Hope it's true. Would love Assassin's Creed in Ancient Egypt

Well the leaks about Egypt also stated AC would be skipping 2016.....

This has been sorta confirmed to be true simply based on Ubisoft's own actions. I put this at a 99%

Thing is, having the game setting in Egypt or China or Mongolia, or the moon is arbitrary.
What makes these games resonate louder than simply being an assassin is the historical background.
Conflict breeds good stories. Unity and Syndicate (the most recent entries) had an impressive setting. I believe there was fatigue setting in and the series failed with audiences. Yes, I think this was more of an issue than horrible bugs and glitches.
For the games to be engaging, we need high context, a place where all your nefarious deeds make sense.
Black Flag takes place in an excellent point in history, but it was more than that. You were also a pirate. You DID all the things Pirate did, and during the Enzio saga, you had a strong story and incredible character arc. The Renaissance is also an excellent time to play in with all the new discoveries and the new exciting ways culture was being influenced by the times, thinkers and philosophers.

In theory, all the AC' should do well, but I know fatigue plays a big part in bad sells. Take away the setting, and what you have is gameplay that's changed very little over the course of ten years. This formula might have worked for FPS' (but its quickly declining) but it's proven challenging for anything else.
I think that is why I enjoyed the 2.5 AC platformers so much.
You get right down to basics, right down to business.

The bigger games need spectacle, presence, and a fantastic setting.

Its time for AC 2.0. I've overall enjoyed the games, but the same issues that existed in the first game are in AC Syndicate (specifically movement). I think its ok to do a reset of the games story. Start over and tell a whole different story, or do a ME and tell a story that takes place 500 years in the future. Make it grand and have a meaning full progression through the story. I'm not even sure what the hell is going on in the "real world" of the game anymore.

AC is in a good place, sales are down huge, and they have nothing to lose by taking the game to the next level.

I know a lot of people won't care about this, or say they didn't even notice, but little things started standing out like them recycling the sprint animation, using the same exact (or very, very close) run in Watch Dogs, Unity, Syndicate, and Jack the Ripper DLC. That was insane to me. It's gameplay too. They ditched—in my opinion—the #1 sell of AC, the chaining combat and started using hack-and-slash combat and hackneyed health bars for enemies. Slicing away at guys that aren't dodging or blocking, but still not dying because they still have half life left. Did it increase difficulty in doing this? Yes. But if you're looking for a hard game, go the F elsewhere. That's not what AC was. Their chaining combat was great. Even the graphics of stabs and blood animations started looking really cheap and bad like they just didn't care and kept using the same stuff from old gen AC games. They really needed this break to figure their shit out because it certainly wasn't just fatigue.

Guess AC is heading home or somewhere in that direction .

Man I miss Prince of Persia still one of my. Favourite franchises they need to bring it back

XXanderXX2809d ago (Edited 2809d ago )

They ever explain why the game took a hiatus or say anything to that matter . (How does any person of sound body & mind disagree with a simple question being asked ) wow

prince of persia is more middle-eastern (some indian)
Ancient Egyptian culture is way different...

Ahh..gonna sit this one out then. Desert environments are always my least favorite in video games.
Just sand, sand, and...sand. I think it's part of some PTSD from having to do the Agrabah world over and over and over in every single Kingdom Hearts game.

I think Cyberpunk is close in gameplay. Sure it's a futuristic setting but I find alot of similarities with the two games.
