Yup, I know a grip of people buying a 360 now that the price drop has happened. I recommend getting an in-store warranty just in case the worst happens you can take it back to the store and swap it out instead of waiting for a repair.

you don't need an instore warranty in england, there's a legal requirement with part of british trade act that means all electonical goods can be replaced/exchanged with proof of purchase. it's strange not many people know about it. i myself only found out about it after my dad told us...

I've gone through two Xbox 360s in the past two years. My first got the dreaded RRoD and my second, brand new and only a year old, now has a faulty DVD drive as of a week ago. My first console was under warranty, but that's not the case with my second, as it has already expired. Forking over $99 + $5 S&H to get it "repaired" won't renew my warranty, so I'm better off buying a new one for $199 just for a new 3-year warranty. If Jasper will solve all these damn issues I've had over the past couple of years, I'm willing to wait for it.

I recently had the red rings with a refurbished 360 i bought from blockbuster which was still under the six month warranty they give you.
So i took it back and they replaced it with a brand new 60gig hdmi 360 for an added cost of £50 on my part, i happily paid the money but when i got home i was very disappointed with the noise the new 60gig 360's make quieter than my refurbished model but still to noisy so now that has been sold.

If i was in your shoe's i would wait for the Jasper models to appear

i saw an elite bundle with NG2 and LO... got me thinking

the two things im concerned about are RROD (don't try to tell me it's been fixed, my friends get RROD's all the time) and that it doesn't really do much my PS3 can't do a lot better (with the exception of ingame music in every game- that's pretty appealing)

some games interest me like Fable and Ninja Gaiden, but it might suffer the same fate as my Wii.... buy for cheap, play a few decent games for a while, go back to PS3 where all my favorite games and features are....

The 360 has been around for awhile now so having a price cut is just a normal process and not a desperation move. A desperation move would be slashing prices the first few months of its launch like the ps3. The good thing is that Microsoft is still not losing money with these price cuts. The ps3 can't say that and that's why they can't follow suit.

It's still a problem, even with the warranty and the quick repair it can still happen and does. At the same time the 360 is well worth the risk and offers the best graphics so far this generation and easily the biggest well rounded game library out at the moment.

At the price they're at I think arcades are a great buy. You can easily find an hdd on ebay and upgrade it to 120 gig for much less than an elite. You'd be foolish not to buy one now if you've got the income and like gaming but don't want to sit in front of your PC any more than you already do.

The worst problem though is no matter how many different motherboards they come out with MS ignores the design oops that causes the red ring in the first place so the jasper will still have similar odds of failure.

The problem has been taken care of as far as MS admitting they were stupid and fixing them for free. I couldn't imagine sending it in though when I could just fix it myself and be playing again in an hour or two.

Have you tried to learn how to write?
There is a useful tool out there you may find helpful, It's called a dictionary. They can be found in print (Also known as a book), and if you look hard enough they have them online as well.

I should also point out that when you see a red line underneath a word, that word is spelled incorrectly. You can place your cursor over the word and right click to correct your mistake easily without the use of said dictionary. Punctuation and caps wouldn't hurt either.

Secondly, There has been 1 firmware update this month that isn't mandatory for anyone outside of Japan.

Nice article... Truth is I traded my Elite 360 for a few reasons.

First one. The HDD kept wiping itself and all my saves for no reason and MS would not replace it.

The second was basically my own view on the situation. I saw that GEars 1 went to PC. I have a decent PC. Gears 1 had aditional content as well... PC gaming is free online and I want to play gears 2 but no hurry really for me. I can wait for it to come to PC... Nothing else really intrigues me. Fable 2 I'll say it looks a little interesting but that will probably come to PC as well like every other game thats worth while. MS won't lose out on that money... I prefer mouse and keyboard to the 360 controller for FPS's and otherwise...

Hate if you want but I feel the 200 bucks would be better spent on me upgrading my PC. The 50$ for the online per year for PC and extra's like WiFi or a second controllers, HDD or charge port...

