Please, Just Let Me Pause My Video Game

"There’s been an awakening, one of which I can’t stand. Always-online, single-player video games not allowing me to pause the game. People like me might be a small percentage of gamers, but I often need to pause my games, for various reasons, and I can’t when playing games like The Division." -- PlayStation Enthusiast

I feel the same. I hate when I can't pause games that I'm playing alone and am not in a PvP zone.

brettnll3059d ago

It's pretty infuriating. It sounds like a dumb thing to be mad about, but it's just so damn annoying lol.

Absolutely agree! Sometimes I have to pick up the phone or listen to something someone has to say, if I can't pause my game I have to constantly watch the screen or put my console in standby mode...

And this guy on the left creeps me out, why is he staring into my soul and laughing?^^

LaWiiG3058d ago

Don't like it, don't play it. That easy. All you whiny babies.

Fishy Fingers3058d ago (Edited 3058d ago )

Or they could just let you pause as an option..? Wouldn't be a big deal and everyone's happy. Except you apparently.

Princess_Pilfer3058d ago

Depends on the game actually. Being able to pause Souls games would be a very big deal. It would mess with online, it would mess with the atmosphere, it would interrupt the flow of gameplay. The Division is an MMO, obviously you can't pause, it's an MMO. Real time strategy games are another one, if you can pause it then it isn't really real time as you can pause to consider your options before you do anything.

Shockingly, not every feature (even the most basic features) is suitable for every game.

Now if you want to complain about how crap Ubisoft is and how 80% of what they do is anti-consumer nonsense then I'm right there with you.

MRMagoo1233057d ago

@pilfer

you can pause a lot of rts games

Inzo3058d ago

And thats why the Division is failing because the so called whiny babies dont like it and dont play it.

conanlifts3058d ago

Ironically this is the most whiny post on this page.

Berenwulf3058d ago

Yeah right, you don't know that before you buy a game. There is no indication on the case that there isn't a pause option...

that is why you just do not support these type of games with money aka not buying them. and quicker as you can say "pause" they would change it. but no, lil johnny wants shootergame.

nitus103058d ago (Edited 3058d ago )

Can anyone tell me how you can pause an online multiplayer game without annoying (I am being nice here) the people who are in your avatars vicinity or actually playing with you? Of course, if the game has PVP or you are in the middle of a combat situation then you are an easy mark although I am quite sure if you explain the situation to a PvP or NPC player they will let you off the hook. 😉

Actually, there is an easy solution it's called logging out.

If you like single player games then most have the ability to be paused except for some like the Souls series and Bloodborne which do have an optional online component but you can exit the game and connect back in again exactly where you logged out although that is not advisable when you are in combat.

"People like me might be a small percentage of gamers"

I can assure you, that percentage is much much larger than you think. No game with a SP campaign should be "always online", ever.

I am in absolute agreement with the OP 👌

shinoff2183810d ago

I hate when I see single player games and see people begging for multi-player. Jeez guys it don't need to be on every game. Latest one I seen was atomic heart.

-Foxtrot809d ago

Multiplayer or even co-op

If it was always a single player game then that's how it is

Inverno809d ago

It's a trend that never really went away. For me multiplayer in a primarily SP focused game was an excuse for DLC. Then there's the mentality gamers had that adding multiplayer makes a game worth the price, otherwise it should be half price for half a game. A way of thinking devs reassured when they started adding multiplayer to their sequels. We see the same with multiplayer focused games getting SP in their sequels.

Flawlessmic809d ago

Tbh multilayer now is a way to add live service and mtx elements, very rarely does it come of well.

What single players game used to be in a lot of cases now require 3 other people for keeping to really enjoy it and I hate having to rely on others to get the maximum from a game.

Sp should be sp, if devs want to add a separate multi mode then that's fine with me, the legends addition to ghost of tshushima was fricking sick but totally separate to the main game. Sick of co op too.

Hofstaderman809d ago

I remember when certain single player games had them as included optional modes that was played on the couch. Had brilliant times with Syphon Filter and Golden Eye. Me and my bro used to used to fight over who would play as Gabe even though it was technically just a skin. Good times.

Dagexon809d ago

I didn't notice your comment before I added mine.
But good times indeed
