Halo 5 Forge & Forza Horizon 3 are the first games encrypted with Microsoft's new secure appx format

Last month, it was revealed that Windows 10 would get a more secure encrypted appx format. And it appears that the first games protected by this new encryption tech are already available on Windows Store as both Halo 5: Forge and Forza Horizon 3 use it.

So NO Mods with Microsoft own new format? Interesting.

They are focusing on the safety of their own platform, just like the PS4 is banning Fallout 4 Mods until the developer makes sure that it wont be affecting the consoles software and/or hardware.

Safety first people.

mochachino3188d ago

So what's it like working for Microsoft?

andresegr3188d ago

Ive been called several things in all my life, but being a Microsoft fanboy is a first!

:-D

LastCenturyRob3188d ago

Mochachino...you realize there was sarcasm with his response, right?

mochachino3188d ago

I don't think you're a MS fanboy at all. Just sounded like a PR response.

meche3343188d ago

Yeah especially with the cross-play. You dont want modders cheating just because they are on pc and your on console

andresegr3188d ago

Exactly.

Case in point, Tekken 7.

THE Developer is against Cross Play of PC with Consoles because the PC Gamers are known to be cheaters!!!

Their words, not mine.

UltraNova3188d ago

Tell me about it...to this day i still come accross PC cheaters on Rocket league and now with the Rumble update it seems some have unlimited use of these features. Try playing against someone who has unlimited spikes or tandem rope...

Princess_Pilfer3187d ago

You could, you know, not let modded games run online. But sure, lets encrypt the game and lock it down so nobody can do anything to it.

Utalkin2me3188d ago

This will last about a month....

TheColbertinator3188d ago

Modding is an important aspect of extending a game's lifespan in the PC world. Microsoft being one of the strongest supporters of DRM and Win10 exclusive lockdown doesn't surprise me however.

They can do as they see fit but I'm not fond of this move.

meche3343187d ago

They don't want mods on the console

Goldby3187d ago

but.. but.. skyrim and fallout

meche3343187d ago

not those simple mods. Im talking mods that will break the game and allow others to cheat @goldby

XXanderXX3188d ago (Edited 3188d ago )

Can't blame them for wanting to protect their investments & properties

Errorist763188d ago

Just another reason why GFWL2 won't work out in the end.

The director of the original Silent Hill: “I look forward to seeing bold interpretations.”

Keiichiro Toyama—the creator and original director of the 1999 Silent Hill—shared his personal thoughts on the recently announced remake by Konami, reflecting on what the project means to him after more than two decades:
“I felt something similar when the game was adapted into a movie. It deeply moved me to see the names of the characters and locations I had created come to life visually, even though I wasn’t directly involved. That wouldn’t have been possible without the continued support of the fans and the dedication of the developers who’ve kept the series alive.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how the remake evolves this time. With the advanced technology we now have, I’m sure I’ll be surprised by how the game is reimagined. Since the original was built for the first PlayStation, there will naturally be challenges—like the camera and controls—but I’m eager to see bold and creative solutions to those elements.”

Haha Not only is bold and creatively not what the industry wants, it’s not what most people want.

They want to get scammed and pay twice for a thing they already own.

Nightcrawler8918m ago

Hope they use his vision in the game

Was the SH2 remake even bold? Or was it more or less just a 1 to 1 over the shoulder remake?
