Microsoft Is Already Trying To Delete Scalebound From Existence

Earlier today, it was confirmed that Platinum Games and Microsoft Studio’s Scalebound was cancelled. This was somewhat surprising as it’s important to remember that we saw the game just 6 months ago at E3 2016.

Microsoft cancelling and trying to erase certain games just makes their "Greatest Games Lineup in Xbox History" that much more cringeworthy

naruga3093d ago (Edited 3093d ago )

why their doing this ..they can keep the hype for audience with old gameplay videos no matter the cease of development (see TLG , Agent etc)....also maybe this indicates that Scalebound goes free as IP/game and most probably someone Sony /Ninty will snatch it (hands crossed )....it will be stupid for platinum to ditch so much work for nothing

darthv723093d ago

If platinum cant transition this game to another platform then I'm all for them making a sequel to wonderful 101. Call it wonderful 102 or something catchy.

Godmars2903093d ago

What, "Here are all the games that we don't and never will have but our library is still the best in 'Xbox' History"?

mcstorm3093d ago

I'm with Darthv72 on this love a new Wonderful101 2 on the switch. But also for all the people jumping on MS back for killing this game did any of you play it? No matter what MS do you always point out the - from it. Who is to say the game was a mess and because of this they killed it instead of wasting gamers £. How many broken/poor/unfinished games have we had this gen? If there was more quality control I'm up for that. It is what it is get over it we have plenty more games on the way.

neoandrew3092d ago (Edited 3092d ago )

Nope, it doesn't work like that, m$ has paid for that work even if it is cancelled, so if someone wants to snatch it, they will need to pay m$ if they want to sell it, but if m$ is not lying, no one will want to pay for this if there were major problems with it.

Basically platinum is not the owner of that work, it is not their property.

What was Scalebound? I never heard of the game.

StarElite3093d ago

What's a Scalebound? Is it a new Halo game?

fromchildren3093d ago

What do you mean you haven't heard, everyone knows about this game
You know, you play as this muscular guy by the name of Master Chief and he shoots aliens and has a half naked holographic lady AI thing as his Navigator guide.

and you go pew pew pew

how can you say you haven't heard of it??

PapaBop3093d ago

^^^ But but is he rocking those beats headphones? How am I supposed to have heard of him if he isn't hip enough for my new age millennial brain?

Rimeskeem3093d ago

It's basically a Halo with dragons in it.

TXIDarkAvenger3092d ago

A slow version of DMC with a dragon.

Looked bad before but all of a sudden people think it was going to be the greatest thing ever.

What's cringe worthy is your stupidity. Of course I wanted the game to come out, but crying over deleted videos (marketing videos) for a game that isn't coming out? Get over yourself.

Microsoft canceled a game. Therefor they don't want to market it on their social media channels. So they remove it. Would be pretty stupid they canceled the game but left a bunch of trailers up for it, don't you think? But I can already smell the fanboy, I don't expect logic to do a thing.

Erase a game. It isn't being made, of course they aren't going to market it. Use your head.

Sparta073093d ago

Dude calm down...
😂 someone is hurt.

Razzer3093d ago (Edited 3093d ago )

lol.....life doesn't come with a backspace key. They going to delete past E3s as well?

frostypants3092d ago (Edited 3092d ago )

@Razzer: "life doesn't come with a backspace key. They going to delete past E3s as well?"

So they should waste bandwidth leaving promotional materials up for a game that will never exist? I'm really failing to understand the rationale, here. Hell, I'm not even sure they'd be legally allowed to leave it up, since it's the developer's work and MS no longer is buying it from them.

Nilla_Nate3093d ago

Microsoft itself is cringeworthy. They're like the kid in school that constantly seeks approval and blows it.

boomtube19873093d ago

Trying to delete it from existence is funny but to be honest. This type of Japanese games are NOT what most Xbox gamers will play. It certainly will not help sales of Xbox in Japan either. Xbox since the original has always been a Shooter, racing and fighting gamers console. Japanese oriented games just wont sell on Xbox. So its probably smart to invest in newer IP's such which is perhaps a shooter.

Angeljuice3092d ago

Yep, lack of diversity on Xbox is a great, just give them another shooter, and if that fails, another shooter.

Xbox is for shooting, racing and fighting?
More like shooting, shooting, shooting, Forza, shooting and Killer Instinct.

How dare they try and give you a new experience? Kill it off (and good riddance).

boomtube19873092d ago

@Angeljuice because that is what Xbox is...Shooter, racing and fighting. This is why Xbox has always been successful in markets where these franchise matters. Xbox controllers were made for racing and shooters from day 1. If they arent those kart games, Japanese market cant stand Racing and shooters...especially shooters. MS have tried to diversify but they have failed. Work what best works for you. It always worked for apple. I think vast majority of Xbox owners like 90% plus of them....will play Shooters, fighting, racing and sports game. Thats is the way it is.

