PS4 Boost Mode Performance - Worst Running PS4/Pro Games List

PS4 Pro Boost Mode will enhance many PS4 games, but some titles run worse. Check out the PS4 Pro Boost Mode games list to see which games are affected.

PorkMuffin3007d ago

does anybody know if Dishonored 2 will run better in boost mode?

FITgamer3007d ago

Not sure about Dishonered 2. I'm playing Dishonored remaster right now and it's been smooth so far.

PorkMuffin3007d ago

yeah I know Dishonored 1 runs better but I cant find anything about Dishonored 2 on any articles.. thanks tho

NewMonday3007d ago (Edited 3007d ago )

games with a Pro patch will not use Beast Mode

AFAIK

Bathyj3007d ago

Nice to see Beast Mode catching on.

kevnb3007d ago

Isn't it already pro patched?

PorkMuffin3007d ago

It is but only for it to run in 4k which does nothing for me, I'm using a 1080p tv and the game's not running very well so I haven't played it past chapter 2. Really hoping Boost mode can help

kevnb3007d ago (Edited 3007d ago )

boost mode will do nothing, but maybe the devs can patch the game? According to digital foundry its already better on the pro.
take from Digital Foundry:
"So here's a weird one. Dishonored 2 does offer a nice resolution boost, scaling up to 1440p resolution. However, based on our tests, this only happens when the PS4 Pro is connected to a 4K display. When hooked up to a full HD screen, native resolution settles at 1080p - so there's no super-sampling advantage here for those that don't have ultra HD televisions. It's highly strange, especially as performance seems to be identical in engine stress-points (perhaps suggesting a CPU bottleneck).

Just like the standard PS4 Pro version, Dishonored 2 operates with a 30fps cap, but adaptive sync is completely disabled, giving a perfectly v-synced presentation. Frame-rate can drop beneath 30fps - most notably during engine-driven cut-scenes and in these scenarios, the Pro does out-perform the base PS4 hardware. The performance uplift is especially noticeable in combat situations with several enemies - an area where the standard PlayStation clearly struggles."

ILostMyMind3007d ago

Good to know. No Sony exclusive in this list.

Fishy Fingers3007d ago

Expect the majority of exclusives have already been patched other than the obvious, Bloodbourne, the one needing it the most.

GHOSTxTZ3007d ago

Bloodborne runs fine on the pro

ILostMyMind3007d ago

Bloodborne runs fine on the PS4.

3007d ago
ILostMyMind3007d ago

@NiteX
I like to have what to play even if the frame falls below 30. what it was supposed to mean? That Bloodborne is bad for having frame falls?

ziggurcat3007d ago

@nitex:

"I guess if you like frames dropping a good bit below 30 it does...."

frame pacing != frames dropping.

I deserve to have my comment removed because I thought it was about games that should be improved because knack had frame rate drops and the boost mode should help

Bathyj3007d ago

Like of said before Moldy, its not your comment people dont like. Its you. It wouldnt matter what you say in a PS4 article, people with take it as negative. Is that fair? Yes and no. Its not exactly right, but its not without cause either. Character and history matter. If youre known for something you carry it around with you. Thats why that call it baggage. If you dont like it perhaps its time to reevaluate the aura you give of and what you can do about it.

But hey, Im with you, your comment didnt deserve to be taken down, you really said nothing wrong, but like I said, character and history. People know you and adjust their impression of your comments accordingly. Just like you will probably not take anything Ive said on board because well, Im Bathyj. What can you do?

Good luck man, I mean it.

rainslacker3006d ago

Considering a user like 343 Guilty Spark can make positive Sony comments now without sounding like a troll, really puts it in perspective exactly where you are when it comes to Sony comments. Even when you praise, you make it a negative.

Consider that I am probably thought the opposite of you in some Xbox articles by some Xbox fans, but I at least try to be fair, and rarely lay on the snark when it comes to criticizing MS, just to avoid the trolling.

Worst games running, lol. Funny news

Ju3007d ago (Edited 3007d ago )

Maybe a funny title. But demonstrates, that Cherny wasn't that wrong adding a PS4 compatibility switch. Can you imagine the Pro would have released without and games would crash left and right - even though those on the list don't matter much.

I had a random crash after about 1 or 2 hours in into "The Crew" and "AC Unity". Reported those. But just because runs 10 minutes doesn't mean it isn't affected, actually.

These games could easily be "blacklisted" by the OS and forced into compatibility mode, while the two above should point to some issues which the OS could maybe address when boostmode is active.

The problem with boost mode is, Sony would need to run the whole library through extensive internal QA to either address those issue or to add traps in the OS to intercept those crashes. This will cost a sh!tload of money, unfortunately. I am not sure it they want to release this in this unstable state.

TheGoodestBoi3007d ago (Edited 3007d ago )

Out of 100 games tested the following were found to have encountered issues:
Tempo the bad ass elephant
Soma
Grow Home
Slender the Arrival
I think it's fair to say these games haven't exactly set the world alight so by and large the boost mode is an excellent addition

Neonridr3007d ago

SOMA was nice, but yeah the rest I could care less for.

