Why Project Scorpio Is Going To Outsell The PS4 Pro

It's obviously going to have a few solid months, especially if they start pre-orders after E3. Though if it's priced higher than $399 I don't think it'll provide even close to the boost the XB1 S did them. It's still the same system playing the same games.

secondly sony has not said hard numbers of how the pro is actually selling. the slim is outselling the ps4 pro. microsoft will likely keep hiding numbers as well. at least sony gives updates on hardware sales but they dont seem like they want to break those numbers down to slim and pro models.

Personally I think people should wait for the price before making predictions. I wouldn't think that's too prudent. You'll just have to hope that there's enough of them and hope that it'll snag customers from other platforms including pc.

I agree with Overload. How can we speculate Scorpio sales when we still don't even know the price, features, games, or even what it looks like? All we have is a video of random MS engineers saying "it's gonna be a beast and it's coming in December. If the super cheap X1 can't outsell the PS4Pro then how will a premium console with a dwindling fan-base and exclusives outsell it?

Also, to the people saying "developers are going to program more games on Scorpio because it's more powerful" are dead wrong because developers program games that have the higher install base, not because another system is slightly more powerful. The Xbox camp, for this entire generation, have been saying that FPS, resolution, and power don't matter, but now all of a sudden this magical "Scorpio" is going to be the be all end all of console. Because the Scorpio is part of the Xbox One family and the Pro is part of the PS4 family. Therefore sales should be lumped together when comparing the two.

At least that's the philosophy that both Microsoft and Sony have when it comes to announcing sales or MAUs.

Yeah I guess. The Xbox gamers are clawing for any version of Xbox to eek out a victory. Although that one looks bleak too. Heck it's hard to run the table on all versions of PS4 beating all versions of Xbox. I will say it happens anyway. If Pro does get outsold by Scorpio so what? The overall console sales of all console versions won't be changed one bit by that. PS4 will still be dominating no matter what the Scorpio does compared to the Pro.

It won't matter as Sony won't release separate figures. They said the Pro would sit alongside the PS4, which means they will count all sales as one to back up their statement. Microsoft on the other hand will need all kinds of figures to promote their console. The trouble is, none of them are likely to get near the PS4 sales especially with the games being released.
Also remember, by the time the Scorpio release Sony are going to knock the price down of the Pro. Personally, I think the Scorpio is fighting itself (becasue no one knows were it stands in MS world), will be interesting to see if it can win that fight.

I'm happy for you if you really do break that much news, but around these parts, you are known more for your trash click bait and silly poorly written and researched opinion pieces.

But you tend to reap what you sew, and most people won't actually give you credit where it's deserved. Just look at Gaming Bolt. They have plenty of great interviews, they just ruin their reputation by releasing numerous slanted click bait articles with inflammatory headlines before the entire interview, and usually the full interview never even gets seen due to it.

It's actually a stupid decision to buy XB1 in my regions:
- there's simply no one to play with
- official support barely exists
- pretty much all of console owners is a single player gamers, we rarely use it for multiplayer games even on PS4, WE USE PC FOR THAT
- as unbelievable as it is for americans, there are a lot more PC players here than console owners, the multiplayer scene on PC absolutely, absolutely trumps both PS4 and XB1 combined

What is interesting with the 4K Bluray player in the XB1s is the fact that it has nothing to do with games (name one game that is on a 4K Bluray disk). Still, the 4K Bluray player is a value added feature if you want to watch 4K movies. The problem with owners of the XB1s purchasing DVD, HD or 4K movies is that Microsoft does not get a cent from the transaction.

Since Sony does own a Movie studio any movie of theirs on HD Bluray, 4K Bluray or even DVD means a percentage of the purchase goes to them as does a percentage of the cost of the Bluray disk. Basically, Microsoft gets nothing.

The only way Microsoft gets revenue from the XB1s or XB1 for that matter is if the owner purchases a service such as XBox Live or a game on physical media or digital download.

So like it or not the inclusion of a 4K Bluray player in the XB1s and possibly the Scorpio actually benefits Sony more than it does Microsoft.

Actually tastes in games do vary across different regions. http://www.bigfishgames.com... What is interesting is the most popular genres worldwide are "action" games. Surprisingly FPS games are more popular in Europe than in the US but it is close. The Japanese do prefer RPG's than the US and Europe combined.

