Horizon Zero Dawn Made Me Love Video Games Again

Gizmodo - Historically, once I beat a video game, I rarely keep playing it. What’s the point? The story is done and I don’t get satisfaction from 100 percent completion. Well, with Horizon Zero Dawn, not only have I kept playing it, I don’t want it to end. Ever. Guerrilla Games has created a world and experience that has reinvigorated my love of video games.

This game make me love video games even more than ever. It's just that the game make me go wow from this to this 😌. Sometimes, video game can also be relaxing. I remember when I played Journey, all I do is watch the beauty of landscapes.

Freedomland3013d ago

I have nothing but good things to say about this game.

MVGeneral3013d ago

The game is really really good. I'm surprised how good it is. I've dropped every other game I used to play and am only focusing on this. I used to rotate between games like black ops, for honor and a single player game. I am totally invested that I can't play anything else. I also don't want it to end.

mania5683013d ago

yup, i see myself comming back to play it again and again on short bursts, just fight some machines and experience weapons im not using much right now, one thing i rarely do on games nowadays, though i squeeze every game for all their worth the first playthrough, im over 60 hours in horizon, lv 47, still only did a few main missions and am this close to complete all side missions and collectables, getting there. Been awile since i felt this refreshed playing a game, one of my favorite games so far, they better be making the second one xD

InKnight7s3013d ago

U r lucky that u didnt finish the story yet

MVGeneral3013d ago

I wish they made a trophy for difficulty. Like playing it on the highest difficulty then I would have an excuse to play it again, not that I need a reason.

ravens523013d ago

That level tho lol 😲. Highest level main mission is 35. Level doesn't really make a difference tho, I guess. Enjoy tho, wish I didnt beat it already lol

MVGeneral3013d ago

Yeah enemies scale with you, I think. Cus I was level 20 and I did a 14 mission and those bellow backs were a b**ch.

majedx93013d ago

x ) 33 hours, lv 40 and still need to do a lot of main/side missions

Dark_Knightmare23013d ago (Edited 3013d ago )

Same here I'm level 38 at 42 hours and have only done 9 main missions,7 sidequests and 5 errands. I still haven't made it to meridian although I'm almost there and still have about 30 percent of the map to uncover. I just love this game and want it to last. I mean i will def play it again but you only get that first experience once and I'm going to savor it

Lynx02073013d ago

Same here. 28 hours, 43 level and main story missions are for 19 lvl now. I did most of side quests.

DashArrivals3013d ago

How can you tell how long you've played it for. I have no idea. It feels like I've played 60 hours but I'm only like 33% done. I'm doing everything and upgrading everything and collecting everything also

nX3013d ago

I guess lvl 47 speaks for itself. Though maybe you can see the playtime in your save file, dunno.

Dark_Knightmare23013d ago

Do manual save at the bonfire and it will tell you there

This is special game, and I don't say that lightly.

I haven't even even finished the story yet and I can already tell that this might just be my favourite science fiction narrative in a game. Oh and don't even get me started on its fantastically satisfying gameplay.

bloop3013d ago

I have to say I was keeping my hype in check for Horizon, just judging by the killzone games. They were solid shooters but I thought the lore, universe, characters and stories from that series were unimaginative and a bit of a bore. I was afraid HZD was going to be the same but I was so wrong. I'm about 50% through and the story so far has me absolutely hooked and I can't wait to find out what happens next. GG really knocked it out of the park in every aspect. Everything about this game is amazing.

Nodoze3013d ago

Barricade .... if true I am going to tear up with joy. Yes folks it is just THAT good. I have not had a game 'hook' me this hard in quite some time. I even attempted twice to get into The Witcher and it didn't stick (I am going to go back after HZD and explore it again)....

HZD is a welcome addition to the exclusive IP you can only get on PS. If I did not have a PS4, and I played HZD....I would BUY them both on the spot. Sony needs to bundle this game and offer a package deal. It truly is a showcase title that quite simply does not come along very often. It is a gem.

Sunny_D3013d ago

I'm glad they got help from Witcher devs and the fallout screenwriter to make their games. Always a good thing to ask for help.

Fishy Fingers3013d ago

Reassuring to the readers of your previous articles.

But I get what he's saying, sometimes you just 'click' with a game.

UCForce3013d ago

Again with that again. Well, the article is well written to be honest.

Fishy Fingers3013d ago

Again with that again? What?

Even without the broken English I'd have no idea what you're referring too.

ClayRules20123013d ago

Horizon has a world that is unlike any open word game I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing.

Guerrilla Games's, I feel like I'm on Pandora( James Cameron's Avatar ) film at times. It's utterly gorgeous, so much fun to play, and engaging to a point where sometimes, I just have to stop & just pan my camera around to believe an open world game on an "underpowered" PS4 ( according to some ) is delivering this kind of visual fidelity.

Thank you, Guerrilla & Sony!

