Nice.

This game is definitely a GOTY Contender.

bouzebbal3068d ago

FFXV and TLG both releasing same year almost same month and both potential GOTY contenders.
If TLG haunts me the way Ico did then it will be my best game of this year.
Bring it on.

DarkOcelet3068d ago

TLG looks beautiful. I am so glad we will get those two games in the same year, only a week apart :)

_-EDMIX-_3068d ago

@Dark- agreed , one week apart.

We should consider this week from here on out PlayStation 3 Redemption week lol

I was 18 when I was first nerding out over both of these games!

Bansai3068d ago (Edited 3068d ago )

It's really not, fetch quests and weak plot are major downsides of this game, no way this deserves GOTY award.

Oh, and from the review:

"It is one of the best open world game on the current generation consoles"

You have got to be kidding. It's not even close.

UCForce3068d ago

And you want force people not to play this game, don't you ? It's people opinion and choice. At least, the game delivered fan expectations.

_-EDMIX-_3068d ago

That's like.... your opinion man.

The best open world game this generation thus far is something that's subjective if they feel that about Final Fantasy 15 then so be it.

I'm sorry but your only defense can't possibly be "you got to be kidding me" or "no way this deserves".

That's nice you could copy and paste that about any game ever created that's up for game of the year but to my understanding game of the year is a subjective thing it is not an objective thing.

Metal Gear Solid 5 , Fallout 4 , bloodborne all Got Game of the Year awards from many outlets

The Witcher 3 got the most...

It is not something that will never be unanimous or absolute or anything like that somebody besides what they feel their best game was that year and that's it..

Sorry but with a couple 9 and 10s some of these Outlets will likely hand Final Fantasy 15 game of the year but that's their decision and their choice.

I think the majority of game of the years will be a mixture of Final Fantasy 15 , Uncharted 4 and even possibly Watch Dogs 2 or Titanfall 2.

Bansai3068d ago

well of course it's my opinion, lol, didn't know I needed to emphasize that. As for wanting people not play that, either way is fine really, it's just not goty contender.

Dark_Knightmare23068d ago

Have you played it and if so your opinion isn't the be all end all so yeah in this reviewers opinion it is and he's not wrong

feraldrgn3068d ago

Hyperbole usually makes me a bit more cautious about a review.
The environments in the Judgement demo didn't look like "best open world" material imo.

Bansai3068d ago

Dark_Knightmare2

Again with the implications that my opinion is something that needs to be listened to... you people really are too serious about this stuff, smh.

Phunkydiabetic13068d ago

Don't forget that cringe inducing dialogue. Ugh it's so bad.

Hozi3068d ago

then don't play it, why even bother commenting if you dislike the game. So far I see nothing but great Review Scores....remember just because you gave it a low score don't mean I will.

titans99993068d ago

I TOTALLY agree with you, it is a damn shame that the true beauty of final fantasy games is lost forever...this game is going to be pathetic....all I can say is...thank god we have the elder scrolls!!!!!

Yes my friend and Kingdom Hearts will be next

PaleMoonDeath3068d ago (Edited 3068d ago )

Soon.. lower expectations people, enjoy it for what it is.

Edit: Other reviews seem to attack it via the hype, do what I did for Star Wars The Force Awakens, go in open, expect the worst, anything you get will be incredible there after, 20 hours alone spent in the Duscae demo.. I am going to tear this game apart <3

Irishguy953068d ago (Edited 3068d ago )

Probably it will be a GOTY contender, depending on who you ask. It seems some people are enjoying it that much and others not as much. But..for example some people were complaining about no warp outside of combat..but the day 1 patch added that in.

"The transition to a different director has resulted in the original vision being compromised in some way, and in this regard, it feels a lot like Final Fantasy XII which had a rather abrupt ending after a really strong opening. Final Fantasy XV is actually the opposite of it, while it has an average opening that doesn’t really take time to explain the world or its characters, it ends on a high note and I won’t lie, it has one of my favorite Final Fantasy ending in the series."

From the article. I'm already invested in the story. I've also heard people who dislike the ending.

But on the high note, I haven't heard one person who's played the game particularly dislike the combat and gameplay. Some have been saying, make sure to do the side content as you'll be missing the best parts etc. But eh, guess we will see.

kevnb3068d ago

Goty contender is so subjective it's meaningless.

