHooman146d ago

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast146d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine146d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast146d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman146d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast146d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

IAMRealHooman145d ago

it's like bitch but your shirt back on, your not blue or spikey get away from me

BioWare Thinks Mass Effect Andromeda Was Better Game Than Reception Suggested

BioWare thinks Mass Effect: Andromeda was a better game than what reception suggested; taught the studio not to shoehorn open-world without any meaningful content in it.

thorstein181d ago

I played it and it wasn't as bad as people said. Is it in the 8-10 range? No.

It's a 6-7, which means it's a solid game.

LordoftheCritics181d ago (Edited 181d ago )

Veilguard and Andromeda are of similar level to me.
6 to 6.5 ish

Though I think i enjoyed Andromeda's combat and sense of scale a little bit more.

XBManiac181d ago

Veilguard has better graphics.

neutralgamer1992181d ago

I agree with you It was a 6.5 type game. Gameplay was solid everything else was lacking. Playing at launch with all the issues was just absurd. EA could have let the developers keep patching and fix the game but they stopped just like they did with anthem. It’s crazy to think multi billion dollar publishers can’t afford to keeping patching their games get medium size developers can support the game for years

But when you have android wilson running the company what else can we expect.

OtterX181d ago

Except 6-7 doesn't translate as solid. 6 means a bit flimsy, but still good/enjoyable if you can look past the flaws. 7, a little less flimsy, and enjoyable. 8-10 would be "solid".

But I get your point. I skipped the game entirely, so I don't have an opinion on it.

H9181d ago

I played this game back when I wanted to give every game I bought a fair chance and finish it, it was the reason why I stopped doing so, god the game was bad

TheNamelessOne181d ago

I actually enjoyed Andromeda. It wasn't a 10/10, by any means, but I played it years after the fact, after a lot of patching, and I had a good time with it.

anast181d ago

Same, I enjoyed it too. I might even replay it soon.

TheNamelessOne181d ago

Might do the same, honestly. Went through the trilogy a couple months back.

raWfodog181d ago

I liked it as well, and also played it for the first time over a year after it was released. The original trilogy was a better story overall IMO but I still enjoyed Andromeda.

lellkay181d ago

The game is so unbelivably bad, it's laughable.

pwnmaster3000181d ago (Edited 181d ago )

It really wasn’t. Well for me nd I’m a big fan of the series.
Was it mass effect standard? No
But overall I thought it was a decent game.
6-7/10.

Armaggedon181d ago

You might want to try playing a truly bad game. Go boot up two worlds or gollum to get the perspective you need

MatrixxGT181d ago

Wow, two worlds…red ringed my 360.

Armaggedon181d ago

Lol. Its one of the only games that I have experienced buyers remorse with. The only one I can think of is riders Republic.

matt139181d ago

So delusional, the title was an embarrassment to the original trilogy. it’s the equivalent of 2042 to the battlefield franchise.

thorstein181d ago

2042 had a redemption arc and what exists now is a pretty good FPS.
