We all knew that Cindy would cause some controversy in "Final Fantasy XV" on one level or another (I find that to be rather sad though, as there shouldn´t have to be like that). Even so, Vice´s“’Final Fantasy XV’ Has Some Big Problems” post tops everything that I´ve (Justin Easler, TGG) read about FFXV so far in terms of "controversy"...And Vice is all wrong, and this is the reason why.
Ever play a game a game only to discover at some point it transforms into a horror game? No? Well Netto's Game Room shares six games that do just that!
Not necessarily a ‘horror’ moment, but I remember feeling really tense and anxious when the Flood were first introduced in the original Halo. I never felt more on edge or nervous in that whole game as that moment. I think it was the whole buildup that something terrible was coming but you didn’t know exactly what.
Another non-horror game that had me feeling it was Subnautica. The deep dark depths, and knowing that sea monsters were lurking nearby, had me jumping at every sound.
I remember being scared of the Asylum level in the most recent Thief game from 2014.
The Outerhaven says: $80 video games, Grand Theft Auto VI delay, Polygon and Giant Bomb gutted, and the lack of crossplay in Elden Ring Nightreign in Spectator Mode Podcast Ep. 186.
Former Santa Monica Studio writer Alanah Pearce has shared some insight on the game industry, and it's not great.
AAA has gone downhill as they focus on huge profits. Indie and other smaller games however have been amazing not chasing trends and the next big thing.
Nail on the head. AAA has lost the magic and focused on profits and "player engagement". Gaming is an art form, and like always the CEO fat cats roll in to capitalize at the cost of innovation, passion, wild experimentation. We need a major realignment in the industry and it starts with gamers voting with their wallets.
She didn't even call out Stanfield's PNG file planets when she flew through one. She just 'yelled' something stupid like 'flat earth'. She wasn't even taken aback in the slightest. I am not sure she isn't a part of the problem.
Greed , lack of innovation and agendas
Why do we rave about a good indie game but we avoid a AAA game.
I like boobs. Cindy is Perfect. Not sure why boobs are controversial.
I'm tired of this topic. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Developers should have the freedom to design their characters however they like.
The 'journalist' is a fan of Game of Thrones so I assume he has no problem with the nudity and violence in the story, but can't handle seeing a fully clothed digital character?
That´s just beyond stupid...Then again, it´s Vice...
Okay, look, having sexy characters is fine and all... but we also need to stop pretending that the devs did not intentionally sexualize said characters. Looking at that character, it's kind of obvious that she was meant to be sexualized.
The extreme example of this was MGSV's Quiet. You can give me all the reasons you want about her backstory, but you'd have to be really naive to think that the devs didn't intentionally sexualize her. Heck, Kojima himself basically confirmed this. He wanted her to be sexy. In MSG5, imo they completely overdid it - the outfit wasn't aesthetically pleasing to begin with, and it feels like they couldn't make up their mind about how they want to portray Quiet. You can't have some seriously emotional story while constantly having her in explicit poses to show you her butt.
So when someone then says "Character is over sexualized - it feels out of place", you don't need to agree with that statement in that case, but it sure is VALID criticism. It's basically saying, "this doesn't fit in, it throws out any sense of believability..." that kind of thing. If you want total immersion from a game world, you shouldn't notice sexuality being out of place, it shouldn't break the 4th wall too much. So why is it surprising that while some people like it, others are saying "This shouldn't be here" ? I don't mind a bit of sexy outside the 4th wall, but I totally get that some others just don't care for it, and their criticism is valid. What they are saying makes total sense from their point of view.
Also, I haven't played FF15, but some have made the counter argument that one of Nox's buddies is dressed in a similar manner, with his entire chest showing. That's a good point
