Capcom Justifies Resident Evil 7’s First Person View, Offers ‘Highest Level of Immersion’

Resident Evil 7 will be the very first game in the series to use a first person point of view, eschewing the various spins on third person cameras and movement that Capcom have traditionally gone for with the survival horror series. And speaking to GamingBolt in an interview, Series Producer Masachika Kawata explained that the reason for doing this was to enhance immersion and not to make the game difficult.

I'm pretty sure The Kitchen demo is available on PSN store as a standard download. No PSVR required. Definitely give it a try in any case.

I think MAD's saying that Resident Evil was a story about zombies, bioweapons and duplicitous Umbrella operatives - as opposed to hillbillies... Capcom haven't made a good game in years - let alone a good Resident Evil - and every time they get close, they ruin it with microtransactions, dlc endings, online nonsense and content that won't be ready until months after the 'base' game's release.

It isn't unreasonable to assume that this game will be just as mediocre as it's predecessors.

@poppinslops but he didn't say anything about micro transactions and DLC. With that I agree. The perspective though will make it more scary, maybe that is the problem? It may be too scary? Third person games aren't as scary as things are happening to an on screen character instead of you.

I believe Capcom did FIrst person mode/view to accommodate PSVR, and at a later point Oculus and HTC Vive, however, I tried the demo on Xbox One and I walked quite, pleased. Hope that the complete game is a success.

Well orginal DOOM gave me jump scares with the lighting and Demons coming thru opening walls and doors. Also RE4 gave me a lot of scares . I think that horror can be achieved in both 3rd and 1st person video games.

The direction they're headed is great. I really hope this game turns out. I'm buying Day 1, yet again. I say that because with the last two RE games I told myself I'd never buy Day1 again. This game has changed my mind. I'm shocked, and really hope it delivers.

Well the crap tank controls of the first made it difficult but not for the right reason. Fighting bad controls shouldn't be a game mechanic for difficulty, game enemies should.

I'll probably get alot of dislikes for this, but I honestly couldn't stand the old format.. Why the f could you not shoot your gun and walk at the same time? It was so frustrating.
