Digital Versions of The Amazing Spider-Man 1, 2 Removed on Consoles

I'm going to try to look too much into this, but I'm not going to lie, I just got real excited.

Why remove them from XBOX, Wii U since they are not even getting the new game ?

MasterCornholio2668d ago (Edited 2668d ago )

I believe the real question is why remove them from the PlayStation store if Sony is helping them make the new game?

That is odd in my opinion.

@Emman

Oh that makes sense to me.

Nitrowolf22668d ago

Who knows, maybe it's some sort of liscensing issue. Also keep in mind, for an old game Number 2 was still rather expensive for a digital game compared to how many other games have been on sale that were by far higher profile titles.

IamTylerDurden12668d ago

There was actually a lot of fan service in The Amazing Spider-man 2. I enjoyed the numerous villains and the web swinging mechanic was great. If you were a huge Spidey fan it could be enjoyable, especially with all the suits. However, Insomniac appears to be making a vastly superior game to what Beenox and Activision produced.

AuToFiRE2668d ago

Spiderman is produced by Sony

rainslacker2668d ago (Edited 2668d ago )

Likely a distribution license expired. At some point, some IP's are no longer allowed to be distributed by whoever holds the license.

It's interesting though, because it means Activision no longer holds the Spider-man game license. There would be no other reason for them to remove the games just for the sake of whatever new game may be coming out.

This happens sometimes. It's not even uncommon. People who brought the game should still be able to download them.

I better be able to redownload my digital version in the future if I decide to delete it.

Christopher2668d ago

This should be possible. They only remove its ability to be purchased, not from your library.

Overload2668d ago

If I'm still playing P.T. you should be fine. Lol.

Seraphim2668d ago

P.T is an exception. That was free, a demo, and completely removed from the store and to download for those who have but deleted it. I have it on my old hard drive but I can not re-download it to my current drive. That is a rare exception.

Summons752668d ago

Once things are off the store then you can't redownload them. The lovely perks of not actually owning the game you paid for.

lodossrage2668d ago

@Summons75

That's not true.

If you purchased something or downloaded it before it was taken off the store, you can still download it from your downloads list in both Playstation and Xbox.

I know that for a fact because I redownloaded Scott Pilgrim vs the world and Swords & Soldiers WELL after both games were taken off digital storefronts. on PSN and XBL

FreeSpeech692668d ago

Wrong, I can redownload all my Xbox 360 games that was removed. They could remove the ability to do it but they don't and it sounds like a conspiracy theory at this point because of PT a free demo of a game that Konami wanted to erase of out existence for specific (but stupid) reasons.

PhoenixUp2668d ago

This better not happen to Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

Majin-vegeta2668d ago

Well most likely all Spider games made by Crappy vision will be.

The footage shown at e3 was incredible.

Licensing issues for sure.

Spider-Man 2 (2004) and Ultimate Spider-Man use to be my favorite until Insomniac games took over.

Inverno154d ago

I'd still choose Ultimate above all other games, followed by Shattered Dimensions

Abnor_Mal154d ago (Edited 154d ago )

My favorite and still champion Spiderman PS2, followed by Marvels Spiderman2, then Miles Morales, followed by Marvels Spiderman, and finally Ultimate Spiderman.

I need to drag out my PS3 and try Web of Shadows, owned the game for years and years and never played.

Shout out to cultured vultures for NOT making this 40 separate pages.

Spider-Man (2000), Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro, and Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions were all so good! I have fond memories playing them.

2600 Spider-man was the first I ever played. So many memories of that and Superman game. I didn't play another SM game until the Sega CD Spider-man vs the Kingpin

Yui_Suzumiya663d ago

I guess 6 people don't believe you, lol

ClayRules2012664d ago

Spider-Man 2018 (Insomniac’s game) is the absolute worst…I’m kidding, I’m kidding. The absolute BEST Spider-Man games to date!

1. Spider-Man: Miles Morales “ “Insomniac”
2. Marvels Spider-Man 2018 “Insomniac”
3. Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions.
4 Spider-Man 2.
5 Spider-Man (I forget the name) but I played it when I was about 10 or so, back in school. I thought it was the coolest game (which was a side scroller) and believe it or not, I felt like I was playing Spider-Man lol. If only I knew what the future would hold for technology, the talent of artists in these studios in the future, my eyes and brain would melt outta my head haha.

Seraphim664d ago

Ultimate Spiderman is definitely #3 on my list and a gem of the PS2/XB/GC era imo.

I can see an argument to flip 1 and 2 but I think the improvements Insomniac made to Miles Morales does technically put it a step above the original. Because it was Miles it was something refreshingly different too.

ClayRules2012664d ago

Nice! I’m glad you enjoyed Ultimate Spider-Man. I forgot about that one. That was a good one!

Yeah, I can see that argument to clip 1 and 2 as well but the improvements added in Miles Morales for me definitely put it above the original, which is why I put it as my #1. I absolutely love both tho!

ZeekQuattro664d ago

The first one I played was on the Game Gear called Spider-man vs the Kingpin. Definitely one of the worst Spider-Man games but I loved it as a kid. My favorite Spider-Man games include Spider-Man PS1/64, Maximum Carnage, Web Of Shadows, Shattered Dimensions, ASM 1 and the two Sony recent Sony exclusive ones. Edge of Time and ASM 2 get honorable mentions because though I did enjoy them both felt like step back from the previous titles.

gunnerforlife664d ago

Still hold amazing memories of spiderman 2! What a game!

SavageFlamingo664d ago

They absolutely nailed the physics in that game. No game has ever come close.

Silly gameAr664d ago (Edited 664d ago )

Spider-Man The Movie, the game will probably be my favorite SP game ever, with the nostalgia goggles on. I doubt it would hold up at all today. Shattered Dimensions was great too.

5 underrated Superhero games you may have missed

Lewis writes: "With Square Enix presenting gameplay of the new Avengers game at E3 2019 and with the release of Sony’s Spider-man on PS4 last year it is fair to say we may be heading into a new golden age of Superhero games on consoles. While watching the videos that were released of the new title, I began thinking about Superhero games that I had enjoyed over the last 10 years since Arkham Asylum’s release. I remembered there were a number of them that surprised me with how good they actually were and after looking online and speaking to friends discovered they had little fanfare, or people simply wrote them off for being movie tie-ins despite some being reviewed well.
I wanted to speak to you all about just a handful of these titles so that they may get some of the recognition they deserve, but also so you can enjoy some hidden gems of the genre."