4K isn't exactly flying off the shelves over here in America. It's really only the fan boys on forums who make a big deal about it. Everyone else is just frustrated over the spec because it's all over the place.

Personally, I'm disillusioned with 4K, because now I need a new receiver because of this HDR BS requiring new hardware. I know games in 4K, on console, aren't going to be "uncompromised" any time this gen....so I couldn't care less about that selling point. If it comes in some games, great, my TV will support it, otherwise, 1080 upscaled still looks great on my TV, and I'm sure native looks better, but I'm content with what I have in my stock PS4 at the moment. Have no plans to get a Scorpio, and UHD is pretty pointless to dive into at the moment.

Just because most PC's run a Microsoft operating system most games that run under that operating system are not necessarily Microsoft games. In fact, a developer or publisher does not pay Microsoft for producing a game that will run on a PC which has a Microsoft's operating system unless Microsoft has a hand in the development or publication of the game.

Contrast the above to getting a game on a console. All games that a developed and published for a console require payment to the console owner, be it Microsoft, Nintendo or Sony.

For your interest, if you browse the Steam web page you will find well over 5,000 SteamOS/Linux games when just over a year ago there were less than a 1,000. Granted that games that run under MS Windows do significantly dominate but the owners of Steam, GoG and Origin are well aware that Microsoft would like to cut them out of the PC market hence the push for SeamOS (Linux based) and the adoption of open API's like Vulcan compared to closed API's like DirectX 12.

Only MS games I ever played on PC were the original Fable and GeOW1 back when they first released way back in the day. That was when they actually cared about PC, before they decided to stop to push 360 sales. Now they're running back to push the Windows Store, and boost software sales.

Oddly enough, since PC's went mostly digital, I really don't play games on PC anymore. Don't know why. had nothing to do with MS really. WOW and SimCity still get played from time to time, but overall, I'm not really a PC player anymore. but I suppose the option is there if the mood strikes me. Personally, I'm not going to go out of my way to seek out MS titles on PC, mostly because I brought an X1 last year for QB, and can just play them there and not deal with MS BS windows store.

I knew of "Remote IT Services" (aka "Da Cloud) over 30 years ago and have even demonstrated it so it is not something new and Microsoft was actually late to the party on this.

If you do have a good internet connection using remote IT services can be useful for certain things but that is assuming you have a good connection and there are many millions of people that don't have a really good internet connection.

Blowing something up if that is your thing can actually be achieved with randomized procedurally generated algorithms which don't really need input from the cloud although it can help. Generating new maps from the cloud or additional quests is IMHO much more useful and you don't actually need a high-speed internet for that.

Of course there is a reason to buy the console hardware. A great many people lack a PC capable of matching the hardware, much less have such a PC plugged into their TV. The Xbox consoles represent a relatively cheap and uncomplicated way to access Windows gaming. It will remain relevant for about as long as consoles remain relevant.

I actually have 2 gaming PCs and I won't need to buy a Scorpio thanks to the way Microsoft are handling their exclusives now, but I'd be pretty deluded to think that everyone else is the same as me.

also it is super easy to make a pc (microATX) and place it under your tv and hook it up to it just like a console.

I don't see Scorpio outselling PlayStation Pro for the same reason I don't see Xbox One outselling PlayStation 4 at the end of the day Gamers buy game system to play games and if they do not change their software setup and start creating more new intellectual properties and fully supporting them they're going to continue to get these lackluster sales.

I want to see Coalition and 343 both creating new intellectual properties.

I don't want to see gears or Halo replaced I simply want to see them with two new franchises that are at least getting the same treatment as Halo and gears

If Sony could go from Killzone being a big-budget to Horizon being a big budget from Jak and Daxter to Uncharted from Sly Cooper 2 Infamous I'm pretty damn positive Microsoft and have both those teams create something new and just released those games during alternate years.

I mean this is the same company that also chose to not purchase BioWare despite publishing Mass Effect they didn't even own the intellectual property to a game they were funding and Publishing that was going to be an entire Trilogy this is something that is just extremely questionable about their willingness to support something new they cannot continuously be one foot in and one foot out or sooner or later you're going to hear about the next big game coming from a developer that used to work with Microsoft.

Microsoft definitely have the funding they just clearly do not have the ambition to invest in something new.