SaveFerris3093d ago

MS could salvage this by getting Tomonobu Itagaki, Suda51, Taro Yoko, Koji Igarashi, and Hideki Kamiya (when he recovers), to form a super studio to develop games exclusively for the Scorpio. j/k

naruga3093d ago (Edited 3093d ago )

you forgot to add Suhei Yoshida and Kaz hirai to direct their console division altogether :p

SaveFerris3093d ago

Actually, they missed a trick not hiring Ken Kutaragi before Scorpio was announced.

Critic4l_Strik33092d ago

Hahaha that actually made me lol. Thanks :)

Angeljuice3092d ago

They missed a trick by not getting him to design the thing. Can you imagine how Krazy it would be?

Gamist2dot03093d ago

Man, sounds like a huge dispute over the weekend that ended in a horrible breakup. Like a divorce/breakup or something.

rdgneoz33093d ago

Curious if it had anything to do with the multiplayer part of it. They showed a lot of single player for that game, but only a little bit for the multiplayer. If they were having trouble with the 4 player co-op part (which MS was always bringing up) and Platinum wanted to changed that a bit, that could have lead to the breakup.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3093d ago (Edited 3093d ago )

Don't work with Platinum Games if you don't want to follow through.

Every game they made this gen aside from Bayonetta 2, Star Fox Zero and The Wonderful 101 and so Nier: Automata has just been Microsoft and Activision trying to make bank off them. Not trying to make a quality game.

RedPill863093d ago

Platinum games makes AA games. They tried a AAA game with a AAA budget. It isn't Microsoft's fault that they likely bit off more than they could chew and simply couldn't deliver. Of course we all wanted it to come out, but some people and some teams just aren't suited for certain tasks. Blaming the publisher when they probably aren't even to blame.

Worse? We have zero evidence for anything. Just assumptions. Some based off of nothing, like yours (wah, I hate Microsoft. We get it, go cry to mom) and mine. Based on the developers history and employees taking on a rather large project by comparison to what they normally do.

rdgneoz33093d ago

"They tried a AAA game with a AAA budget. It isn't Microsoft's fault that they likely bit off more than they could chew and simply couldn't deliver."

And yet Nier: Automata already has a demo out (which people are loving) and is coming out soon, after having been announced a while after Scalebound... Placing all the blame on Platinum would be wrong, seeing as Sony let them roam free and Automata is looking like it'll be amazing when it comes out in a short time.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3093d ago

@rdgneoz3
Yeah but Nier: Automata is Square Enix.

rocketpanda3093d ago

@OtakuDJK1NG-Rory
"Yeah but Nier: Automata is Square Enix."

Yeah but what exactly? What a non-statement.

Square Enix is only the publisher. Like any other Platinum game, they are all developed by Platinum but published by other major 1st party or 3rd party publishers.

lodossrage3093d ago

yeah I have to agree with rocketpanda on this

You can't sit here and say they bit off more than they can chew when they have Nier Automata coming out looking like one of the best games this year.

And Otaku, just because Square is the publisher of Nier means nothing. Microsoft, a financially bigger company was the publisher for Scalebound. So even if it was an excuse (which it's not), it would make Microsoft look REALLY bad.

trooper_3093d ago

Stop making excuses.

Seriously.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3093d ago

Yall misunderstood.

I was saying it's Square Enix game because Sony has nothing to do with Nier. That why I made that comment it has nothing to who to blame.

notachance3092d ago (Edited 3092d ago )

you never read what happened between Phantom Dust's ex-developer and MS that lead to the project being indefinitely on-hold?

You said it's us making empty assumption, but if you're really commenting based on company's history it's actually MS's side that's shady, FANBOY.
Go on, you can look at some insider's twitter that's circulating around the sites about who's actually in fault about this cancellation, FANBOY.

you're the one actually making empty assumption without checking up the facts on BOTH SIDES FANBOY

Look up @Adsinjapan on twitter. Seems he has some inside info on what went down. Doesnt seem like Platinums fault. Hopefully the story will get out.

Next they gonna delete Platinum Games from existence...then Crackdown...and shortly after their fanbase lol!

Hideki Kamiya wants to revive Scalebound: 'Let's do it, Phil'

Hideki Kamiya is still interested in developing Scalebound, after the PlatinumGames and Microsoft action game was cancelled back in 2017.

ZwVw118d ago

He's been begging for the past three years. That ship has long sailed. Besides, Phil's a fake. When's the last time he delivered on a game the fans asked for? Still waiting on him to greenlight KI4.

InUrFoxHole117d ago

@8bit
Yeah I mentioned that below. Although in comparison concord was a bigger failure.

MetroidFREAK21118d ago

I mean I'm all for it... I'd buy it for PS5 since Xbox is doing these multiplatform releases now

MetroidFREAK21117d ago

Well, I vastly prefer physical versions of games, and I can't do that with my Series S... sooooooo assume what you will

Lexreborn2118d ago

Scalebound was my reasoning for buying and Xbox one. Legit my biggest let down last gen

raWfodog117d ago

Same here. That was going to be the game I'd buy a Xbox One for back in the day. It'd be good if they did revive it and improve on what they had at the time.

