Nomura Says Final Fantasy VII Remake And Kingdom Hearts III’s Releases Are Still A While Away

During an interview featured in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine, Tetsuya Nomura shared a few words on Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts III.

"The release of these titles will still be a while. However, we have many titles releasing this year, and we hope you look forward to any ‘surprises’.”

The two games will most likely see a 2018 release date.

I wonder what he means by surprises. I hope we see another Remake project announced from Square. Or a sequel for their older games like Vagrant Story or Parasite Eve.

Also I have a hunch they might reveal FFX - 3 at e3 this year.

they rushed out FFXV, and now they're NOT rushing out FFVIIR just to meet an arbitrary anniversary date?!?!?!

It would have been nice if they could meet it, but i'm alright with it if they are trying to do it right and not rush it out just because it's 20 years since FF7 came out. It's being broken up into multiple releases anyways so it's not like you'd get the full game on the anniversary.

Some of the locations and assets will be transfering over to each episode, so while the first one may take 3 years or so, they will be saving time and money on the next ones when everyon returns to Midgar for example, and not having to re-do cloud and everyone for each episode

Square Enix has been known to Market their games long-term and Suzuki used the outlet to Market shenmue 3 so he could get funding.

I don't think either of those games were simply announced because of "Microsoft" as it doesn't really make any sense unless you care to actually explain your reasoning.

It's nothing to explain the announcements were used as momentum and Sony was and still is the best platform to broadcast an announcement to generate hype and completely destroy anything Microsoft showed at its conference. IF MICROSOFT WAS SMART. They would push their conference back behind Sonys instead of going first so they could react accordingly. Especially since they seem to ONLY use E3 as an outlet to show games. If you seriously expected the FF7R to release at any point in the last 2 years you're a fool. And both companies are KNOWN to react to each other's E3 performances.

Yes, but Sony does not own shenmue 3 or Final Fantasy 7 I'm sorry but those games were always likely going to be announced regardless if it was on Sony's stage or elsewhere.

That does not mean that those announcements were created simply in spite of Microsoft.

Those announcements were done because clearly Square Enix wanted to Market Final Fantasy 7 and Suzuki wanted shenmue 3 to start funding.

Nothing to do with Microsoft bud.

So yes sure being on the Sony stage might have had something to do with Sony clearly competing with Microsoft but at some point you need to understand Sony's job goes beyond simply competing with Microsoft they still actually have to sell their damn platform.

That's like saying that every time McDonald's makes a new sandwich it's only to directly compete with Burger King...

Yes, they are competing with other companies but they still actually need to compete with themselves and continue producing quality content.

The move makes sense for Sony to do since you're close with square, butt I do not agree that the announcements were solely made based on some sort of spite with Microsoft because those announcements would have been made regardless.

Sony does not own Final Fantasy 7 or shenmue 3 they cannot force these companies to announce anything they don't want to.

I'm sorry your emotional over this but it's not against the law for them to Market a title long-term, this is an extremely lofty and expensive Endeavor and they clearly need the support from their investors. FF7R probably the most requested this side of Half Life 3. If you DON'T think Sony would use that medium to push units despite it being a 3rd party which they've attained exclusive console rights to you're dead wrong. Your logic makes no sense. Microsoft had nothing to do with those announcements. FFVII Remake and Shenmue 3 have been topics discussed by gamers from all console and PC enthusiasts for over 15 years.

If anything Sony wanted to get an edge on grabbing hardcore fans of both franchises who have been eager to see them. It wasn't about Sony stealing Microsoft thunder,it was about generating their own thunder.
