Why do unreal engine characters always look like plastic with Vaseline smothered all over them?

Take a look at Epic's Paragon, it does not have this problem. It comes down to artist skill, and very few are talented enough to make real-time characters not look like plastic.

Yeah, abstractel is right. It's poor artistic execution. It's very easy to adjust sheen in UE, the problem is that the artists for these low-budget games think the sheen looks good, but it's way overdone.

That was one of the most off-putting parts of Resident Evil 7. All the enemies were slathered in spit.

If you had gone to the article instead of just looking at the thumbnail image and actually looked at the other screenshots or watched the trailer, that wouldn't have been a question.... because the only image that looks that way is the thumbnail one.

Nope sorry. The 2D cancelled remake looked far more interesting and creepy. It's aethetics was unsettling which I think is perfect for Remothered.

Bring on the horror games!!! Resident Evil 7 had me feeling great about the game. Better than any RE game since 3. Outlast 2 coming and some others, this is turning into my favorite generation for games.

Yes that's an opinion. You're free to disagree but I still think this generation has been great. Revival of horror and JRPGs 😄

I feel the same way. RE7 feels like the "real RE 4". Best since the '96 original and Nemesis (my personal faves). Just lacks extra modes (kinda disappointed they're DLC instead of unlockables like in the PS1 games)

Mh.. I don't know, the environment could be good, but I don't really like the character models and the animations. They seem walking blocks of wood. But it's pre-alpha, so it could get better.
