Report: Dark Souls 3 Running on Switch, From Software Considering Trilogy ReRelease

According to industry insider Laura Kate Dale:

"From Software has Dark Souls 3 running on the Nintendo Switch with a level of performance they are happy with. They have not committed to releasing it yet, but discussions internally at the company have discussed the financial viability of re releasing the main three Dark Souls titles on the Switch with their DLC bundled in."

I think this is the first rumor I see (from an already proven and reliable industry insider) about a game running on Switch that's not available on previous generation platforms. If this is true, it could be indicative of the Switch actually being in the same ballpark as Xbox One / PS4 after all.

Bandai Namco does have a great relationship with Nintendo, and a trilogy of all three games would certainly be worth the cash. Also, it'd mean the souls games were playable on the go. Maybe Nintendo would let them throw in some Nintendo content too.

Also, go play Donkey Kong Country Returns and Tropical Freeze. Those games are tougher than 99% of the stuff out there. I had as much trouble beating those games (or more) than I had beating Bloodborne. Lol.

Mario 3D World can get pretty brutal as well, especially on its last few worlds.

Donkey Kong* with only 1 heart and no checkpoints was one of the hardest things I've done.
Championship Road or the bonus worlds in general in 3D World are also difficult cause of how much precision and timing you need. Took me numerous attempts.

Oh and I beat MUSHA on Genesis and o many more. Souls games are actually kind of easy compared to a lot of stuff out there.Can you say the same?

3rd party publishers really need to give Nintendo one last chance and by that I mean games coming out on switch the same time and ps4 and Xbox one. They can't re release a old trilogy and expect greats sales because by now anyone who wanted to play dark souls did already

But Nintendo fans need to start buying others games not just exclusives, I put a lot of blame on Nintendo fans because they simply refuse to support 3rd party titles for many reasons

To be fair, as little as Nintendo gamers supported third parties on Nintendo's home consoles, third party lovers supported them even less on those same-said Nintendo consoles, despite being used to buying consoles solely for multiplats.
Nintendo gamers have also been shafted by third party devs far more, so the return of sentiment isn't hard to understand.

That said, I do agree that Nintendo gamers need to support more third party games on Nintendo systems, but by the same token, third parties need to put the right games on them, too.
I doubt a Mario/Rabbids crossover is going to pull many core gamers to the Switch, compared to a full-blown Mario RPG sequel made by Square-Enix.

Releasing games is very expensive and you're asking them to really risk one of their development teams on helping on a platform that has no install base.

I'm sorry but third-party teams have great logical financial reasons for not supporting a brand new platform when existing platforms already exist with the larger install bases, it's just the way it is.

At the same time you can also simply just blame fans why should those fans go out to buy dated games? What if lots of those fans already own a platform like the Playstation or Xbox to play those?

You can't force anyone to like or buy anything.

Even when titles were brand new and even exclusive like ZombiU it still wasn't moving huge units.

In that respect I don't really know what the solution is for third parties with something like switch other than bringing titles over that they feel they could make a respectable return and not bring over specific IP that they feel they can't make a return on especially their larger more expensive properties.

This might be a situation where it really might be too late for Nintendo to get in on this Market where the majority that purchased third-party games are already purchasing them on Playstation , Xbox or PC it's seriously might be too late for them to even have a platform that even

If that happens with the Switch I expect that we will see lots of Japanese support like we see from the 3DS and lots of support clearly from Nintendo but if it's not able to at least meet 3DS sales I think it could be a possibility that Nintendo will entertain the idea of Simply becoming a software company because I don't know if it's enough for them to struggle every generation simply to sell to a very limited installed base if you look at titles like ZombiU it may not be as simple as third-party putting the right games because the installed base may not either be large enough or just doesn't have the demographic that's even looking to purchase third party games. Nintendo might have permanently fractured their own install base by continuously creating Hardware that drove away third-party developers because their own install base might have dwindled to Consumers go into other devices to get their third party needs met which actually means those that would have purchased this on Nintendo might already be Xbox or Playstation or PC gamers now. You have to consider it's a strong possibility that that demographic has moved on years ago as to why the Wii U performed the way it did

They went out of their way to take risks on the PS3 despite the architecture being just as difficult, if not more, to deal with. They SHOULD be doing the same here, now that there are reliable sources praising its ease of development in ways that many of them never did towards the Wii U.