Phoenix763007d ago

Also the fact that boost mode is still only in beta. Small issues are expected and Improvements can be made before release.

Very pleased with how this is going

Ju3007d ago (Edited 3007d ago )

Like I said, two high profile titles crashed on me after a couple of hours in: AC Unity and The Crew. There is not much Sony can do to improve boost mode. It would actually be the devs to patch the game...but this renders the whole boost mode redundant. They might as well patch in proper Pro support in that case.

Ravenor3007d ago

Eh I've had PS4 games crash out to the homescreen on a standard PS4 and a Pro. I'm not willing to say this crashes are entirely boostmodes fault.

Ju3007d ago

I never had a crash like that before. But maybe it's unrelated. I am just saying, as tempting as this sounds, testing this is extremely hard because there can be race-conditions happening any time in the game. It it is very hard to reproduce that scenario. It runs surprisingly stable so far. Not saying that. Just that by all the excitement people underestimate the complexity of the problem. And no, crashes on a console are not acceptable.

rainslacker3006d ago

It'll likely require ongoing patches as reports come in about what games don't work as well, so Sony can analyze what isn't working well. Same way emulators get improvements really. There are millions of processes in the system, and any one of them could cause problems, but testing every one is near impossible.

Ju3006d ago (Edited 3006d ago )

But this isn't an emulation. This is most likely happening due to race conditions based on the different clock speeds. Nothing what a patch can fix - well, an app patch sure. But that would simply be a Pro patch anyhow..The app simply crashes. I can't see how the OS can fix it - unless it really triggers a bug in the OS. Well, I sent them crash reports. Maybe it helps. We'll see. Traps could possibly help, but those are most likely micro spikes, a trap will give you a noticeable framerate hickup.

Espangerish3007d ago

Add to that the fact that if you absolutely must play Tempo the badass elephant on you pro you can simply unticknthe boost mode box to avoid the issues

I'd say this is a fuss over nothing.

Sony Looking To Sell A Lot Of PS4 Pro's Come Christmas Says Jim Ryan

In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz , Sony's Jim Ryan talked a bit about the PS4 Pro and how they had underestimated its demand.

According to Pachter, the PS4 Pro sales aren't doing very good. Maybe drop the price $50 and bundle in a game since Xbox One X is coming?

thatguyhayat2874d ago

Patcher baffles himself sometimes. Ps4 pro is doing really well

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen2873d ago

Agreed. If 1 in 4 PS4's being sold is a Pro anything Pachter says about PS4 Pro sales numbers should be completely ignored.

bigmalky2873d ago

You can buy a PS4 Pro, with Horizon and Wipeout for £350 in the UK at the minute. Basically, you're getting the console for £280... I'd say that's a bargain. Why do people keep asking for another £50/$50 off when plenty of places do bundle deals with great prices?

Ju2874d ago

I have the feeling there is a price cut coming for the holidays.

LamerTamer2874d ago

They will have a hard time with X1X out.

bigmalky2873d ago

No they won't. Most parents will probably go for the cheaper option for Christmas presents. Most gamers that were waiting for a price for XoX, unless they're die hard Microsoft fans or spec junkies, will see that Sony have a cheaper option with huge exclusives coming in the new year, along with third party titles that will probably look little different to their XoX counterparts.

It's amazing how biased opinions seem to speak for the entire gaming population, instead of looking at people as beings that can, and will, use logic.

Petebloodyonion2873d ago

Most parents will go for the basic version of Ps4 or Xbox1 instead of a pro or X1X.
Most parents will ask if it's play COD, FIFA or GTA since theses are the biggest sellers on both platforms.
Most parents don't have freaking clues about the exclusives coming on Xbox or PS4 just like you probably don't have a clue about exclusive deals coming on Apple music.

It's amazing how N4G hardcore gamers seem to speak for the entire gaming population, instead of looking at people as beings that can, and will, follow the herd of COD/ GTA/ FiFA.

bigmalky2873d ago (Edited 2873d ago )

@Petebloodyonion

If you read my post properly, you'll see that I said parents will go for the cheaper console. I never even mentioned whether that's the upgraded models or not.

As for the games, it was in regard to gamers wanting a console, not the parents. Totally different sentence and subject.

It's amazing how people would actually look less like idiots if they actually read an entire post, before jumping on someone's comments.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen2873d ago

If Sony drops the price of the Pro and it's $150 cheaper than the $500, checkerboarding beast, the only thing Sony will have a hard time doing is shipping Pro's to retailers.

bigmalky2873d ago

They don't need to drop the price. You can buy a Pro with one or two games in a package for £100 cheaper than an XoX with nothing on it's release.

LIGATURE2873d ago

I love ps4 but if the x gives all the multiplat games at least 1080/60 and update past multiplat games then id go for the x.but id get a switch before ither😂
