The Best Horror Games You Probably Haven’t Played

While they’re not all winners, the industry hasn’t seen this many new entries into the genre since the golden age of survival horror. But for every prominently placed Alien Isolation or Until Dawn, there are a number of titles from horror game’s rich past that you probably haven’t played. And though you can — and should — enjoy scary games all year, October is the perfect time to dive into something horrifyingly new. (With the lights off, obviously.)

Anyone remember Koudelka? I remember beating it but I can't remember if it was any good.

I own it not only because I love the voice acting from the scenes a friend showed me but it was weird seeing SNK publish a horror RPG. From what I played of it is great.

I played and liked haunting ground

mastershredder2738d ago

Deadly Premonition? Ummm.... Yeah it's fits the horror game genre. Even though as Lynchian as it is, putting it up there on the Best pedestal is quite laughable.

Why are PC indie horror games ignored

Haunting ground is amazing

I grew up in a country where we didnt have the majority of consoles you guys had in the rest of the world. My consoles were a Sega 16, and a Microgenius (which I think was a knock off Nintendo NES), I traveled to UK once as a child and bought a Sega Mortal Kombat game, but it was a Sega Genesis (or whatever it was called), and the damn game wouldnt fit into my console. I resorted to cutting the edges of the cartridge to get it to fit in my desperation (imagine that)! Lol

Needless to say it wouldn't run it.

Limitedtimestruggle149d ago

Damn lol! Our first home console was the Sega Master System! Played the controllers to shambles, the console is still live and kicking though!

I have some of these games but I have played them. Still worth a good amount though and they’re in great condition.

I’ve got Shattered Memories. Can’t remember if I beat it or not.

It’s sooooo janky but the story is so good and the agent is so quirky I loved it thouroughly, the story is that good that you can actually make it through all of its jankiness and issues .
It’s a diamond in the rough and rough is saying lighly.
This game deserves a remake out of any game I can think of .
If they fixed the combat ,driving and movement this would be one of my favorite games all time and it already is in a way.

The first time I turned on my flashlight was one of the funniest things I have ever seen in a game. His suit just sort of lights up. There's no physical flashlight in his hand--hilarious. It's also the only game I've played to truly capture the delightfull quirkiness of Twin Peaks. I'm with you on how much I like this game. Despite all of its flaws, it's a genuinely fun experience. "My coffee warned me about it," is probably my favorite line of all time in any video game.

I still haven't played the sequel, but I will some day.

I enjoyed this back during ps3 days. I'd buy it again if they re released it fixed up a little. I had fun with it.

ok I believe that Deadly Premonition 2 scene described in the article, takes the cake! Although one could argue that there are so many memorable ridiculous moments in this game.

Wish the F.E.A.R. franchise would get resurrected.