You can't continue to put all the blame for third parties not selling well squarely on Nintendo's shoulders. Third parties have the responsibility to wipe their own ass, just like Nintendo does.
Quit trying to justify every bad port third parties ever leaned on with Nintendo as if it were some sort of smart business move.

If third parties want to make money off of the Switch, they need to show the right kind of effort, and take at least some risks, just like any new dev does with the launch of a new console.

The PlayStation 3 sold 85 million units in the crew still skip that platform simply because it would cost more money because of the difficult architecture.

Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition Remastered and Demon's Souls Remastered is what the guys that are fans of the series want most. We'll take Bloodborne 2 as well since we're at it.

Don't get me wrong, it would sell a ton of new Nintendo's. But we all know the only exclusive deals From Software has is with Playstation. They need to release the games on all platforms for them to sell decent.

What does FROM SOFTWARE mean by expected level of performance..that bothers me because all Souls games have dips below 30fps on consoles like the PS4 and Xbox one actually DS3 on Xbox One is almost always running in the 28fps many times diping below, than we have the frame pacing issues that the Souls series and Bloodborn are known for and never were addressed by FROM SOFTWARE..i can only sustect that FROM SOFTWARE has low quality standards when the matter is framerate and smooth play,so most likely the Switch is running at 20-25fps and they think is suitable to play like that.Or maybe Nvidia development library tools are better than what expected and we will have the smoothest and better versions of Dark Souls games...well i go for the first opinion and im already expecting a terrible port because unfortunately third partys developers always try to cash in on Nintendo Systems with old game ports that are very badly optimized for the systems..and then blame the system for the bad sales sadly!

How do they intend to fit a 50gb game on a cartridge the size of a cheese it? Isnt the ns cartridges rumored to be 32 gb?

If fromsoft was to do this wouldnt it cost them extra man hours to back scale the game with lesser assets orr give the fullgame massing many cartridges. Lets be clear, if the rumor true about the base model being 250$ this wont be the ps4 xb1 version. It will most likely be at 720p with frame drops and technical issues ds1 and ds2 had on the ps360. Who in here actually believes a handheld the size of a med phone will play ds3 like the xb1 ps4... How?? Glue the power of 2.5 wiius smashed together and that still wouldnt come half as close to what the ps4 is pushing.... Annnd even the ps4 has screen tearing, frame drops, and anti aliasing issues with dark souls 3. Would it be nice to have a handheld that played the same as xb1 and ps4? Bringing the game over to the switch doesn't actually mean they're bringing one hundred percent the exact build in the exact size and everything over because they're creating it for another platform it actually means the size will be different the texture, assets, may be different as well.

When a game is transferred from one platform to the other the team that's doing the transfer job could resize many of those assets the way they feel like it so I'm pretty positive they could downsize and downgrade enough to get it to work properly.

Ok so if the rumors are half true about the power of the ns being near 1 tflop of computational power and 4 gb of ram (3 gb of ram for games) thats roughly less than half the power of a ps4. 1) Cartridges come in a number of sizes, they could easily fit all 3 games on one cartridge, or on 3 seperate ones.

2) Why would they need to scale back assets? Cartridges store more data and load faster then disks.
You don't know how powerful this thing is, hardware rumors place it between an xbox one and ps4. According to this article it can handle Dark Souls 3, it can handle Skyrim remaster if the unveil video is to be believed and it can handle Zelda Botw.

3) No i don't believe that at all, the most exciting thing the majority of us are looking forward to is the ability to take AAA games portable, that includes our favorite 3rd party games.

Again the appeal of the switch is portability, a lot of people have certain games they can enjoy replaying or sand box style games to dick around in, such as the souls games, skyrim, gta, the witcher, fallout etc. A lot of people will rebuy these games for the switch for the portability.
