Interesting how this sequel feels more of the same yet the yearly CoD and sports games get high reviews and little to no negativity from the same site... to each their own is what I always say

RpgSama3089d ago (Edited 3089d ago )

As someone who hasn't actually played Splatoon, but has seen lots of promotional videos, commercials, trailers of the original throughout the years, I saw the trailer for this one and at least for me, it looks exactly the same, someone who has played it a lot can immediately see new weapons, characters and stages I guess, but from the outside looking in, it looks the same game.

I don't play COD or Battlefield games, but you can see the difference when one of them is WW2 and the next one is Super futuristic, even without playing them you know they are not the same game, that I have no interest in playing any of them it's another thing, but I can differentiate them

Rude-ro3088d ago

Madden, fifa, MLB the show, etc etc etc?

RpgSama3088d ago (Edited 3088d ago )

@Rude-ro

Those are yearly sport titles, So I fail to see your point, and yes, those games change next to nothing too, it's just a $60 roster update, that's why they have a year next to the title, so you can differentiate them, because if not, no one would know the difference, just like Splatoon 2, without the 2, it's just the same game, but on Switch.

And just so you know, I don't buy them, never have.

@CocoaBrother By that logic, you should love Call of Duty.

CocoaBrother3088d ago

How did you come up with that conclusion?
Every year, Call of Duty and EA sports games get high marks even though each iteration is remotely the same as the earlier installment, especially the sports games. KingCosmic's excuse of having different teams working on the same franchise makes it okay to keep churning them out? As with the yearly sports games needing updates cause of new rosters; has EA ever tried to just update the roster within the game instead of releasing a new one every year? Seems reasonable in my opinion if possible since they can easily take people off the roster with an update.

And I am not defending Splatoon 2; I'm currently not interested in the game personally until I see more about it and what it has to offer; however, for a mainstream gaming website to make an article like this yet continue giving the yearly released games high marks with no articles like this for them is baffling to me. That is all I pointed out.

The real downgrade for this sequel though? Paying for online. It is not right for any company to charge for online.

Vhampir3089d ago

"Can't spell ignorant"....you know the rest.

I played some splatoon today, more of the same with improvements is a great thing.

TheDreamCorridor3088d ago

They're ignorant but you haven't even played Splatoon 2?

Idiot.

rainslacker3088d ago

Yeah, seems that most people prefer more the same from a sequel. Reasonable people want the same to be improved.

Can't see why it's a con that it's more the same. Splatoon was very highly received, and considered one of Nintendo's best new IP's this gen.

-Foxtrot3089d ago

It's basically a port with a number 2 slapped on the end

RpgSama3089d ago

Exactly, just like Mario Kart 8, but at least they're not putting 9 in the end.

They added a few things to the original game and put the 2, it looks exactly the same to me, exactly the same and I consider myself very gaming conscious.

-Foxtrot3089d ago

Maybe they thought

"Shit we can't do this twice...I know it's less obvious if a new IP like Splatoon gets a sequel which hardly changes rather then have Mario Kart do it"

Gemmol3088d ago

Mario Kart 8 deluxe a big update, over 16 tracks, they change the way the game play you can hold more than 1 item, added more battle stages even including the one stage we all asked for before, more characters, 8 people with Switches can play together local wireless zero lag, and still more stuff I can't remember.......its not something small, it could of been a whole new game, and this time got it 1080p with 60 frames......and undocked with 720p with 60 frames...........Nintendo not like the company you love they actually put a lot of effort in a title if they bringing it over to another platform

Big_Game_Hunters3088d ago (Edited 3088d ago )

A port with Completely different maps, game modes, weapons and Single player, Interesting.

generic-user-name3089d ago

"More of the same"

That should have been the tag line for the whole switch reveal.

FunAndGun3089d ago

damn, shots fired!

That was just nasty.

Darkfist_Flames3089d ago

but this time you have to pay for online multiplayer, so thats something xD.

Rude-ro3088d ago (Edited 3088d ago )

And Xbox too!!
Halo, forza, cod timed exclusive, fable

Dumpling3089d ago

except it has a LOT of new content and they hinted an obviously new story mode. This isnt a port, its Splatoon 2 and it showed.

RpgSama3089d ago

As someone who has never played Splatoon, how did it show it wasn't a port with extra bells and whistles like what they did with MK8?, they showed a new weapon, that could have been as easily added in as something extras for the fans, just how the added a LOT to the original game, a new stage? the same.

The best example comes from the same Nintendo, Mario Kart 8 is a highly improved version of the WiiU game, they added quite a lot, but they are still calling it the same game, 'cause it is, and I respect that.

Dumpling3088d ago

they showed new stages, way upgraded versions of old stages(more assets and things that make for interesting platforming) new Special moves(they showed like 5 different ones all great and unique) new weapon type that adds a big twist to the game and old weapon types have new features, new gear, they added hair customization(looked to me like about 10 hairstyles just from the trailer. the first one didnt have any at all). First game didnt have the possibility to swap pants as an individual gear(splatoon 2 has it). They showed clips of what will be the new story mode. the main hub is new. Thats some of the things i could tell from watching the trailer.

-Foxtrot3089d ago

They shouldn't be hinting...at this point they should be showing

It's a port with some extra DLC like Mario Kart 8

Dumpling3088d ago

@-Foxtrot. dude, they showed clips of the story mode. this was their reveal trailer, expect an in depth Story trailer very soon since they did the exact same thing for the first game. (A separate story trailer and one for the multiplayer aspect). Its a new game, has a new single player story mode, new features, new maps, weapons, gear etc. Saying its a port is like calling black ops 2 a port of black ops 1.

'Splatoon 3’s' Inkopolis DLC Might Be Nostalgic, But It’s Totally Shallow

o matter what the reasoning is behind Splatoon 3’s lack of content and substance in the first half of its paid expansion, Wave 1: Inkopolis is certainly not worth any fan’s money and should have always been viewed as a small bonus to tide fans off from what’s still to come.
