too bad Rockstar never uses a 3rd party engine. besides, looks aren't everything in a Rockstar game...

Perjoss3069d ago

GTA4 had frame rate issues on last gen consoles but GTA5 looks and plays great, I have no complaints about the current engine at all, and hopefully RDR2 and GTA6 will be awesome too.

yeahokwhatever3069d ago

I disagree in that I feel GTA5's engine should be targeting 60fps on current gen consoles. Other than that, I'm OK with it. I definitely prefer it to UE4.

Perjoss3069d ago

60 FPS for an impressive open world? It's possible but they would have to sacrifice a lot of stuff like draw distance or model detail and texture or shadow quality.

AcidDvl3069d ago

Bad? Do you think having an engine that adapts perfectly to what they want to achieve is a bad thing?
After all it's their engine and they build it around Rockstar's DNA.

Just for the sake of argument:
Rocksteady had to heavily mod the Unreal engine for Batman Arkham Knight.

Utalkin2me3069d ago

Lol and another "here is what x looks like in the UE4". Here is what a dog turd looks like in UE4, here is what muddy boots like in UE4, here is what a lipstick on pig looks like in UE4.

Crazyglues3069d ago

Garbage... Why would RockStar use that engine when there Game engine is a Monster... Have you seen the game on PC..

Have you seen the Mods on PC, the Mods make it look ten times better then that Unreal Engine ever could and that's only because rockstars engine is a complete beast already.. They don't need a 3rd party engine..

Looks nice, but looks too similar to Watch Dogs 2 imo.

jeenyus3069d ago

It looks somewhat crappier. Too colorful, like a bs kiddy mod.

DARK WITNESS3069d ago

iam just wondering.... what open world game has come out on UE4 that does half the stuff that gta does in the rage engine?

R* use their own engine for good reason I believe.

Days Gone will be using Unreal Engine 4 and its going to be open world

AcidDvl3069d ago

Every one would love to have their own engine to cater to their needs, but unfortunately not every single studio has the chance to do so (lack of money/time/talent). So, they "settle" with 3rd party engine to build their games and often have to improvise certain specific aspects of the game and also often need to restrict mechanics or fundamentals in order to make it work with an engine that is not build for that specific types of games, but rather is build to cater so several genres/types of games.

GTA V for example, is far more complex in with his architecture and far superior technically.
While Days Gone looks good, it's coming from a studio that has been working of PSP and Vita titles, so it doesn't really have the same "needs" a title like GTA has.

Wow! That is badass. WB needs to make this happen now.

WoodsRatesGames1500d ago

Right? Thanks for checking it out!

Fans??? This is done by one person

WoodsRatesGames1499d ago

Someone else was commissioned to do the music and another person modelled the batmobile. Links to all involved are included in the article.

Gaming4Life19811499d ago

They should have been made a batman game for the best batman movie. This looks amazing and now I must watch the movie.

Am I crazy or is there an Unreal Engine 5 now? Why promote old tech?

waverider1519d ago

I really dont understand either? isnt the Unreal Engine 5 already available for studios? arent they already working with it?

masterfox1519d ago

UE5 Is for PS5 only, deal with it! :D

***runs away from this thread with pride!**

Tacoboto1519d ago

UE5 is not released yet and developers for years will still make UE4 games because that's where their tools and customizations are.

Mortal Kombat still uses UE3. Mass Effect Legendary Edition is also still UE3.

Magog1519d ago

That more of an embarrassing indictment of those devs than a reason to promote old software.

Tacoboto1519d ago

Embarrassing indictment? You know nothing of software development then.

Spenok1519d ago (Edited 1519d ago )

Because a ridiculous amount of the industry still uses 4, and because no, 5 is not out yet. They said it would launch later this year.

AuraAbjure1519d ago

Companies still use Unreal Engine 3.

Really impressive tech but I don’t even notice all of these benefits in real life, never mind being chased by zombies in a video game. Rather devote resources to resolution and frame rate.

Magog1519d ago

If you suddenly stopped casting reflections in a mirror I think you would notice.

Edit: i misread this.

Yes after seeing the Unreal 5 ps5 reveal, I thought that's where we were heading. But saying that I have read various articles that suggest its easy for developers to still work on Unreal 4 and carry everything over to Unreal 5 when needed, we shall see.