Kenshin_BATT0USAI3068d ago (Edited 3068d ago )

It's funny that people are HOPING this game is bad. I don't see the benefit in hoping for bad games, that's just stupid.

@Foxtrot

Straight have seen people saying they hope its garbage so the the next game can 'return to it's roots' Sure some say lower your expectations, I certainly have and have always had low expectations for everything but I don't hope for shit games.

@Irish

Tried Judgement disk already, I'm pretty in the middle since I didn't understand half of it.

-Foxtrot3068d ago

Urm...no

People are just being more careful and are saying something like "look lower your expectations incase because reviews of FF13 told a different story to what we actually got". No one wants the game to be bad, they just want gamers to be careful.

Irishguy953068d ago

Ah its not that, it is what happened after FFXIII. For example, I know theres alot ofo fans of FFXIII, but sales show a different story, when FFXIII release...it had the brand name. Reviewers praised it. It got the sales of a great FF. However it sequels show a different story altogether. FFXIII damaged the brand name. FFXV is more of a it seems good..but beware.

I simply recommend, try the judgement disk demo. Go out at night. Judge yourself.

joethetimelord3068d ago

Not necessarily, Foxtrot. I know of at least two users here who have openly admitted that they want this game to fail.

Hoffmann3068d ago

I hope the game will be a big success so we will see many other rpg's from SE.

I also hope for a new Vagrant Story since over 15 years though.

DarkOcelet3068d ago

Vagrant Story and Parasite Eve Remake would be the $hit!

Square are sitting on a goldmine. Hopefully they use them well.

bouzebbal3068d ago

Especially PE, it has so much potential for being an amazing action RPG with a badass Aya Brea.
Would appeal to lots of gamers.

Platformgamer3068d ago

Also they have the rights for gex... I want gex 4

Articuno763068d ago

It's odd we aren't seeing a flurry of reviews all at once. Are some sites breaking embargo? Or reviewing copies received by alternate means?

Hoffmann3068d ago (Edited 3068d ago )

I guess the early reviews are from people that did not beat the game completely. Some smaller sites also try to be the first to have reviews for big titles so they get more clicks as if they publish reviews after the more known names published them

Sharingan_no_Kakashi3068d ago (Edited 3068d ago )

Yea I was expecting about a hundred reviews as soon as midnight hit.

Either way the game is averaging about an 8/10. Can't wait for my copy to come in the mail.

Malphite3068d ago

The review embargo lifts in 2 hours.

kevnb3068d ago

The reviews so far seem pretty rushed, one of them seems to be trolling.

Hoffmann3068d ago (Edited 3068d ago )

Yeah...and the rushed one has 910° here already and will most likely be on the frontpage for the whole day while other reviews in the next days that took more work won't get even half of the attention.

The system is broken here.

Kenshin_BATT0USAI3068d ago

Yes and no? Embargo is in 40 minutes (10am est) from what I understand, everyone releasing reviews early probably didn't get review copies

ameliabaz3068d ago (Edited 3068d ago )

Hmm. I'm a bit worried about how many people are saying the start of the game is really boring (having the car break down and doing fetch-quests for Cidney doesn't sound particularly interesting) and that the story takes a back-seat to the open-world side quests. I'm also a bit worried that he said major characters are killed off-screen with no explanation. That...doesn't sound promising.

kraenk123068d ago

It's just what the judgement disc demo was and more....Seemed pretty fine to me.

moegooner883068d ago (Edited 3068d ago )

I presume he is referring to the Kingsglaive deaths ? I could be wrong though. All the fetch quests are optional btw, all of them. You can progress the story as soon as you like. I also spent lots of hours doing fetch quests then got a bit bored and proceeded to the main quests. The rewards are very enticing though if I may say.

Irishguy953068d ago

Its probably in the pre release content they are speaking of. I hope it isn't the villains, I already know the main villain is being called one of the best in a long time though, up there with the greats.

Pozzle3068d ago

Oh man, that excites the hell out of me. If there's one thing I've been missing from recent FF games, it's awesome villains! :D

Irishguy953068d ago

Yeah likewise Pozzle, on another note Noctis himself is a highlight of the game, particular his character development. As well, I guess the trailers show even the change he will go through.

