Gabe Newell confirms that Valve is working on unannounced games powered by Source 2 Engine

In his latest Reddit AMA, Gabe Newell confirmed that Valve is currently working on some unannounced products/games.

Maybe Overwatch has inspired them and they see it as a great trendy new type of fps again but I doubt it and that they would just make something new

Is that a sign that a sequel ending in 3 will be announced? Half Life, Left 4 Dead, or Portal could really use a 3 at the ends of their titles. Hell, it's been so long for Half Life even a reboot would be welcome at this point!

Valve seem to have directed all there effort into building Steam over the recent years (rightly so) but they need to get back to making some games. Everything they ship is gold, just too few and far between. I'd happily take any of their existing franchises or even a new IP, just give us something!

Yeah it would be pretty hilarious if they have some type of intro at the beginning of the game summarizing the events of HL3 as if it already came out, or even more hilarious if Gabe attends a convention talking about the success of HL3 and how it ended on a cliffhanger and showing some clips to show the graphical and gameplay differences between 3 and 4, that would make peoples heads explode especially the people on r/glitchinthematrix

Ironically, they skipped 3 by making it into a 3 part episode... then made only two of the 3 episodes. What's wrong with the number 3, Mr. Newell?

They would be skipping HL2 Ep3 also. I'll be seriously annoyed if they cave to all the people asking for HL3 and HL2s story is left unfinished.

This is similar to all the people that were asking for RDR2. Now R* has actually caved and we are probably going to be stuck playing some half baked continuation story as JMs son in the same location rather than a completely new location/story as it should have been.

Valve personnel can't count more than 2 so I doubt it's gonna be any games with titles more than 2 in it. Best guess are sequels of games not done before.

Wow. I read the story and it's hard to imagine Gabe regrets making Half-Life. It's one of the most successful games ever.

Notch also regretted making Minecraft. This must be like a rich person thing. "Oh gosh darnit. I did something successful. Now I'm rich and I hate that thing which made me successful. Horrible thing that made me rich, I hate you so much!"

That is not what he said at all.

He said that he has a hard time enjoying the experience of playing that game because it reminds him of all the things he regret about how the game turned out.

Thats just how it is with any artistic product. You will always wonder how it would have turned out had you done something different. Some people can let it lie more than others. It is a perfectly normal feeling either way.

Lord GabeN knows even as a God, he won't be able to make a Half Life 3 that will be able to match up with people's large expectations no matter how good it is. So it's probably Left for Dead 3 and a new IP
