G4TV writes: "Firefly Studios co-founder and lead game designer Simon Bradbury gives the latest news on their upcoming action RPG, Dungeon Hero.
Unlike many dungeon-based titles, where the player's perspective is based on the protagonist, this title focuses "from the perspective of the inhabitants" which are the goblins. As the "hero", players will explore a dark and gritty dungeon, occupied by an underground society of goblins and other mythical creatures lurking beneath the shadows."
MyGaming's Tarryn van der Byl writes: "Although gamers assume that gaming journalists spend most of our time sitting around playing free games in our undies and cashing big cheques from publishers for favourable reviews, the biggest part of the job is actually writing about games that haven’t even come out yet. Or, in some cases, never turn up at all, despite all that time and effort we’ve put into telling everybody about them."
Hmmm...not sure why the poster of this article used the challenger explosion as the image header. I mean I get why but thinks it's kinda sucky...:/
The list missed out The Grinder as well. That looked like an awesome game. the Wii's answer to Left4Dead. There were gameplay videos and everything, I couldn't wait to play it and now years later nothing has come of it.
Now, here comes Firefly Studio's Dungeon Hero. This is NOT a game where your budding Hero goes down into a dungeon in order to garner fame and haul some wealth back to some village or town. This is a setting where your character strives to become the Hero of the dungeon's _residents_. That is, to save and serve the Goblins that built the dungeon in the first place. (What? You think all that stone got carved out on it's own?) Like every other flipped-over fantasy RPG, the dungeon dwellers are provided substantially more depth than you would ever see in a regular fantasy RPG.
IGN first saw Dungeon Hero back in March of this year and since then FirstFly Studio has been diligently working on adding detail to their dark creation. For the uninitiated, this game is a bit of an ironic take on the classic dungeon crawler that tries to put the old game concept of killing goblins for loot into the context of a cohesive story. The Hero is a mentally unstable brute who works on behalf of an underground goblin town where the little guys that are usually used for fodder are given personality and meaning.
I am eagerly anticipating this game. Yes I may be the only ones (besides the guys that keep posting the article on it) but I am. I like the concept and the trailers were cool. I hope it lives up to my expectations (which really are not THAT high..just want a fun dungeon crawler...is that so much to ask?).