Kurisu3068d ago

I wasn't bored at all when I played the Judgment demo. It's nice being able to explore right off the bat. Sure, you can just do the main story if you want, but like moegooner said above, the rewards are enticing. Not only do these quests provide you with more opportunity to gain valuable experience, you also get rewarded with AP as well to spend developing your characters. And because the AP pool is spread between all 4 party members this will be important to unlock abilities earlier.

Not only that but when you speak to quest givers they mark locations on the map, like where to find special ingredients for Ignis to cook, magic draw points, items, camp sites etc.

I can't wait to play the full game tomorrow. Was praying that it would be sent to me a day earlier, but no such luck!

always liked 15, but the development was shch a shitshow. it could have been so much more.

but Tabata did a good job with what he had regardless

DivineHand125120d ago

Ff15 was a missed opportunity from square as they transitioned from turn based to real time.

One of the issues is that it was 30 fps. The combat mechanics required precision dodges to activate Noctis teleport ability and it was difficult to do at 30 fps. I am glad they rectified that in FF16. The story and flow also felt like it went through a chopshop similar to how some live service games end up when they are trying to meet a deadline. Those extra episodes they sold as dlc should have been in the maingame.

FF15 is one of the weaker entries in the series.

Z501119d ago

Dodges don't activate the teleport ability. Teleport was R1 + O. Dodge was just the O button. Explain the Black Hood (the item that automatically Dodges for you)

TheNamelessOne120d ago

Ah yes; FF XV.
The beginning of me coming to the realization the series was no longer for me.

Michiel1989119d ago

16 was a lot better, I think 15 was just a big mess with how development went and all. The music though, one of the best in the series, probably the only reason I finished the game.

Cacabunga119d ago

At least FF15 had RPG elements . 16 was just an action game from beginning to end.

Michiel1989119d ago

I rather have a good action game than a bad rpg with 2 button combat

Cacabunga119d ago (Edited 119d ago )

Then call it something else then FF. I got scammed with FF16. Nothing of what i expected it to be.
Even the action is bad in it, especially after the demo section where absolutely nothing happens until the very end.

FF15 isnt a great game but it has some variety at least.

CrimsonWing69120d ago

That initial trailer with the Leviathan fight was the game I wish we got. The actual retail release was watchdogged to all Hell and while there’s enjoyment to be had in the game, it’s such an incomplete product and so many elements feel so slapped together without any cohesion.

Like, don’t get me wrong, I loved fishing, cooking, and the first third of the game, but I much rather they made a story that didn’t feel barely there and the the last third of the game didn’t feel so rushed and unfinished.

Becuzisaid119d ago

Every time a party member left for a period of time screamed future paid dlc. It was horrible.

Imagine Dagger and Steiner making the party go to sleep in Lindblum in FF9 disc 1 and then taking off to Alexandria by foot themselves, but then never playing their side of the adventure in disc 2 when they smuggle her through the South Gate in pickles, take the cable car and fight the Waltz, head to Treno and start the quest to find Supersoft. They just eventually reunite with the main party in the future without explanation of what went on in their adventure.

Or Sephiroth's backstory in the famous Kalm flashback being added as a dlc pack. Same goes for Vincent, Cid, or Yuffie for that matter.

Oh and anything to do with Jenova, the Ancients, Aerith, her mom and Gast, shoved into a 2 hour CG movie or 5 hour anime ministries that's considered required viewing for anything in the main game to make sense or have characters actually be interesting.

I enjoyed FF15 at the time, and finished it, but it's bright spots are marred by a bad development cycle and a worse marketing scheme.

CrimsonWing69119d ago

What’s sad is when I watched a vid on the entire story (that wasn’t properly told in the actual game)!it was really solid and could’ve been one of the most epic stories in any FF. I think a lot of the compilation and cross-media stuff really f*cked it all up.

gurp120d ago

FFXV was underrated in my opinion
I have played all of the final fantasy games, and I loved this game
turn based to me takes too long, I like active battle
the extra dlc and chapters should have been included in the original release, but it is nice that they fixed the game later

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion372d ago (Edited 372d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled372d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?

Final Fantasy XV Review – A Royal Road Trip

Gary Green said: With my fondness for (most) Final Fantasy games and my side goal of finishing off games in my collection with loose ends, a return to Final Fantasy XV seemed inevitable. It also serves as my third Final Fantasy platinum trophy after VII and VIII, a reasonable substitute since Final Fantasy IX is nigh on impossible to master.