I came in expecting a decent case for Scorpio. Instead, I read an article with astounding errors (seriously, did they really write "to wrong that right [...]" instead of "to right that wrong?" ) and a very shallow argument.

First, Microsoft will, at best, "win" the holiday season because it's new hardware. But sales are dictated by two things particularly: price and software. There is already a fairly cheap console on the market that supports VR. Scorpio has a very superficial advantage. It offers nothing you can't really get now. People are not going to buy a Scorpio over a Pro in the long run just for power. It's very likely going to be more expensive and, if the software isn't winning consumers over now when we've had some pretty decent Xbox games, is not going to. Then you've got Oculus which, if you recall, is more expensive than PSVR. Price alone will likely hurt Scorpio and it'll be an outright waste if they take too steep of a loss just for install base. That's money better spent on expanding their library. Then you have the software library which is just insane on PS4 in the first quarter alone. Then you have the sleeping hit, Switch, which will have a bloody Zelda game. ZELDA. And we have no idea what else Nintendo or Don't could be planning to counter Scorpio in terms of software.

The worst part? If Microsoft can't communicate Clearly that Scorpio is iterative hardware rather than next generation, people will assume it's their new console. And, for a new console with no exclusives except for VR, the console could, in principle, be dead on arrival. I sincerely doubt it, but yeah, the article needs more substance.

Why you guys doesn't understand why? Game Console cannot sell well without exclusive content and games! Microsoft have powerfull hardware with Scorpio yes but Price and exclusive content not on the same platform right now. Every single Xbox game coming to Windows 10 platform right? And Kaby Lake already comes other hand in a week or something new Ryzen CPU coming to PC market.

New GPU's already on the way. Today PC guy's can get 500-600$ PC and can play all PC games + Xbox games with High Qualty. So on that point Microsoft Scorpio cannot give any Advantage over the PC with tecnology and exclusive content.
Otherhand Sony will cut Playstation 4 and Pro Price before Xbox Scorpio release. Scorpio outselling the Pro is unlikely....Sony has far too many quality exclusives coming that will push Pro's out the door. Scorpio, depending on it's price, may sell well, but where are the games?? It does you absolutely no good to have the tech advantage while the competition has all the games people want to play.

I've never been a big fan of MS, but it was really hard to not be enticed by the 360 early last gen. MS were hitting all the right chords on the game front, both with exclusives and 3rd party support and exclusives.

I think MS knows the formula works, they just aren't using it. They have some games in there they could put more focus on in the marketing side and try to push the console more, but they need to not just have all these one hit wonders. It takes consistency to keep people interested, and MS style means that people recognize patterns and then stop trusting whatever good faith they've built with the release of a good game.

For instance, where is a followup type game for SSoD? Where are other games like QB? What about other indies like Ori? In the 360 days, where were all the JRPG's after LO and BD? So on and so forth. MS has a habit of doing one game that is a break from their normal staples, and when they don't take off big, they move on. They don't spend enough time really building franchises anymore, and barely did it last gen beyond the big 4....one of which they abandoned this gen.

In my opinion the PS4 Pro has a better chance of outselling the Xbox Scorpio. First Sony has really strong lineup of games for 2017. At the moment it looks to be a stronger lineup than what Microsoft currently has. Of course that could change after E3. Second I don't believe that Xbox Scorpio will priced as high as people believe but then again Microsoft has said it will be a premium product so I'm guessing it will be around $499 and if they can price around the mid to low $400's then I believe Sony will not be that stupid and will probably cut down the price of PS4/PS4 Pro to have a more attractive price to consumers, they could even bundle a top 2017 game with the consoles to compete. Third, the PS4 Pro has a full year advantage of sales so that would make it harder to outsell.

As for the Scorpio doing 4K@60HZ that may happen if you have a decent UHD display with HDR (cheaper 4K displays may not have HDR) and low latency for gaming.

If you recall 360 pretty much stopped having games 3 to 4 years before the new gen started while Sony kept pumping out new games for PS3 until the end. Look at Last of US and Beyond Two Souls as examples of games that came out right before the start of the next gen. PS3 still has big new games coming out for it this year in fact.

That's more or less what I will be doing. A PC for PC games and Xbox games plus a PS4 for PlayStation exclusives. Seems like the best option if you want to enjoy almost everything.