Nodoze3013d ago

So so so true. I was being chased by one of Bellowbacks last night as I was out harvesting shards. I decided to run into a forest area for 'safety' thinking that I would be in the clear. The AI would get confused and I would be good. Um...it chased and when it encountered the trees it pushed, the trees bent, then snapped and he was right there. I was like :0 and smiled ear to ear. The AI is FANTASTIC. It truly feels like you are on a hunt.

Thank you GG!!

ClayRules20123013d ago

Haha, that sounds really intense!

The AI is smart. I've thought I'd be in the clear, many times, and wound up dying time & time again. Gotta be quick & clever. I love how this game really requires strategy.

Sony Announces Ghost of Tsushima Anime, Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn Movies

Sony is hosting its press conference at the start of CES 2025 in Las Vegas. As usual, PlayStation took the spotlight during the presentation, but not in the way you'd expect.

I can’t even imagine a helldivers 2 movie.
Hopefully they do it good

Cacabunga157d ago

Next is Horizon card game… the milking is unreal

Grilla157d ago

Yeah but with terminator style bots and the Illuminate. More potential imo.

mkis007157d ago

They better not be afraid of leaning into it hard.

S2Killinit157d ago

Im most excited for the Ghost anime.

vTuro24157d ago

I was about to say, they can just copy Starship Troopers homework and change it up a bit so the teacher won't notice.

SeTTriP156d ago

How when the game is literally inspired by a movie?

Goodguy01158d ago

Lmao, sony making more shows, films, and remasters this generation.

Lightning77158d ago

Yet let's ignore Ghost of Yotei, Intergalactic, wolverine and Santa Monica's New IP.

Yep all TV shows and remasters alright.....

Hereandthere157d ago

Ghost of Yotei looks like a ps 4 pro game at best, intergalactic only showed 4 seconds of in game footage, despite being in development for more than 4 years, wolverine might be good, Santa Monica's New IP was just for you to fill space and cover for sonys lack of 1st party games.

DarXyde157d ago

Remasters aren't games?

Didn't realize the same folks making games are also making films and shows (which Sony actually has been making before games, but ok).

Silly comment aside , Ghost of Tsushima as an anime sounds grand. Don't care too much about Horizon or Helldivers media, but it sounds cool to get more Jin.

Army_of_Darkness157d ago (Edited 157d ago )

You do realize Sony has a completely separate movies and tv series division right? They are simply catching on and actually taking advantage of their popular gaming ips

Redemption-64157d ago

Naaaaa, you are supposed to pretend they don't have a completely separate movie/TV division

Lightning77157d ago

@Here uh huh Right watch Ghost Of Yotei get the highest score on meta this year. ND doesn't miss so I expect Intergalactic to be a damn near Master piece, insomniac making Wolverine so you know they'll knock it out of the park. Santa Monica will probably announce their new IP this year and it'll be epic. It's about track record and all these studios have great track records. You wanna argue facts go ahead I'll win.

Lightning77158d ago

I was hoping for live action Ghost but an anime will be just fine.

Grilla157d ago

Last I heard the guy that made the John Wick movies was working on it.

Lightning77157d ago

Now that's gonna freakin dope.

-Foxtrot157d ago

I really hope they get the guy who played Jinn to play him in the film.

Elda157d ago

If true then there's hope.

gigoran8157d ago

out of all the titles they could have chosen, those 3 could actually make decent movies.

-Foxtrot157d ago (Edited 157d ago )

They’ve tried a Horizon series and it fell apart, what makes them think a film is going to work with a shorter run time.

I was hoping the GoT series would focus on Jinn after the main game.

S2Killinit157d ago

Im not sure about the show or why it allegedly fell apart, but the story in Horizon is pretty cool. I can see people enjoying it.

Michiel1989155d ago

they probably recorded some footage for it and now want to make a quick buck out of the remnants. You know what they say: fail once, rip your audience off.

There's too many games to choose from

No Metal geat solid 1,2,3,4?
No Resident evil?
No Silent hill?
No Midnight club 3?
No NfS Underground 2?
No Final Fantasy?
No Burnout 3?
No Dragon quest 8?
No Days gone?
No Ace combat?
No Tekken/Soul calibur?......
just from the top of my head

PS1 era was full of great RPGs, PS2 was racing generation i would pick top 200 and even that would be just a fraction.

FinalFantasyFanatic200d ago

30 is way too low over the entire history of Playstation, I just wouldn't be able to narrow it down that much, I would pick 100 at least.

Storm23200d ago

Yeah...really odd list. I get that it is personal preference and I love most of the games listed, but my list would definitely be different. I agree though, it would be incredibly difficult to come up with just 30.

lockedongamer1200d ago (Edited 200d ago )

I only picked first-party titles. Otherwise, I agree!

EDIT: Except for Days Gone, I don't get the love for it but you do you!

Chocoburger191d ago

I didn't like Days Gone either, it doesn't deserve to be on any best of list.