Chocoburger118d ago

Seems odd to be asking for it now that he left Platinum Games. He'll be busy with Okami 2 for a number of years, does he expect to develop the game at Clovers studio now? Would they be picking up where they left off, or starting over again? Any of the previous team members, or just him?

I doubt Phil would fund it again, but if so, then that would be good news, also fund a new Banjo as well as Conker games while you're at it. I miss Conker!

Michiel1989118d ago

doesn't seem odd at all, he'd want work and that game even though it suffered some bad press with the cancellation and stuff is still something that people want to see (i think)

Cancelled Games That Still Upsetti My Spaghetti

As a wise man once said: what be will, be will, and sometimes games just get canceled, whether it’s due to publisher meddling, a lack of funds or the creative vision simply not panning out.

Eight Days for me

Really would have enjoyed a buddy cop game with a Lethal Weapon like tone.

helicoptergirl168d ago

The only one that really bothered me was when Sony wouldn't fund Days Gone 2. That announcement made me literally feel nauseous. I felt sick in the guts. That's the first time Sony had done something that actually physically hurt me lol. I'm still bummed that there won't be a Days Gone 2.

I would have loved the getaway 3! The original is still one of my favourite PS2 titles

Canceled Video Games That Still Hurt The Most

The cancellation of Rainbow Six Patriots, Alice Asylum, and Scalebound, among others, have hit players and fans like a truck over time.

Chocoburger343d ago

Advent Rising was planned to be a trilogy, and we never got parts 2 and 3.

Also wish THPS 10 was never canceled back in 2008. They were releasing the games at too fast a pace and just needed to slow it down instead of abandon the series entirely to make endless Guitar Hero games.

Stupid Activision executives.

RaidenBlack341d ago

My biggest "disappointment" for me, will always be Kojima's original MGS Rising from E3 2010.
The reveal trailer will always top my Gaming Expo highlights list, followed by MGS5 Ground Zeroes reveal at PAX 2013 and God of War reveal at E3 2016.
It looked soo good and cool. My heart sank when the whole Platinum's Revengeance thing got announced.
My 2nd disappointment is another Kojima, the Silent Hills.
3rd is tie b/w Rainbow 6: Patriots and the original Ghost Recon Future Soldier 2010 version.
4th is Unreal Tournament 4/2014
5th is Half Life Return to Ravenholm
(Dis)Honorable mentions: Delta Force Angel Falls, Brothers in Arms: Furious 4, Fallout Van Buren, Capcom's Deep Down, Original Duke Nukem Forever 2001 version, Prey 2, Command & Conquer: Generals 2, Timesplitters 4, Alice: Asylum, Mercenaries 3, KOTOR3, Star Wars 1313, StarCraft: Ghost, Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun, Whore of the Orient, Fable Legends, Star Wars Project Ragtag and maybe Agent?
Half Life 2 Episode 3 should top my list, but I still believe it'll happen. You know what might break the gaming internet and steal some of GTA 6's thunder? If Valve just posts '3' in any of their social account.

Chocoburger341d ago

I love Rising Revengeance, but I would have loved to see MGS: Rising, where we got to see Raiden's body destroyed at Area 51, and play some portions of MGS 4 from Raiden's perspective.

Good pick.

rlow1341d ago

Did you see play Advent Rising? If so, what did you think of it?

Chocoburger341d ago

Yes I played it long ago. Its kind of like Mass Effect, years before Mass Effect. You have to make choices which permanently affects the story.

Near the end of the game you have a bunch of super power abilities, I remember a shockwave stomp attack which wrecked enemies.

It was rushed out unpolished, so it had a lot of framerate issues, but I did end up having fun with it. Been over 15 years since I played it, so my memory is fuzzy, but I do remember I was looking forward to a sequel which never came.

XiNatsuDragnel343d ago

We need scalebound, Alice asylum, rainbow 6 patriots, battlefront 3, and half life episode 3 plz 🙏 if not official devs, fans make those games a reality do what cd project red dev said I have to look up the article but if something can't happen themselves then it's up to the fans to make it ourselves.

Relientk77342d ago

I played Alice: Madness Returns a couple years ago and it blew me away. What an amazing game and it still holds up. When EA said no to Alice Asylum I was so mad. EA also said something like "Alice is an important IP to us" Yeah, right an important IP that you do nothing with. License it out so we can get that 3rd game from American McGee.

INMATEofARKHAM342d ago

Interesting and pretty solid list but I would day it's Star Wars 1313 that hurts the most in terms of Star War games.

DaReapa342d ago

Honorable mentions go to Eight Days, Agent, and Whore of the Orient to name a few.

Deeeeznuuuts341d ago

All of them! But none more than Agent for me, how good a rockstar espionage game could have been! 😭
The getaway too!