I traded in my elite and all my games (I only had like 6) and got about 400$ and all that went twoards a better PC. So in evaluating the article I would say "No, Now is not the time to buy and I never see a reason too" but thats just me. Bit Torrents are free, Gaming online ala TF2 is free on PC and yeah....

Edit: look I know there are a ton of peeps who are probably going to be offended by what I say and thats fine. Think I am a fan boy but I am not defending the PS3 or anything. I am just saying I think the PC is a better platform then the 360 with less restrictions/limitations and gives you more use/games/options and all around fun. MS can somewhat go at the last-gen consoles with it's cheapest SKU's.

I am sorry to sound like a jerk, but I have said all my life that people who spend hundreds of dollars on equipment that IS expected to fail as a result of poor craftsmanship are just plain irresponsible. I work very hard for my money and there is no way on this beautiful earth that I am going to toss my money to a pathetic, arrogant, quality-compromising company like microsoft. I love quality equipment. I am a proud owner of an iPod, Mac laptop, and PS3, and although I don't own multiple systems or a slew of electronics I make sure that I research and find the most quality piece of equipment I can afford. I don't spend hundreds of dollars buying every stinking console on the market. Just make the right choice the first time around and your wallet will thank you for it later. People, please don't buy another company's crappy workmanship and pay for their warranty. Let's show these companies that they need to get their act in gear and start taking pride in their products.

I owned a 60gig 360 for a week then it was sold purely on the fact of it was to noisy, i was £20 out of pocket in the process so it wasn't to bad.

If you can't afford or don't want one that's your decision, but the reason to own multiple consoles is to have access to exclusives. I want to be able to play GeoW2, Halo3, etc. along with MGS4, Uncharted, etc.

£129.99 does sound like a fantastic price, however i recently sold my brand new 60gig 360 at the right time it seems as i was still very disappointed with the noise the supposed new revision of the 360 made, my 40gig (now 320gig) ps3 is totally silent in comparison
Once the Jasper revision hits and if and i stress "if" this revision is quieter i will certainly be dipping my toes in the undoubted delights the 360 has to offer once again.

For the record, I've also got a PS3 60GB which I have bought on launch day, so the PS3 will keep me busy, however, I am crazy for achievements, and prefer the Xbox 360 for this single reason. The article may be slightly misinterpreted. It isn't opposed to the Xbox 360 at all, in fact, its closing statement reads:

"The price cuts are hugely appealing, and the Xbox 360 in our opinion does offer great value for money. However, with a new-and-improved console just around the corner, the right time to buy could be just a few weeks away."

It's simply reminding customers that an improved Xbox 360 isn't far off.

You based your opinion of the Xbox solely on Windows 95 and Millennium? Wow. Simply wow. You've heard of XP or even Windows 98, right? Xbox has its roots in Windows 2000, though it's so heavily modified and stripped down (like 95%) that it couldn't even be considered Windows 2000. It's its own custom OS. It in no way comes close to Windows 95 or Millennium.

Once again, Xbox 360 doesn't use anything like Vista as its OS. In fact, the Xbox 360 started with the Xbox OS the same way the Xbox started with Windows 2000. They cut, added, and changed it in both large and small ways. It's now quite different from the Xbox OS, which was itself quite different from Windows 2000. And if Jasper has anything to say about it, the RROD problem ISN'T here to stay. Hopefully.

They ARE angry. But Xbox 360 owners love their games just as much as the next person. Is the console currently built like ass? Yes, it is. I think the PS3 is built 100x better. But I have numerous friends I play with on LIVE and I personally enjoy the library of games. And, as mentioned above, with the Jasper model hitting retail stores this month, if not already, hopefully the RROD and faulty DVD drives are a thing of the past.

the 360 is the worse gaming system i've ever owned. It has Live ,but after a few red lights I should've bought a wii. My $350 went to straight junk, and that's sad when a man has to put up 3 C notes and get raggedy ass junk. I don't even play it as much because I'm afraid it's going to break. My PS3 is getting all the love. I demand quality and a raggedy ass warranty isn't going to isn't going to cover the hassle. I also hat the MS tech support when they try and tell you to go through all the steps to prove it's 3 red lights. What crap.
