Ubisoft offers The Crew for free, available for download right now

In order to celebrate its 30th anniversary, Ubisoft is offering PC gamers seven digital games (from June to December) free of charge. Last month, the French company offered the Rayman Origins and today the big publisher made The Crew available to everyone.

Already got The Crew for free on my XB1. Thanks M$ & Ubisoft. The game isn't that bad. I really expected it to be worse after all the backlash it got. It's not perfect, but still fun to play. For free, it's a no brainer.

DeadlyOreo2779d ago

He's talking about the title being a bit misleading. What are you going on about?

XanderZane2779d ago

@DeadlyOreo
It's says PC in the first paragraph of the article. Can't be that blind. I'm saying it wasn't just FREE for the PC. Duh...

Corpser2779d ago

It was only "free" with xbl gold, this on PC is actually free

madmonkey012780d ago

The Crew could work as aF2P title

nevin12779d ago (Edited 2779d ago )

Yea, but why not consoles?

DillyDilly2779d ago

I believe they did a console free offer like this a while ago they need new free games

TXIDarkAvenger2779d ago

Xbox got in for free like a month ago. I don't know about Playstation.

The Crew was free on Xbox Live for Games with Gold in June. Rayman was free in March 2015.

XanderZane2779d ago (Edited 2779d ago )

Was already FREE on XB1 back in June. You must have missed it, I presume.
https://majornelson.com/201...

There were some free options for the PS4, but most were illegal.

INMATEofARKHAM2779d ago (Edited 2779d ago )

Because they are as firmly established on consoles as MS/Sony will allow them to be... and, simply put, on a large subset of PC users if it's not on Steam they don't remember it exists so Ubisoft losses a fair amount of money to Valve/Steam on each sale because people buy it on Steam and not uplay.

Tldr: They are promoting their pc store/platform uplay and nothing more. (Aka it's not a love PC hate console players mentality.)

Played a couple of hours yesterday and I'm enjoying it. I think some people were a bit too harsh on this game because it is definitely not as crap as some make it out to be.

TheUndertaker852779d ago

Not by far. The Wild Run DLC adds quite a bit to the title as well.

XanderZane2779d ago (Edited 2779d ago )

I believe the free XB1 version include the Wild Ride DLC. I'll have to double check that.

@TheUndertaker85
Ok Thanks. That's probably what I saw then was the sale. Yes, the game is decent.

TheUndertaker852779d ago

@XanderZane: Sadly it didn't. Wild Run was on sale the week The Crew came out free.

Still a pretty great title even at its base. I'm at the level cap and have finished the story. There's definitely a lot to do.

C-H-E-F2779d ago

Patches loads and loads of patches @TXIDarkAvenger

However, even at release the game was good IMO, but now it's like 5x better than it was at launch.

XanderZane2779d ago

It has been patched to death over the past year. Lots of bugs and issues have been fixed. It is definitely a much better game now.

Wait. I don't get it. I reported on something that I recently noticed. I did mention in my article that I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't gone to play The Division 2. That said, if this was nearly a week ago, I wouldn't know, as NO ONE REPORTED ON IT! Not IGN. Not Gamespot. Not Kotaku. No one.

You got people here complaining that there are any real gaming journalists and game journalism sucks, but when someone is acting, doing something to make something known to the public about what a company is doing. What do you do? You poke fun at it. What is it that people want? Do you want to complain for the sake of it? Or do you actually want people to do something to make those who aren't in the know aware of the shady stuff that's happening and to sound the alarm?

ravens5214d ago

It's the "oh well" setting in on digital users. They don't care they don't own their stuff for some odd reason. 🤷🏽.

FullmetalRoyale13d ago

Good for you! People sometimes just feel the need to show how little they actually have to say. Very respectful dressing down, btw, which is another thing we need more of.

I appreciate your article,
- "If this isn’t considered both a “WTF” moment and setting a dangerous precedent, I don’t know what else it would be"
- "it could also signal other publishers that removing games from our accounts would be okay"
- "Maybe those firmly against this digital future have a point after all"
- "This. Is. Fucked. Up."

As someone against an only-digital/streaming future for entertainment content (movies/TV shows/games/books), it feels like talking into a void about the points above on this website, or on Twitter, or with my friends, etc. People don't get it. I'm strongly contemplating whether this will be my last generation of PlayStation & Xbox consoles (I'm confident enough that Nintendo's next system will still support physical media and that their 1st-party games won't have online-required installation or usage restrictions).

He is one of the long running trolls of this site, he never says anything positive. Every single one of his posts are either incorrect or flat out stupid. Pay him no mind.

Thank you @shadowhaxor, we appreciate you.

Yet people will sit here and still say that digital is better 🙃

TheSenorCheese13d ago

Welcome to the era where you no longer own your games.

gvrd001913d ago (Edited 13d ago )

I'm so done with Ubisoft, removing games one paid for is a new low...
Bye Ubisoft,
You've done f#c*ed it up !

Chocoburger13d ago

This was me 9 years ago, when I realized all they wanted to make were filler boring games that are packed with micro-trash-actions.

Snooze! Moving on from Ubi-junk!

vTuro2413d ago

I see they're trying their best to surpass Activision Blizzard for being the most hated gaming company. Keep at it, Ubisoft, I believe!