Actually the majority of them will just buy a PS5. Once someone is heavily invested in an ecosystem it's difficult to get them to change. Plus the majority of consumers only stick with one brand due to costumer loyalty. Sony did a great job with the PS4 so PS4 owners can comfortably game on that system until the PS5 releases.

Lots of PC gamers eventually switch to console, for the sake of convenience, and because they game, but not like they did when they were young.

Who do you think it is that has the money to buy a nice 4K HDR TV, and a new console, anyway? Yep.. old gamers with jobs. There are 50 million regular PS4s in the wild. If you think a large number of those folks are going to buy a PS4 Pro over a Scorpio, so they can have two almost identical consoles, you are nuts. There are only 25 million Xbox ones. Lots of room to grow there, and yep, you get the best console if you buy a Scorpio, rather than merely upgrade your PS4.

The Xbox One + Scorpio will have a hard time catching PS4 + PS4 Pro -- I'd say its practically impossible. But in the PS4 Pro vs Scorpio race? Scorpio will win, hands down.

Delusional rambling is what I call this. I can get that some fanboys could cook up something like this but reading your short bio and the fact that you write on/for this site should indicate that you can gather information like most.

But I'm gonna humor you a little. First thing first. Saying the XBOS is around a half a system upgrade compared to PS4Pro being a full upgrade compared to the PS4 is a perfect showing of your lack of insight to these machines.

Anyone with some technical interest knows that the PS4Pro is Sony's answer to people with a 4K TV that want higher resolution when playing on a PlayStation. It's not as you say the only true viable 4K gaming experience besides from PC as you write.

Infact most games on the PS4Pro dont even run at native 4K. Most run at 1440p and some at 1800p with dynamic resolution. Meaning the game resolution changes depending on the load. And with the upscaler on the PS4Pro upscalling it from whatever the dynamic resolution might be to a full 4K.

Not to be mistaken for native 4K. But in terms of image quality it can be damn close at times. That said the list of games able to run in native 4K is increasing. But it's not the typical AAA game but more older or less demanding type of games.

The XBOS however is a tiny insignificant upgrade in terms of actual gaming boost. Some games have a tiny fps boost that is in most cases already behind that of the original PS4. The benefit with the XBOS is it's new design and internal PSU along with a 4K optical drive.

Perhaps Microsoft is looking to take advantage of Sony rushing to be the first to offer a full fledged 4K, VR Compatible gaming console.

Both the PS4 and the PS4Pro can already do VR. And the PS4Pro can do native 4K gaming. If you are meaning it will do 4K VR then you need a reality check. But I dont think you meant it like that.

When it comes to the price and performance it's clear that it will be a more powerful machine. We can expect to see more games in native 4K. But also many using the same dynamic resolution and upscaler in form of probably checkerboarding for games wanting to have a steady 60 fps.

Phil Spencer has already said it will be a premium product priced higher then that of a launch Xbox One. Something that makes sense when we hear the amount of compute it will have.

My guess is that when we get closer to the launch of Scorpio the price of PS4 and PS4Pro will be lowered to compete against what will be a much more expensive console. But a more powerful one at that.

Seeing so many moan about not having a 4K TV and no plan to get one my guess is that both PS4Pro and Scorpio will take some time before making much of a significant sale boost for either companies. But this is the first step to cater the 4K owners today and to lure more over faster...

If I was going to upgrade my console I'd be all over the Scorpio. But as far as I'm concerned, this new console generation sucks, and I've already upgraded my computer instead and given the console to my kids. I think I'm about done with consoles - unless, say, the next Elder Scrolls or Fallout game become a console-only thing (which will never happen).

True yrs, viable wrong. The pro handles 4k well enough to call it a truly viable 4k entry. If you haven't seen it then you can't really deny that. It looks great and I like that it's here now, as do Millions of others. I think Scorpio will sell will and I think it'll best the ps4 pro for some time as I couldn't imagine people not paying the new shiny hardware.

That thing is so far away from launching. Sony isnt even worried about it. By the time anybody starts to see the console itself we will be discussing PS5. It might enjoy 1 good holiday season. Then PS5 is coming OK maybe 2. On the 3 year. Which is 4 years from now. PS5 will be arriving. No need for a Scorpio. At least with Pro there is a full 4 years before that happens.
